John's family says goodbye, Nikki calls Hope, looking for Victor, and Dru and Sharon support one another.
It's morning, at Phyllis and Nick's. They're getting ready for work, discussing John, and their baby's ultrasound, which is today.
At the ranch, Sharon is taking a walk outdoors, flashing back to her time when she was held in the container. Dru interrupts her, and inquires as to what's going on. She doesn't understand how Sharon can look stressed after a vacation! Sharon feigns concern for Noah, but Sharon covers, telling Dru that she's concerned about her. She advises Dru to give Neil space, asking her to stay there for a few days.
Nick interrupts, as Dru leaves to get a bag from home. He tries to help her but Sharon pushes him away, telling him that it's too hard for her, with him living there.
In John's room, Gloria sits by John's bedside, while Jack and Ashley stand by the bed, with morose and tearful faces. Gloria tells John that he has made her feel special and loved. Through tears, she tells him she loves him enough to not give up on him but she'll let him go if it's what's best for him.
In the waiting room, Gloria comes in to tell everyone what's happening. She is comforted by Michael and Lauren. She tells them that everyone is on their way to say goodbye, because they're going through with the DNR.
Jack and Ashley speak with John, telling him that the whole clan will be together soon. Jack tells his dad, ...You held us together with the sheer force of your love.... He wonders who he'll turn to for advice, but Ashley tearfully tells him that he can still get advice from their dad, because he'll always be with them, in their hearts.
Dru sees Neil in his office, and both of them apologize for their part in the fiasco at Gina's. Nick disrupts their talk to ask for some documents, and Dru leaves.
Traci comes to the hospital, greeting Jack, Colleen and Ashley. Shock registers on her face.
Kay starts to break down, around Jill, telling her that they're losing their dearest friend.
Traci visits John at his bedside. She's in shock, telling her dad that he can't be gone. She turns to Ashley and Jack for support, as she cries hysterically.
At the office, Nick and Victoria are in the coffee room discussing Brad. She's bitter and upset that her husband is in love with Sharon and even more so that she is now available, since her brother has Phyllis. She storms out of the office telling a surprised Nick that she's all alone.
Phyllis meets with Jack at the hospital, as she has heard about the DNR. Intellectually, Jack understands that his father is gone, but emotionally he realizes this is all so final.
In the offices, Dru sees Carmen, apologizing once again, but Carmen has grown tired of the apologies and her lack of trust, and leaves to get back to work.
Neil agrees to Dru staying with Sharon for a few days to give them time to sort things out.
Phyllis visits John, thanking him for his kindness. She tells him that he was a great father in law. As she speaks, her voice wavers, and she struggles to maintain control as she says goodbye.
The Doctor comes to tell the family that all the preparations have been made. They're to take John off life support.
The family moves to his room. John is in a weakened state and the Doctor tells everyone that the Hospital Chaplain is standing by. Katherine says touching prayer, asking God to surrender John to him and for John to rest in peace. One by one, the family says their tortured farewell John, leave the room afterwards.
Billy apologizes to John for not being there, but assures him that he loves his father.
A smiling, Kay tells John she will miss him more than he will know.
Lauren thanks John for his friendship; Michael has difficulty getting out the words goodbye.
Colleen and Brad hold hands as they talk to him. Brad thanks John for a fresh start, and starts to cry as he tells him that he loves him and will be grateful to him. Colleen is sobbing as she tells her grand dad she'll miss him.
Tracey can barely talk as she tells him he'll always be a part of her. ...Godspeed..., she whispers as she leaves the room.
Ashley tells her dad, ...Words cannot even express what you've meant to me.... And she kisses her dad goodbye.
Gloria is thankful for the privilege of loving John, and tells him he'll always be with her. Jack, Gloria and Ashley painfully observe the Doctor shutting down John's life support, and John flat lines, passing on quietly.
In her office, Nikki calls Hope, asking where Victor is. Hope tells her that he's too late, he has left and she doesn't know the name of the monastery that Victor is staying at. She agrees that she'll call if Victor calls her. Nikki thanks her, and they hang up.
In the hospital, Victoria tells Brad that she needs the kind of love that John Abbott's family has. She feels betrayed by Brad. She accuses him of being in love Sharon, with the Newman company and name. He looks at her with love, telling her once again that he is committed to their marriage. She doesn't believe him, and isn't sure where their marriage is going from here.
Phyllis and Nick happily watch their baby on the ultrasound machine.
Brad shows up at Sharon's door.
Victoria arrives at Nikki's office, crying.
