Week of September 7 - 11:
Well, there were only three episodes of The Young and the Restless this week, but they were fairly entertaining. I do think that the show is veering into 'overly dark and negative' territory again, as there weren't too many happy faces this week. There are always comic moments and great one-liners, but that's not enough to satisfy the need for balance. When every couple is in conflict, or dealing with someone else's conflict, it's a real drag! So here's an abbreviated rant for this week:
Ashley/Adam: Every scene with these characters is a potential candidate for the fast-forward treatment now. It's gone on too long - even the good acting isn't enough reason to watch. I've seen enough scenes of Ashley holding her head and gnawing her nails to last me a lifetime, and let's not forget Teflon Adam getting away with everything under the sun! Something dramatically different needs to happen with this storyline to propel it forward and win viewers' attention back.
Sharon/Nick/Phyllis: If I have to sit through another scene with Nick/Phyllis, or Nick/Sharon that contains the lines, "We'll get through this together," "It will all work out," or "I'll be there every step of the way, I promise," I'm sure my eyes will roll backward, and my head will start spinning around! Enough already!
Patty Storyline: I still like it, but with reservations. I didn't want to see Patty become 'evil'. Patty being 'unbalanced' was far more entertaining. These darker storylines always seem to go a step further than necessary. I had the same opinion on the Kevin abuse plot. I do love that Patty has Victor and Jack running around like idiots, and I'm definitely excited for the drama coming up. Let's hope it doesn't wind up so 'dark' and awful that we can't truly enjoy it - this has been such a great story!
Gloria/Jeff: A hilarious antidote to the maudlin tale they're involved in. The comic writing has been really good for them, and the actors, of course, are brilliant!
Ryder/Kevin: Many in our poll don't believe that Ryder is actually Kevin's brother. At this point, I do believe they're related, but it appears that the part about Tom abusing Ryder may not be true - could it be that his mother abused him? I wonder if Mommy Dearest will turn out to be someone we've known before? The unraveling of the mysteries surrounding Deacon and Ryder is keeping me pretty interested - although I don't think I'm ready to see Kevin become a victim again - here's hoping he wises up! Loved the scenes where Jana lays into Kevin! So good!

Chance: I got a kick out of him showboating in front of Chloe at the Amber/Deacon nuptials by stepping forward during the vows and offering to nail Deacon for blackmail! Look! It's Super Detective! Naturally, Deacon got out of that one in about five seconds - about the same length of time Chance has been on the police force! Chance is definitely a cutie though - I look forward to seeing more of him, Chloe, and, of course, his mother! Ha!
Katherine/Murphy: So nice to see them featuring in the storylines more often lately. I can't get enough of this duo. Bringing Katherine into the loop of what is going on with Amber was long overdue in my opinion!
I enjoyed this week for the most part - can't complain too much when Deacon Sharpe is on every day, but quite honestly, it might have been better if the edgy drama was balanced out with some love in the afternoon. The writers seem to have become a little preoccupied with their dark/mystery tales again. Next week is going to be dramatic! See you then! Don't forget to leave your comments in the spot below!
