Restless Rant
Week of November 9 - 13:

It's been a good week on The Young and the Restless - romance, intrigue, business deals, and a few laughs! The show was a little boring in spots - particularly considering this is November Sweeps - but overall it's a thumbs up. Let's take a look at what happened:

Chance's Stabbing: While the stabbing itself was pretty cheesy, and there was no real feeling conveyed that Chance was actually in grave danger of dying, the scenes surrounding Chance being in the hospital were entertaining. I relished the scenes between various characters such as Katherine/Chloe, Nina/Chloe, Nina/Jill, and Nina/Phillip.

Billy/Mac: Great stuff this week as these two realize what we've known all along - they have little in common and don't 'get' each other. Sad sack Mac is usually a bummer of a character, but I do enjoy the way she stands up to Billy when she sets her mind.

Billy/Chance/Chloe: Are the writers doing a great job of developing this triangle, or what? When Billy walked in and witnessed the heart-warming scene taking place between Chloe, Chance, and Delia in the hospital room, I didn't know what to think! While I was loving the interaction with the trio (and Delia's adorable little hat), my heart instantly broke a bit for Billy, who somewhere deep down surely knows that it should be him in that scenario with Chloe and Delia, but is absolutely lost. While some viewers will have chosen the couple they're rooting for by now, I'll admit to being completely torn, and loving every minute these characters are onscreen!

Phillip:
There were some quality scenes with Phillip this week. Thom Bierdz does such a good job portraying Phillip's struggle to connect, and to fit somewhere within his own family. He's such a unique character. I was moved when he explained to Chloe why he was buying Chance the "Huckleberry Finn" book, adding that he was worried about the inscription, and she told him that being with Chance was more important. The follow-up scene between Phillip and Chance was also good, as they took baby steps toward reconnecting and Chance told him he could sign the book from 'Dad'. Character-driven family stuff makes you feel something inside.

Nick's Office:
The scenes in Nick's office have been sort of dull. I'm all for business and boardroom intrigue, but the scenes between Jack/Nick, and Nick/Adam give you a feeling of 'been there, done that' when you watch them. Not too exciting. Something needs to happen at Newman to capture our attention.

Phyllis: There's nothing like 'intense' Phyllis, and we've been treated to plenty of her this week! Sure, Phyllis has mellowed, but that fire is still there. Mama Bear's claws came out when the woman who very nearly killed her daughter tried to make contact with her this week - not too many mothers would have reacted much differently from Phyllis. And how about her run-in with Deacon? Two hot-tempered redheads in one room - wowza - great scene! But, what I don't like is how miserable Phyllis is with Daniel and Amber. It totally irks me that she doesn't support and respect her own son's decisions, and that she looks down on Amber, since she's always taken issue with those who look down on her. Anyway, Phyllis is stirring stuff up again, which is always good TV!

Soaps.com
Cane/Lily/Neil/Mac: Well, Neil's concerns were summarily dismissed by a very determined Lily this week! I like that they've made her a more assertive character. As far as Mac carrying their baby is concerned, the writing is on the wall - this could very well become a triangle. It should prove interesting to see how it will tie in to the Chance/Chloe/Billy triangle with Billy as the common denominator, actually making it two quadrangles. I wonder how many viewers see a spark with Cane/Mac? Anyone?

Ryder/Daisy: I lumped these two together, because I have a feeling they're connected somehow. What's really great is trying to figure them out right now. Theories abound. I noticed how Daisy went out of her way to publicly confront Ryder this week - which leads me to believe she did that to throw people off of any thought they may be connected - could they be brother/sister, working for their mother to bring Lauren and Michael down? Hmmm. I think Daisy resembles Lauren too, but that could be coincidence. This story seems plot-driven, which isn't great, but right now it's compelling. The big thing is to find out the identity of Ryder's mother - that will add a new element to the story and answer a lot of the questions. I loved how Ryder was more surprised than anyone when Michael told him he confirmed his alibi! Too funny! I enjoyed the run-in between Ryder and Deacon too - lucky us!

Ashley/Adam: Clearly Ashley's not playing with a full deck. She told Jack she couldn't go back to work at Jabot because she needed to focus on her girls, then immediately went and told Nick she would be getting involved at Newman. Not only that, but she seems to be plotting some sort of business takeover involving Adam! Ashley's a mess - not who she used to be at all! Did you get a load of her snapping at Abby's teacher?! Hmm.

Abby Gone Wild: Abby's about as stable as her mother is these days. Poor Faith living with three loons at the Ranch! Although I get a huge kick out of Abby trying to hook up with Ryder, for the most part she's still an annoying spoiled brat when she's on the screen, and grates on the nerves.

