Restless Rant
Week of September 7 - 11:

Well, there were only three episodes of The Young and the Restless this week, but they were fairly entertaining. I do think that the show is veering into 'overly dark and negative' territory again, as there weren't too many happy faces this week. There are always comic moments and great one-liners, but that's not enough to satisfy the need for balance. When every couple is in conflict, or dealing with someone else's conflict, it's a real drag! So here's an abbreviated rant for this week:

Ashley/Adam: Every scene with these characters is a potential candidate for the fast-forward treatment now. It's gone on too long - even the good acting isn't enough reason to watch. I've seen enough scenes of Ashley holding her head and gnawing her nails to last me a lifetime, and let's not forget Teflon Adam getting away with everything under the sun! Something dramatically different needs to happen with this storyline to propel it forward and win viewers' attention back.

Sharon/Nick/Phyllis: If I have to sit through another scene with Nick/Phyllis, or Nick/Sharon that contains the lines, "We'll get through this together," "It will all work out," or "I'll be there every step of the way, I promise," I'm sure my eyes will roll backward, and my head will start spinning around! Enough already!

Patty Storyline: I still like it, but with reservations. I didn't want to see Patty become 'evil'. Patty being 'unbalanced' was far more entertaining. These darker storylines always seem to go a step further than necessary. I had the same opinion on the Kevin abuse plot. I do love that Patty has Victor and Jack running around like idiots, and I'm definitely excited for the drama coming up. Let's hope it doesn't wind up so 'dark' and awful that we can't truly enjoy it - this has been such a great story!

Gloria/Jeff: A hilarious antidote to the maudlin tale they're involved in. The comic writing has been really good for them, and the actors, of course, are brilliant!

Ryder/Kevin: Many in our poll don't believe that Ryder is actually Kevin's brother. At this point, I do believe they're related, but it appears that the part about Tom abusing Ryder may not be true - could it be that his mother abused him? I wonder if Mommy Dearest will turn out to be someone we've known before? The unraveling of the mysteries surrounding Deacon and Ryder is keeping me pretty interested - although I don't think I'm ready to see Kevin become a victim again - here's hoping he wises up! Loved the scenes where Jana lays into Kevin! So good!

Deacon/Amber/Daniel: Adrienne Frantz is doing a great job as Amber in this storyline, and Michael Graziadei is acting his behind off as Daniel! I'm finding myself rooting for this couple in the past few episodes - even though I positively love the chemistry between Amber and Deacon. Luckily, Deacon has fantastic chemistry with Victoria as well - she fairly oozes sex appeal when she's in his company! It will be interesting to see if Deacon calls off the wedding, and whether he wants the painting more than he wants Amber. To all those who predicted there had to be more to the story than Deacon just wanting to get Amber in the sack - looks like you were right! In any case, the twists and turns this story has taken have been good - I've been enjoying it!

Chance: I got a kick out of him showboating in front of Chloe at the Amber/Deacon nuptials by stepping forward during the vows and offering to nail Deacon for blackmail! Look! It's Super Detective! Naturally, Deacon got out of that one in about five seconds - about the same length of time Chance has been on the police force! Chance is definitely a cutie though - I look forward to seeing more of him, Chloe, and, of course, his mother! Ha!

Katherine/Murphy: So nice to see them featuring in the storylines more often lately. I can't get enough of this duo. Bringing Katherine into the loop of what is going on with Amber was long overdue in my opinion!

I enjoyed this week for the most part - can't complain too much when Deacon Sharpe is on every day, but quite honestly, it might have been better if the edgy drama was balanced out with some love in the afternoon. The writers seem to have become a little preoccupied with their dark/mystery tales again. Next week is going to be dramatic! See you then! Don't forget to leave your comments in the spot below!

The show was alot of drama this week; great Rant! i hope they don't kill off the Colleen- they could make her have that post-traumatic stuff and let her leave town, then later on we could see Adrienne Leon!

I heard Y&R was moving to 3pm in some markets when Guiding Light does dark.

I totally agree with all you've said. Why don't any of them work anymore, I enjoyed that about Y&R, the powerplays, the underhandedness, I miss that part of the show. I want to see them all get back at their desks and do some dirty dealing. lol

I also enjoyed this week, short as it was. Adrienne would be great to see back in her role, esp. since the person that got rid of her wasn't good herself. Tamerin is a great actress too, but Adrienne was my fave. Deacon Sharp has always thought of himself and what he wants! I hope Danny boy puts him in his place! Sharon and Nick belong together, thats just a fact! Phyllis belongs with the father of her child, Jack! I hope that story line picks up because I'm tired of waiting! Would love to see much more of Thom Bierdz and Tricia Cast. I am really surprised that the authorities came unannounced and freed Adam. That stinks!

I feel sorry for Nick his Heart is with Sharon (and they go to gather so well ) I hope the writers don't drag this forever, Phyllis needs to go back to her old thrashes ways, Nick is just not that kind of person, Jack is what she needs, there JUST Alike, they seem to enjoy Sex together, thats who she runs to. Adam has gone way-to far, so beneath Victor to have not picked up on this Character, and please writers don't let him take Sharons Baby what is this going to do to her (and writers don't make her flip out, enough already) enjoyed Murphy they are a sweet couple how about a kiss every now and then (smile) Chance just looks out of place playing such a High Ranked Position, where's Detective Gil?

Great rant Candace, huge Lauren and Michael fan so was happy to see them, but Lauren saying "something in ryders eyes made her blood run cold and that she seen that look before had me wondering, really hope the writer have something good coming up for her and Michael. Kevin needs to get his self together many things Michael has done to help him and when Michael finally says no it a problem, whatever thanks to Jana for setting him straight, Also the Patty sL is good but hope not another death, the acting as been great from all the actors especially the vets loved seeing Tracy abbott but yet again too much dark writing!!!!!!

Thanks for the rant! I love MJ so I hope they don't make her too evil. Colleen looks like she is not long for this show. I miss AL in the role so I am not as connected with this Colleen dying. Man, if Sharon and Nick bore my screen as a couple again I don't know what I will do. Dull, dull, dull.
Give me some dynamic fire of Nick and Phyllis. Please really give this couple a chance without Sharon. Ugh.

Great rant this week Candace, lots of good stuff packed in only 3 days!
My favorite part of the whole 3 days is when Jeffrey and Gloria had found out they were booby trapped! Loved the scenes where they touched the money and ink squirted all over them. Great comedy with these two!
I agree with you about the Ashley and Adam storyline. This has to come to and end and quick! They have turned Ashley into a woman I no longer recognize and it is extremely hard to watch her scenes. How much longer is Adam going to keep up his charade?
Nick/Phyllis/Sharon/Nick...blah blah blah
Loved Daniel this week! The way he stopped the wedding was priceless and Amber even had me laughing believe it or not. When she told Deacon that she wanted the wedding music to be the funeral march, I laughed my butt off!! Also Amber showing up all dressed in black was hilarious! Kudos to Adrienne Frantz for a job well done.
I still think something is fishy with the Ryder/Kevin storyline. Maybe they are brothers, but there is definitely more to this than meets the eye. As long as Kevin's childhood abuse and the chipmunk storyline are not involved, then this will be worth watching and getting vested in.
As much as I like Patty, I am finding it hard watching her with Colleen because we know that Colleens days are now numbered and I am not looking forward to seeing another tragedy.
Have a great weekend Candace and thank-you for the awesome rant.
