Quote CHATTERBOX22: I have nothing against Lily wanting a child in the future, but to want one so soon after being diagnosed with cancer is selfish. I know that she has cancer and that she wants to experience being a mother, but lets be realistic. Lets just say that she passes away the child will have to deal with the loss of her/his mother, just like Lily did and that is a tragic experience for anyone. The difference in Lily's situation is that Dru dying was an accidental death, where as Lily knows she has cancer and could possibly not survive it especially given her recent hospitalization. Now before the Lane fans kill me hear me out. I personally think that Lily should wait until she is in remission to make that decision. I think that's what Cane was trying to say when he told her the situation was complicated. Lily's response was I know I am young, which to me has nothing to do with it, she is not well right now. Lily is always jumping the gun and I am disappointed to see the writers not letting the character learn from past mistakes or mature.

I agree, and she is weak right now. She can't even go for a walk and make a pot roast for pete's sake. How would she care for a newborn, and soon after a toddler?
What if she did go the route and have Mac have a baby for her and Cane. Then she dies, her baby would never know her. Big deal if someone tells the baby about you, that is not the same as being held by your mom, conforted by your mom. It can't be too comforting to be told, she loved you. Well, she sure did, but someone else would be doing the loving and raising. Probably Mac and Cane. Who would also be loving and holding each other. I think they should wait. Why push yourself over the limit.

Wow! I have so many MIXED feelings about this issue. I know someone who just experience a death of their spouse while planning to adopt a baby. And decided to go ahead and adopt (of course) after that awful untimely death. I too wondered why go through with it since their would no longer be two parents. But to see mom and child together now is unbelievable. Can you believe after the adoption was finalized, she discovered that she was pregnant with their first child. And yes she will only be able to share pictures and stories but how amazing is that. She too is a very unselfish human being. She now has so much to live for and our family is so ready to step in if necessary to raise those children if need be. Oh and did I fail to mention she was diagnosed with cancer. She is doing fine so far and is as happy as can be. Faith and hope heals. I truly hope TPTB allow Lily to pull through this illness if not only to see and hold her and Cane's baby.

You know this story also reminds me of the many brave men who go away to war worried if they will someday see their unborn babies. Life is not promised to any of us. Well, sometimes pictures and stories will just have to do for some. Many children seemingly do just fine knowing their parents loved each other enough to bring them into the world. I'm sure many convicts have two parents.

Holy cow ..really!!! I am an educated woman with a University degree..I think I know that. I think if they put a disease into a storyline why not be as realistic as they can so people can LEARN something. Bringing a child into a situation like cancer is really stupid!1 What is the hurry please! Having been through IVF trust me it takes more than two diseased eggs to conceive..PLUS the chemo, anti biotics and other meds Lily is on would make her a pretty weak, sick mom. Sacrifice the well being of an innocent child to make Lily happy.?? Neil is the only one with any brains in this situation.Remission in stage four OVARIAN cancer.. my mom died from it.. there is No such miracle I am afraid. I have a friend struggling through it right now as well.. the mortality rate is 84 per cent..so let's be a bit reasonable .I think a child down the road sure why not..but doing that now in the storyline is ridiculous..but I guess some people don't mind fantasyland.. as for me.. I would rather see the children , already on the show, have a place.. and I don't want to see anymore of Mac then we do now..ack what a buzz kill she is!!

Quote LilMonkey84: Has anyone even thought about the fact that Cane lied about his identity and Lily really doesn't even know the man that she is potentially having a child with? I'm not saying that he's a bad person (or a good person for that matter) and I can see how much he cares about and loves Lily but maybe she should get to know the REAL Cane before she decides to spread her seed with him. She needs to know the truth before she can move past what happened between them before she got cancer...babies don't save relationships and once she is better (if she gets better...which is another reason why she shouldn't think about having a baby but I see that all of you have covered all the bases on that one) the old feelings of being deceived and lied to will resurface but only then they will have to think about WAY more than their own feelings and it will make things even more complicated...what about the whole "cattle wrangler" story or whatever he was talking about...will Lily's baby be in danger because of them in the future? Only time will tell...

yes I must agree, Lily is not thinking

Quote Stormynights: It doesn't matter if you think Cane and Lily will be great parents or not. It is all about what she (Lily) wants right now and nothing else, so yes she is being selfish. Yes I see where hope can do wonders, but Lily needs to put her hope and desires on something else. Like just plain beating the cancer so she can have that baby or babies someday. One hour before she made this proclamation, she was telling Cane how bad she felt and a couple hours before that none of them even knew if she would make it or not. What's to make any of them think that this or something similar couldn't happen again, with a totally different out come. Relying on a dream she had that she is going to beat the cancer and have a baby is not being responsible about bringing a child into the world. It would be different if she was already pregnant, but she isn't. To have a surrogate be inseminated, when you don't even know if you will live long enough to see if it took let alone thru the first trimester is wrong no matter how you look at it. The way her cancer has been going Mac could be implanted one day and Lily could die the next.
Not only that, but surrogates don't have a history of miscarrage, because they could end up loosing the implanted embryo. Something like a 50% chance they could miscarry again.

yes this is true

I know I must agree, why not get well first, get to really know your husband and his past, give it time. Lily lost her mother to an accident and it affected her, so how does she think her child would feel if the child knew Lily had him/her with the knowledge that she might not survive the cancer. That is pretty selfish. For once Neil is not being over protective he is using common sense.

Right back at you By the Lake if my post is the one your referring to. I'm an educated individual as well with a Master's Degree (not that it matters). My point is you want the writers to stick to the facts as you know them and bottom line that's not going to happen. I will give them credit in a sense of raising the issue and making others like myself aware of some of the facts. The child is not going to be born tomorrow by the way. So by the time they decide to do the IVF and by the time the person has the child Lily will be in remission (seriously it's a soap she's not going to have cancer forever). And if you and others want to raise the question of Lily wanting a child now, I'd like to know why her character had to be the one rendered barren. But that's neither here nor there because tptb have made her so. Now I'd like to see her happy. After all that Lily's been through she deserves some happiness and if planning to have a child makes her happy, and her husband agrees, I'm all for it. I think the sl could be very good.

I think it is perfectly fine Lily wanting another child.

Their is such a great documentary movie out called Dear Talula. It is about a mother with Breast Cancer and showing her daughter exactly what she is going through. Such a beautiful documentary. Women with Cancer have children all the time. Sometimes it brings the mother and child even closer. It makes that bond even more special. People have children in all different kinds of situation.

People die everyday.....you never know when you are going to pass away.Life is not promised.

So Lily could be perfectly healthy and get into a plane crash then what would happen to her child. There are so many what IF's out there. Why shouldn't Lily have a child?

I wanted her to have the child she lost last year. I remember I couldn't wait for her and Cane to get married and have their child. But she lost the baby and it was really heartbreaking. Lily and Cane will be such great parents.

Yes they should be cautious. But Lane have so much love and that child of theirs will be loved so much.

The only thing I am worried about is the Mac issue I swear if the writers do anything funny......

ITA!

There is also the nature vs: nurture arguement. I always believed that as long as a child is born healthy and raised by loving, protective, happy, law abiding parents they will be OK. It's when they're raised by the parents who are always negative, vindictive and bitter their lives don't turn out so well and we all suffer.

Neil doesn't love Devon nor Lily any less. Remember Lily is NOT Neil's child.
