The Young and the Restless: Eric Braeden Contract Status!

Saturday, October 24 2009

Eric Braeden (CBS)
Updated on October 24:

Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Eric and the head honchos at CBS have turned the tables and have come to terms with a new contract - Eric will now be staying with the show! Eric's rep. stated, "Eric has agreed to return to Y&R."

Previously Reported on October 18:

Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) has been unable to reach an agreement with The Young and the Restless, and will be leaving the show. He issued a statement to Entertainment Weekly, as follows:

“We reached an impasse in the negotiations. I have shown flexibility, they have shown none. It is over. I pulled the plug. That’s it. No more. If I show good will, I expect it to be reciprocated. If there is a rigid attitude on the other side, what is there to to negotiate? That’s a sign of utter disrespect. I will not negotiate with people who remain aloof and arrogant about the whole thing. Not after 30 years, I won’t do that. I’m saying this with a great amount of sadness because I’ve had nothing but respect for my fellow cast members, I have deep respect for the crew who has done an extraordinary job year in and year out, and I have enormous respect for (head writer) Maria Bell.”

Updated October 7:

According to Eric's representation, "As of now, Eric Braeden's last airdate on Y&R is November 2. He may or may not return to Y&R."

Original Article September 28:

Soaps.com has spoken with Eric Braeden's (Victor Newman) representative regarding recent online reports that Eric has been written out of The Young and the Restless, that he has already taped his last episode, and that he told other cast members that he may not return.

Eric's rep confirmed to Soaps.com that these reports are entirely true. He added, "Eric is in talks with Y&R and may or may not be back."

Soaps.com is disheartened at the idea of Eric not being a part of The Young and the Restless, and hopes everything works out in negotiations. What is your opinion about this casting development? Will you contact CBS to ask that they keep Eric on as Victor Newman? Let Soaps.com know in the comment section below!

Okay, so he "may or may not come back" - - we went through this with MST, and she returned. Must be money again. Oh well - - it will never be the same again without him. But, I personally will just wait and see.

As far as contacting CBS - - what good will that do. If EB does not want a paycut, then I would contact them and ask them not to do that, but don't think any fanbase could help with this.

That would really change the dynamics of the show. It would be an incredibly sad day if Eric decided to leave the show - he is the Alpha-male of the show. You can't help but love his character "Victor" even when he is pulling the stupidest antics. With the recent changes and the shift to the younger actors...honestly it just isn't as good.

The new actors - Kevin and friends just wouldn't cut it! They aren't as exciting to watch and their story lines are incredibly stupid. You have to keep the Newman/Abbot/Chancellor families the strong part of the show. I do miss Micheal and Lauren...I hope they are back soon too.

I think this STINKS!! The show will never be the same without him, and I personally think that their ratings will tank.

Honestly I could care less, now that the way his charactor has been.I say good bye.For someone I use to love and now hate I really won't miss him at all.

I know the show will go down the drain if Eric leaves the show, he's a wonderful actor and cannot be replaced.

Please give him what he wants and keep him on.

Take off a couple of younger actors like Abbie, Daniel, Noah.

Get better plots, to keep everybody happy.
