At Katherine's funeral, Victor has just caused a sensation by walking in and sitting down next to Ashley. She tells Victor that everyone is staring and he says, "Let them." The organ music begins and Danny asks Nina why she's not sitting with the Chancellors. Nina laughs, saying she'll stick with the people who like her, noting Jill will never forgive her for marrying Philip. Amber whispers to Daniel that his mother asked her to call a truce, and Jack glowers at the back of Victor's head! Brock goes to the front of the church to deliver the eulogy. He tells them they are there to celebrate the life of this most extraordinary woman. His voice breaks, but he continues, saying that she was a loving mother, great friend, she supported charities and would roll up her sleeves and serve food to the poor. He describes other things she did for the community. He calls her a 'classy lady' and an 'angel on Earth', who is now an angel in heaven. Dina asks Traci where Colleen is, but Traci says she wasn't feeling well. Dina complains that she wanted to see her, but Traci informs her mother that she could see her anytime. Jack asks Traci if she knew Victor was coming - she says she had no idea. Brad, whispers from behind Jack, "This ought to be good." Jack grits his teeth. Just then, Liz Foster, the woman who raised Jill, arrives and Jill jumps up to embrace her. Outside the door, Gloria and Jeff come in, with her complaining that they're late, and him cursing the parking!
Brock continues the service by leading the guests in The Lord's Prayer. Victoria and Nick and their families whisper about Victor's return and wonder if he'll be arrested when the funeral ends. Michael and Lauren arrive and take a pew behind Neil, who tells Michael not to fall out of his seat, but Victor's there - sitting next to Ashley Abbott! Jeffrey smirks, saying, "Who says there's no good theater in this town!" As Brock keeps telling about "the Duchess", Lily watches Cane, and Ashley turns in her seat to look at Jack. He gives her an incredulous look!
Jill is next to speak at the funeral. She speaks of their complicated relationship. She says that despite their differences, they loved each other. She says she made a mistake in thinking that she'd always be there, and she would always have a chance to apologize. She says she hopes that she is looking down on her right now and hearing her words. Jill then reads a poem. Brock returns to the front, and as he speaks, everyone in the church thinks private thoughts and prays for different things. Many of them wish for those who have already passed to take care of Katherine, some wish for strength to deal with their personal situations, Traci wishes Ashley luck with Victor, and Jeffrey checks Dina out! Devon and Ana sing Amazing Grace as everyone lines up to place a rose on the casket and say goodbye. Victor files out holding Ashley's hand without acknowledging anyone. Nikki collapses across the casket and is led away by Paul. Michael approaches Nicholas and asks where Victor went. Nick tells him that he's already gone. "He had a car waiting."
Billy approaches Jack and tells him that he got the big speech this morning. Jack says, "Let me guess, Chairman of the Board." Billy confirms it, adding that he feels Jabot should be back with the Abbotts. Sharon tells Nick that Jack is really upset about them seeing one another in Paris. Nick says it's not like they're keeping a secret, but Sharon notes that they weren't exactly transparent either, and all she can think about is Paris. Nick says it was just a kiss, but Sharon shushes him. Phyllis watches wide-eyed, then suddenly turns to talk to Amber. She says having a broken heart really hurts, noting that Amber obviously really loved Katherine. Amber tells her that Katherine was the only one who took her seriously. Phyllis slightly insults Amber, but quickly backtracks, saying it's a bad day for her too. Phyllis tells her that she is her son's girlfriend, and they are kind of stuck with one another. She suggests a truce and they agree on it.
Mitchell Sherman arrives and Jill introduces him to Billy and Cane. Sherman says that he has scheduled a reading of the will, and that Katherine made some recent changes to it! Jill is concerned, but he won't tell her exactly what is different. Jack beckons Ashley to come and sit with him, but she gives him a funny look and goes to sit alone at the front. Dina thinks it's because of her. Just then, Nikki tells Nick she feels that she's going to be sick. As she stands up in the pew and turns toward the door, Victor appears in the doorway! He strides past Nikki and his children and joins Ashley in the front pew! Nikki nearly faints, and Jack scowls.
In Paris, Victor pleads with Ashley, who is preparing to leave soon, to stay with him - he wants them to be together! Ashley says she wants that too, but she can't stay, she has commitments! He tells her that he'll do whatever she likes, but he won't return to Genoa City. They discuss it further, and she suggests that he reconsider going home to clear his name. He says the only thing he needs to know is that she thinks he's innocent. She tells him she is going back to Genoa City and she'd like him to go with her. He says goodbye to his 'sweet Ashley' and walks away.
In Ashley's hotel room, she has just finished packing when Victor turns up at the door. She says, "Please tell me you have decided to come back to Genoa City with me."
In Paris, Ashley and Victor decide to get out of bed and go get croissants. As they walk along and marvel at the beauty of the city, Victor stops and asks Ashley if she'll stay there with him. When they return to the hotel room, Ashley, who has picked up a newspaper along the way, becomes strangely silent. When he asks her what is wrong, she holds up the front page - a headline says that Victor confessed to murder in a diary! Ashley tells Victor that he needs to go home and take care of this, and that the reason she came to find him was to take him back to those who love him in the first place! Victor says he didn't write a journal, and he has no intention of ever setting foot in Genoa City again!
In Paris, Victor pulls back from embracing Ashley and looks in her eyes before kissing her. They head for Ashley's hotel room and once inside, continue their halting, but passionate kisses. Soon, they hit the sheets and make love. Afterward, Ashley tells Victor that she's thinking how surreal life is - two days ago she was in London just living her life! Victor tells her that being with her in this way has made him feel alive again. They discuss how all of the memories, both good and bad, have made them who they are - all steps to bring them to this moment! Ashley tells Victor that when she's in his arms, there is no place she'd rather be! Victor gets up and makes to leave, but Ash asks him, "You're not leaving are you?"
Outside Notre Dame, Ashley spots Victor and runs to him saying, "Thank God you're okay!" She embraces him, but he pulls her away and asks what she is doing there. Ashley explains how she came to be there, and asks if he is at Notre Dame to seek solace. He asks her, "What if I told you I'm as guilty as sin?" She says she knows he's not guilty. He asks how she knows. He says she knows him - and that he wouldn't kill a man. Ashley notes that Nikki thinks he might have killed Walter Palin, but she knows different. Victor mentions that Nikki is responsible for all of this. Ash notes that Nikki said if Victor did kill Walter, he had every reason in the world to do so! He tells Ashley that he has to go - he's dead inside. She counters that if that were true, he wouldn't be feeling so much pain! She begs him to stop walking away from her, and go with her for something to eat. He reluctantly goes along with her. Once they are seated in a cafe, she urges him to take one bite of his food - for her. He does. Victor tells her she can go now. She replies, "You're welcome." He tells her again to leave, and that no one must know that she saw him. She tries to impress upon him how many people love him and care about him. He gets up and leaves the cafe.
