In Victor's hospital room, Victoria talks to Nick about whether or not Colleen's been taken off life-support. Victor comes to and says, "Save Colleen." Nick calls Paul to tell him that Victor is awake, and to ask about Nikki. Paul says he's at a retreat in the Rocky Mountains and will keep him posted. Victor asks his children about Colleen, and Victoria tells him she's brain dead.
Ashley goes into Victor's room and sits down. He says, "My beautiful Ashley." She tells him there is no hope for Colleen, and that this time he's gone too far. Ashley asks how he spends the day destroying lives and then comes home and talks to her about their future with their baby girl. Victor says he loves her, but she informs him that he doesn't know the meaning of the word! Victor says he tried to stop Patty, but Ashley shakes her head, saying he didn't - he could have, but he was too worried about what people would say about him. Ashley tells him that before he was shot, she had packed her bags and was leaving him. Victor wants her to stay, but she asks why - isn't it enough that he's taken her niece from her? Should she stay long enough for him to hurt another family member? She says he would even hurt their baby! Ashley informs him that she and Abby are moving out. Victor suddenly has a medical crisis! Ashley calls out for help - he can't breathe!
The doctor arrives in Victor's room and says the heart isn't functioning properly. Nick and Victoria rush in. Nick's phone rings - it's Nikki. Nick tells her that Victor's heart is failing - they could lose him!
I Know You're In There!
Adam goes into Victor's room and relieves a reluctant Nick. Adam sits down and tells the unconscious Victor what he brought for him. He tells him that once he's back on his feet the nightmares will begin again - he hasn't worked all these months to bring him down, for him to miss the big finale! Adam tells Victor he needs to see how right he was about his 'bad seed' son! Adam muses how he almost felt good bringing these things to him today - like he might be proud of him - but they both know that's not going to happen. Adam sheds tears, but quickly recovers and says, "You need to wake up. You have to live." Adam then goes out to the waiting room and tells Ashley she can see Victor now.
Ashley goes into Victor's room, followed closely by Adam. She says there are so many things she wishes she could understand. Victor says, "Nikki." Ashley is stunned.
Prepare For the Worst!
Beside the lake, Patty rants at Jack about taking her innocence, saying she's ready to see him gone forever. Victor interrupts, saying Jack's worth nothing - she'll go to prison over him if she shoots him. He smoothly offers to call in a helicopter to come in and take her wherever she wants to go. She hisses at him to stop giving her orders - that's what he's been doing since he brought her to Genoa City! She turns back to Jack again, and Victor shouts at her to give him the darn gun! Patty shoots Victor - three times!
In the woods, Paul is on the phone with Traci, Steve, and Billy when the shots ring out. He hangs up, and runs with JT to the scene. Patty has run off into the woods, and Jack uses Victor's phone to call for help. Jack tells Paul that he can catch Patty - she's limping! Paul runs off. JT leans over Victor and says he's in shock! He hollers across to Colleen to hang in there!
Victoria and Nick go in to see Victor. She worries that this is their punishment for confronting him. Nick says even then, he knew that they loved him. The doctor comes in and tells them that Victor has bullet fragments in his heart - they'll know more when they open him up. Nick wonders if he's strong enough for that. The doctor says he'll die if they don't!
Abby goes in to see Victor and he manages to tell her he loves her. She leaves with Billy and Victor tells Nick and Victoria that he loves them too. Victor tells Victoria that before Nikki left, she came to tell him that she loved him. He asks Victoria to make sure that Nikki knows he feels the same way she does. Victoria turns to Nick and says they have to find mom!
Eeny Meeny Miney Mo...
Back at the lake, Jack dials Paul, but hangs up when Patty threatens to shoot Colleen. He gives her the phone and tells her to call Paul, but Patty throws the phone in the lake! Jack is livid, telling Patty that Colleen is a good girl. Patty says she was too. Jack begs Patty to let him help Colleen. She says she never got that look from him that he has on his face for Colleen now. She got her heart broken! Patty tells him that this is their second chance - and her aim is better than it used to be! Suddenly, Victor appears, saying, "Patty. Put down that gun."
