ESTHER VALENTINE'S HISTORY
Since 1985, Esther Valentine has been more than just a maid to Katherine Chancellor. Although infuriating to Katherine at times, Esther's friendship and companionship has always meant the most. Esther is best known for her airy humor and nosiness with each new guest that arrives at the Chancellor Estate, forcing Katherine to remind Esther to excuse herself and go fetch the tea!
Of the last twenty-some years, Esther has only strayed from Katherine once after widow Nina Webster Chancellor had decided to leave the mansion with her baby Phillip. Since Esther had taken care of him since birth, she only felt it was right to leave with Nina to continue to care for the boy she had grown to love. At first, Nina befriended Esther and even took her out with the intensions of finding Esther a man of her own! For the first time in her life, Esther had a one-night stand with a plumber named Tiny, but never saw him again. Missing Katherine and realizing that Nina had used her, Esther returned to the mansion to find that Katherine had replaced her with a strange couple named Robert and Shirley.
Suspicious of Kay's new employees, Esther found herself, along with Mrs. C., being held hostage by the couple and woman who was posing as Katherine! Luckily, Katherine's son Brock returned home and rescued Esther and his mother in the knick of time, sending the imposture and her accomplices to prison!
Esther soon found out that her one-night stand had resulted in a pregnancy and later gave birth to baby Kate. Katherine and her husband Rex were happy to have Esther back, along with a new baby to spoil, until one fateful mistake would leave Esther reeling with guilt forever.
Still on the hunt for Mr. Right, Esther answered a personal ad and invited con artist Norman Peterman into the Chancellor home. Although Norman easily gained Esther's trust, Katherine and Rex weren't as easily convinced. After he proposed, Katherine set out to protect Esther by arranging a fake wedding. Thinking he was alone to steal the Chancellor fortune, Norman broke into Kay's safe and was caught in the act by Rex! Unfortunately, Norman shot and killed Rex in the process and was later sent to prison for murder. Although devastated, Katherine forgave Esther and has held a watchful eye over her where men are concerned ever since!
With her daughter having been in boarding school for years, Esther has remained loyal to Katherine during many dramas in her life: finding out that her long lost daughter was her archenemy Jill, dealing with the past, and Esther even became a certified alcohol counselor to help Katherine regain her life after falling off the wagon from the immediate new stress in her life.
Esther encouraged Kay to seek the help of world-renowned psychic Silvia Browne to help uncover the meaning of her reoccurring, disturbing nightmares.
Esther has now found out that she is going to be a grandmother! Her daughter, Kate, who has been away at boarding school for years, turned up in Genoa City and is pregnant!

Thursday, November 20 2008: A Good Day For a Haunting!
Amber and Daniel arrive at the Chancellor home and are greeted by Esther. Danny and Gina come in and Gina begs Daniel to try and get Danny to stay for a few more days, but Danny says he can't. Billy comes through the door next and is warmly greeted by Cane. Just as Mitchell Sherman asks everyone to have a seat, Gloria and Jeffrey blow into the room. Jill looks outraged! Mitchell begins to read the will. She leaves Brock 1% of her estate in trust so that he may continue his good works, and he is also named Chairman of the Chancellor Foundation. Danny and Gina get one half of 1% of her estate in cash as her stepchildren, and she leaves Esther enough money to live the rest of her life in comfort as well as her entire 50% ownership of the Chancellor Estate! Esther nearly faints, and Nikki calls for water. Billy smirks at Jill, "Mom, you may be in the market for a new maid!" Jill takes Mitchell aside and says that Katherine must have been drunk when she made the changes, but Mitchell tells her it's ironclad and Katherine was certainly not impaired! He continues the reading of the will, telling Nikki, that as someone who Kay thought of as a daughter, she has been left Katherine's jewelry and her mother's ring - a family heirloom!
Still in the Chancellor living room, Mitchell details how Billy and Cane will receive one-quarter each of her estate. Amber and Daniel are given enough money to fund their respective ventures, and Amber also gets sole rights to Katherine's memoirs! Jill jumps out of her seat in protest, but Mitchell cuts her off, saying that Jill has been left the remainder of the estate, and all but 5% of her Jabot shares. He then turns to Gloria and tells her she has been left a priceless vase that was a gift from John, as well as the remaining 5% of her Jabot shares - in honor of John's memory! Jill turns to Cane in panic, and Jeff and Gloria beam! As they all rise from their seats, Daniel asks Amber if she's going to publish the memoirs, but she says she wonders if she should bring more upset to the family. Danny comes over and says goodbye. Brock wanders over and says he'd like to know more about the memoirs. They all share a laugh. Across the room, Jeff purrs at Gloria that she's never looked hotter than she does right now. Jill comes over and asks what she did to make Katherine give her the shares. Gloria says that Kay genuinely liked her! Billy takes Jill away, telling her that if he had inherited what she just did, he'd be dancing on the table right now! Jill goes after Amber before she can leave - she informs her that she won't have her capitalizing on Katherine's memoirs and if she tries to print it, she'll fight her every step of the way. Amber tells Daniel she's going to make it her life's mission to print them now! Nikki is next to leave, telling Jill that she hopes she doesn't mind Katherine giving her the jewelry. Jill rudely tells her that her life's such a mess, how could she mind. Esther kindly tells Nikki she can still come to the house to visit her. Jill goes back into the living room and notes to Cane that they're very vulnerable without that stock! It then dawns on Jill that she is no longer answering to Katherine and can do whatever she wants!
Tuesday, November 18 2008: I've Been Expecting You!
Nina sits with Esther at the bar and asks if she's going to retire now. Esther says she can't think past today. Nina says it's not like Jill will throw her stuff out on the lawn, and Esther replies, "Wanna' bet?!" Traci and Lauren catch up nearby, and Lauren shows her a picture of Fen. Traci laughs, saying that this may be the most pleasant conversation they've ever had! Lauren feels bad, taking responsibility for treating her cruelly when they were kids. She says she was like the girls in the movie, "Mean Girls!" They agree that Katherine was an amazing woman, and Lauren says she likes to think that she's a better person now, but she couldn't believe that until she looked Traci in the eye and apologized to her. Traci says Katherine would be proud of her, and they hug. Phyllis is also at the bar when Brad approaches. He smirks and says, "So, Big Daddy's home!" Phyllis listens to what he has to say, and quickly realizes that he's given Victor to the cops! As she looks for Nick to fill him in, she sees him speaking with Sharon, who is recounting the conversation with Lauren. Nick tells her they will have to get together with Michael and Lauren and discuss it again. They hug, and Phyllis's eyes grow wide. Phyllis watches as Sharon moves away from Nick and is approached by Brad, who asks how she's doing. Brad then embraces Sharon as Phyllis shakes her head in disbelief. Nick goes over to Paul and Nikki, and suggests that they get Nikki home.
