At the Ranch, Victor watches as his taped statement begins to air. In it, he says that what happened to him is personal. He announces that Neil Winters is the new CEO of Newman Enterprises. He expresses his confidence in him. He then says that on a personal note - he is taking a public leave of absence. He reminds people that he lost Sabrina and needs to deal with her death. He asks the press to leave him alone, but also asks that friends and family leave him be. "I know you mean well, but I want to be alone." Victor turns it off and then calls in and dismisses his entire staff, including Estella. He sits down on the stairwell and tells Zapato that he only wants to spend time with him - he gives him no trouble at all.
The Oracle of Foothill Road!
At the Ranch, Adam jumps up off Heather in shock! "Dad! You're alive!" Heather is aghast. "Oh my God!" Victor throbs with anger. He heads to his office, where Estella tells him that she tried to keep everything the way he liked it, but Adam wouldn't let her. He asks after Zapato and she says Adam banned him to the kennel. Victor asks her to bring him back in, and to let Michael in when he arrives. Outside the door, Adam hollers at Victor to talk to him. Heather tells Adam she will be heading to the Club. Michael arrives at the door and asks Adam what he wants. Adam tells him that it wasn't him who sent for him. As Estella leads Michael to Victor's office, Adam bellows, "Oh, he'll see his lawyer, but not his own son!" Michael goes in and says he's not too surprised that Victor turned up alive. Victor tells him that, obviously, they'll need to look after a few things. Michael agrees. He then informs Victor that Adam's first order of business at Newman was to fire Victoria and Neil Winters! Michael then tells Victor that Adam has appointed Brad Carlton as CEO of his company. He says from the very beginning of this, Adam has been all about business, while Nick and Victoria coordinated the searches. He says Adam even insists on calling himself Victor Newman now. Victor replies that that will no longer be the case. "Here's what I want you to do..."
Victoria and Nick arrive at the Ranch. They berate Adam for not calling them himself. Heather defends him, but Michael comes out just then. He tells them Victor is not ready to see them just yet. They are puzzled. Suddenly Neil arrives. They all look at each other quizzically as Neil is taken in to see Victor first! Neil greets Victor and tells him how great it is to see him. Victor wants to discuss business. With no preamble, he not only reinstates Neil, but makes him head of the company! Neil thanks him and Victor tells him that in his absence his son messed up royally, but he intends to put everything right! Neil comes out, and Adam is called in next. Adam turns to Heather. "Don't worry about hanging around. This could take awhile." Neil says he's headed to the office and Victoria smiles. Adam goes in and tells Victor he's glad that he's alive. He says he did the best he could under the circumstances - after all, he was overcome with grief! Victor watches him flounder, before saying, "What would give you the idea that I would want you to fire Neil Winters?" Outside the door, Nick and Victoria get impatient, but Michael warns them to wait - Victor is righting the wrongs of the past few weeks! Inside the office, Adam tells Victor he was just trying to be like him! Victor notes that he obviously could not see anything but his wealth and power. "Neil is reinstated, and you, Adam, are fired!" Victor informs him that his character is flawed and he is not only out of Newman, but also out of the house. Adam begins to protest, but Victor tells him it's already done! Adam bursts forth from the office and out of the house. Vikki and Nick go in and Victor turns to look at them. "Dad?"
The Hedge Clipper!
Victor arrives at the Ranch and opens the door. He strolls into the living room and stands silently, watching as Adam and Heather get amorous on the sofa!
Jagged Edges!
On the beach in Mexico, Nikki is helped by Victor off of the sand and into a small room where he deposits her on a bunk. She gazes at him in amazement. "It really is you!" He tells her she shouldn't have come there. There is nothing left to say. He asks how she found him. She tells him about seeing the photo of Walter, and that she knew then that he tracked him down there to get revenge. Victor says the storm wrecked the boat and he survived - that's all. She wants to know what he's running from. "The whole world thinks you're dead." Victor explains that he put his affairs in order at home - there's no reason to ever go back there. Nikki is appalled! She threatens to phone his children and grandchildren and tell them that he is hiding out, feeling sorry for himself and playing dead. Victor hisses at her not to come there and try to make him feel guilty! She takes a different tack, rubbing his arm and saying that she feels terrible for his loss. He pushes her away. She says she feels responsible for his pain and he hates her for it. He replies that he feels nothing for her. "Don't come here and try to make me feel guilty! Get the hell out!" She begs him to listen to her. She says she came to find him because she's loved him almost her whole life. They can be angry at each other but it doesn't change anything. He says he feels nothing but hatred for her right now. Nikki wants to take him home, but he tells her to save her breath - it means nothing to him. He contends that he's not going back to Genoa City, but Nikki says she cannot lie to people - he's alive! Victor yells that all of his dreams died in that car wreck - that she is responsible for! He says his heart is full of jagged edges. "You come close, I promise you, you will bleed!" He rages about how her pride and arrogance are the cause of it all. She cries and admits that she drank when she thought he died. She says she's in pain too, and so are the children. "I love you. They love you!" He tells her that her love for him is a sick love that deserves to die. When she tries to touch him, he tells her not to. "I wish one of us had the guts to kill the other. To put us out of our misery." He leaves the room and she follows. Once again, Nikki runs up the beach screeching, "Victor!" But he keeps walking and doesn't turn back toward her. She collapses in the sand, sobbing.
Read It and Weep!
On the beach in Mexico, Nikki wanders up the coast frantically calling Victor's name until she is so exhausted she literally collapses in the sand. Suddenly she sees a pair of boots beside her. Looking up, she can hardly believe her eyes - it's Victor!
Power Trip!
At the Mexican bar, Victor tips the bartender and thanks him for making the arrangements regarding the boat. The bartender warns him to be careful of the approaching storm. Walter comes through the bar and Victor prepares to go. He follows Walter outside. Walter asks if Victor is the new Captain. Victor grunts that he is, and pretends not to speak English. Walter indicates that he is just looking for a quiet day of fishing. Victor nods.
Kama Sutra!
In the Mexican bar, Victor checks out Walter, aka Tony Amato, and thinks back to J.T. handing him the photograph of the mobster in the hospital and telling him that he is the one responsible for what happened to Sabrina! Victor listens as Walter makes plans to charter a boat. After Walter walks out, Victor questions the bartender. Before he leaves to pursue Walter, Victor shares another conversation with the bartender's young daughter. He winds up giving her the earring that he recovered from the wreckage!
Someone Needs a Brownie!
In Mexico, the bartender asks if Victor found the man he was looking for. Victor shakes his head, and the bartender realizes he doesn't want to confide in him. Just then, the bartender's daughter comes in and asks Victor why he's always there. "Don't you have any family?" Victor deflects, but sits down to play cards with the little girl. Suddenly a man comes in and orders a drink. It's Walter Palin! Victor observes from a distance.
Evicted!
Victor sits at the Mexican bar talking to the rough and tumble bartender. The bartender and Victor make small talk as he downs tequila shooters, but Victor isn't forthcoming about what he is doing there, but he asks for help getting some information. Soon, the bartender tells him, "The man you are looking for is at the hotel down the beach." Victor thanks him and pays, before heading out of the bar.