Patty/Jack/Emily:
Well, with Patty issuing threats, and starting to remember what happened in the woods - look out Genoa City! Once Pattycakes gets wind of lookalike Emily romancing her man, it's going to be switch and bait time! Here's hoping that rascal Jack finally gets what he deserves for double dipping!

The Wedding: One of the cutest weddings I've seen in a while. I was smiling at Mrs. C. getting quickie-ordained online, and at Jana's gloom and doom face because it was Friday the 13th. I loved the vows, and especially the spooky ending with someone smashing a pair of binoculars in anger - could it have been Deacon? Or Ryder's mysterious mom? Muahahahaha!

Jill/Paul: As usual, the best 'til last - Jill planting that hot kiss on poor, unsuspecting Paul. A real whoop-out-loud moment! Loved it! Could we see a Jill/Paul/Nina triangle? Imagine the two of them battling over a man - poor Paul indeed!

Well, we haven't had the heart-pounding drama such as surrounded Colleen's death, but the darkness has lifted considerably (for the time being) and there has been plenty of balance in the story-telling. I'm especially loving the character-driven stories that make you feel emotion, and the fact that we've been seeing most of the characters on canvas.

Candace,

I agree totally with your assessment. Earlier last week, I posted a thread about how I thought the soap was more balanced and a lot more enjoyable to watch.

Great Rant!

I would definitely not like it if Paul and Nina hooked up - - to me, not a good match.

As far as Phyllis looking down on Amber, I remember other mothers in this soap having a problem with who their son/daughter married, so I would not single her out. JMHO.

Thanks Candace..
Frankly I am tired to see Cane in baby s/l,same s/l now different woman it is just boring that's all. The man just come out of one last year now he is in one again this year.
Candace, still no sparks not feeling it they are trying but nothing. Not sure about Chloe and Chance yet I still need to see more interaction with those two. I think Nina and Paul will hook up. The Danber wedding it was cute I hope all goes well for those two.

The week was tolerable because of less Adam, thank goodness. Some of the S/L's are interesting some are not but as long as yucky Adam is not on the scene, I can keep my lunch down.

The wedding reminded me of my own this past summer. My boyfriend surprised me on our vacation with a proposal one day and a surprise minister showing up at our beach condo the next day. So I have fond memories of my wedding and much love for the Damber ceremony.

I didn't like the fact that Adam was off the canvas so much this week. Glad he'll be back on next week. And don't worry about Nick's office being dull....Adam has just begun to fight! It's going to be good watching Adam take Nick down to his knees. I can't wait!

It was great to see more of Phillip & Nina this week! Tricia Cast deserves an Emmy nod for her scenes with Phillip in the hospital. The scene with Deacon and Phyllis was HOTTTT. I could seem them two being a hot couple. I cant figure out who Ryder's mom is but I hope its a TOTAL SHOCK to us all! Chloe and Chance are cute together!

I absolutely LOVE that Y & R has finally lifted some of the gloom and doom out of it's storyline for now. Daniel and Amber were so delightful this week with the spur of the moment wedding. If only the writers could realize that viewers do not want to watch the dark side of this soap. Please please writers...we love light and get sick and tired of darkness all the time.

Excellent summation of the week, and I also noticed a spark or closeness between Cane and Mac.
I thought I was just imagining things. They look good together but Lily would be devastated and the writers have taken us through a lot with Cane and Lily just to break them up.
We shall see.

Another great rant Candace. I felt s spark between Mac and Cane a long time ago when they hugged at the bar and it was definitely back when he presented her the necklace. Of course it leaves me totally torn b/c of Lily being sick and them just renewing their vows, but isn't that what a soap is about? I am one of the few that likes the Mac character-just because she's different from most. When Jill kissed Paul I died laughing! Loved it! Like Victoria she can also be a good vixen when she wants to be. And go Phyllis!! Get rid of that indecisive dullard Nick and get a real match- Deacon! Loved her interaction regarding Patty too- I feel for both of them so again i'm torn, good writing makes you do that. Also with the scene you mentioned with Delis, Chloe, and Chance. I really felt for Billy - just like I did last week when all the self righteous Genoa Citians were ragging on him for his articles in Restless Style. And where does Jack get off with his holier than thou attitude toward Billy? Sometimes we conveniently forget the past. Well all in all great character drama this week, very enjoyable.

Caught Friday's episode. Philly is overreacting to her son's marriage! According to your rant, Philly should "hookup" with Deacon. It sounds like they deserve each other.
Cane/Lily/Mac: Why can't people leave them alone? Lily ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE. I look for her to live a long life. Mac should leave Billy and Billy should just leave. Chloe and Chance should e together.Adam and Ashley deserve each other, and get together. Why? She has victor's ranch and money, this is what Adam wants.
I DON'T LIKE the STYLE OF STORY LINES!!! But then Y&R is not as good as it used to be.
Candance, good rant, some I agree, some I don't.
