Quote twocentsworth: I disagree with making Lily "wait"...this idea and the possiblity of having her own child (thru Mac or some other surrogate) will give her hope and something to look forward to...I've had Cancer in my family and I know the more positive the victim is, the better they take the Chemotherapy meds and resist the Cancer spreading...some of it is psychological, but it's true...a positive attitude helps "the medicine go down"...this will also have viewers like me feel that perhaps this person, this Cancer victim, Lily, will go into remission and get through this battle (just like her BFF Colleen said in the dream when she visited her the day of her drowning/brain damage)...perhaps Lily will indeed have the baby surrogately, and live long, and many years to raise the child to an adult also...and, if she is not that fortunate, I feel Cane would be a great daddy to any child and the child would be in great, capable hands with Cane...he would also have a piece of Lily live on in the child, male or female, since Lily's own eggs would be used to unite with Cane and only carried by the surrogate...so the child will be a beautiful addition to the Ashby happy home...

This post is excellent brings out so many valid points. This baby will do miracles for both Cane and Lily. It will give Lily hope for the future. Especially now that she has got this idea in her head. I think right now if Cane or Neal said no you shouldn't have this baby it is selfish. I honestly see her going into a depression and who knows how ill she will get. No Lily is not in remission but yet you see she is happy because she has a spark of hope in the fact she may one day hold her baby in her arms. And that spark of hope can go a long way into bringing her into remission. Hope is an amazing thing it can literally do miracles because it allows you to believe the impossible. Healing doesn't always start with medicines we put in the body but with positive thinking in the mind. Also for Cane he is not there yet but this baby is a miracle for him as well. He had lost hope, that is why he broke down. He knows this baby will give Lily the drive to beat the cancer so this little miracle will give him what he feared he would lose. A healthy wife and the family he has always desired.

I don't think that Neil and Cane are being selfish, they are both older and are looking at the whole picture, not just what Lily wants. Neil and Cane both want Lily to recover and get stronger, her eggs are no going anywhere neither is Cane. Yes I would love to see them have a family, but I still say it's to soon, not to mention Mac being the surrogate mother, which has bad news written all over it. First of all Cane and Billy cannot stand each other, and Mac already missed carried her own child. So they should look for someone else.

No Chatter I didn't say they were being selfish, I was using your phrase that Lily was being selfish. I can see Neal saying that to Lily, and dashing her hopes. And what's so sad is that I really don't think Lily has a selfish bone in her body. She was apologizing to Cane for not making him dinner and she was fighting for her life. The girl is always thinking of everyone else. I know she is thinking of this baby and she knows he/she will be loved abundantly. How can any baby of Cane's not be loved and especially if that baby is Lily's to.

Quote CHATTERBOX22: I have nothing against Lily wanting a child in the future, but to want one so soon after being diagnosed with cancer is selfish. I know that she has cancer and that she wants to experience being a mother, but lets be realistic. Lets just say that she passes away the child will have to deal with the loss of her/his mother, just like Lily did and that is a tragic experience for anyone. The difference in Lily's situation is that Dru dying was an accidental death, where as Lily knows she has cancer and could possibly not survive it especially given her recent hospitalization. Now before the Lane fans kill me hear me out. I personally think that Lily should wait until she is in remission to make that decision. I think that's what Cane was trying to say when he told her the situation was complicated. Lily's response was I know I am young, which to me has nothing to do with it, she is not well right now. Lily is always jumping the gun and I am disappointed to see the writers not letting the character learn from past mistakes or mature.

I agree, and she is weak right now. She can't even go for a walk and make a pot roast for pete's sake. How would she care for a newborn, and soon after a toddler?
What if she did go the route and have Mac have a baby for her and Cane. Then she dies, her baby would never know her. Big deal if someone tells the baby about you, that is not the same as being held by your mom, conforted by your mom. It can't be too comforting to be told, she loved you. Well, she sure did, but someone else would be doing the loving and raising. Probably Mac and Cane. Who would also be loving and holding each other.
I think they should wait. Why push yourself over the limit.

