Each year, for the past 27 years, the Los Angeles Conservancy has presented conscientious recipients with Preservation Awards, which recognize outstanding achievement in the field of historic preservation. Linda Dishman, the Conservancy's executive director, said this year was a particularly competitive one, with a number of excellent projects being considered for acknowledgement. "We applaud the winners, as well as everyone who works so hard, year in and year out, to preserve greater L.A.'s cultural heritage."

"The highest-rated daytime drama on American television has introduced millions of people to preservation in the past year. In a storyline involving a development that threatened historic buildings, The Young and the Restless had key characters fight for preservation as a way to revitalize a community. This one bold stroke conveyed the value of historic resources to an entire nation through popular culture, a vital element in creating a true preservation ethic."

The Conservacy is a non-profit organization. The winners were selected by an independent jury of leading experts in architecture, historic preservation, and community development. The Conservancy Awards will be presented at a luncheon on Thursday, May 8th at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