She needs to give some thought to how she feels living without her mom-at least she was grown when she lost her- chances are just as good as not that her child would be left motherless-let's get over the drama of the cancer before we start taking on more-- cancer is quite enough for everyone right now I would think-

[quote] I totally agree. Why wait? With mac carrying the baby it will take 8-9 months until delivery and just think
of the fun lily and cane could be having while anticipating
the birth of their baby or babies. I say go for it!!
While they have this wonderful surrogate take advantage of
it now. While lily and cane are waiting mac just might have
to leave GC. They couldn't get a better surrogate. [quote]

I think Lily should wait until shes better, stronger. but with all shs been through and wanting a baby so much I think it will keep her hopes up and help her deal with it all better and she will look forward to the future with her Family. her Cane and baby. I think it will make her better faster.

Wow with all the quotes it took forever to give an answer but here is is. Why wait time is a factor for Lily and Cane. They just renewed their vows and Lily wants a baby. Mac is willing so what is stopping them from having a child that they want and need right now? Lily will be a great mom and Cane a great dad and Mac is the best choice for the surragate mom (IMO) Let's do this!

ITA with the above posts

I am a great fan of Lane and initially I did not think that they needed to have a child at this time, but after watching the epi for 11/6, I have changed my mind. Lily wanted a child before she had cancer. I think she is trying to pick up the pieces, be optimistic, move forward, and not dwell in the cancer. It's the same as her cutting her hair, she's not letting the cancer control her life. Lily also believes in the power of her dream and the prophesy that Colleen made, why wouldn't she? I think the whole story of Lily and Cane making this journey to have a child, will have some very beautiful moments, so I can't wait to see them make it

Just a tad selfish..let us put a baby in the mix so chemo mommy can struggle even harder!! Dumb, dumb.. what is the hurry..she can't even make a pot roast without keeling over.. dumb writers.. besides Lily will lose Cane to Mac.. BABIES NEVER fix anything..only bring new stress to precarious situations.. dumb, dumb..Also, Ovarian cancer in stage four is never, ever cancer "free" it isn't like some other cancers..it continues effecting other body parts.
My Mom lost female organs, intestines, ( at five years) then it travelled to her bones, then lungs and to her brain.. reality sucks..

By the Lake soaps are not reality. They may have some realistic life situations, like Lily and Cane considering surrogacy, but don't expect things to happen based on your idea of what should or would happen in the real world. The same as Lily having stage 4 cancer, your mother's experience will not be Lily's. And why should Lily and Cane be the only ones on this soap that have the harshest realities of life occur. It wasn't realistic for Ashley to think she was carrying a child and she was never examined by a physician to say that she didn't have a baby and it's not realistic that Adam can get around and do the things he does, it's not realistic that a person could have their face changed to look exactly like their therapist, but all these things occurred and the list goes on and on. If you want reality and/or real life a soap is not the place for that.
I personally look forward to Lily and Cane making this journey into having a child. Hopefully it will give others hope.

Has anyone even thought about the fact that Cane lied about his identity and Lily really doesn't even know the man that she is potentially having a child with? I'm not saying that he's a bad person (or a good person for that matter) and I can see how much he cares about and loves Lily but maybe she should get to know the REAL Cane before she decides to spread her seed with him. She needs to know the truth before she can move past what happened between them before she got cancer...babies don't save relationships and once she is better (if she gets better...which is another reason why she shouldn't think about having a baby but I see that all of you have covered all the bases on that one) the old feelings of being deceived and lied to will resurface but only then they will have to think about WAY more than their own feelings and it will make things even more complicated...what about the whole "cattle wrangler" story or whatever he was talking about...will Lily's baby be in danger because of them in the future? Only time will tell...

LilMonkey they have moved beyond the fact that Cane lied about being Phillip Chancellor. Cane and Lily have spent the past couple of months getting past this. That is a non issue. And Lily is certainly not wanting to have a child because she's trying to save her marriage. She already decided that Cane is the one for her. All their dialog past and present attest to that fact. Lily wants this child for her own reasons. To me this child will represent hope for Lily and it will give her the greatest incentive to fight and move forward, in addition to Cane's love and support.

It doesn't matter if you think Cane and Lily will be great parents or not. It is all about what she (Lily) wants right now and nothing else, so yes she is being selfish. Yes I see where hope can do wonders, but Lily needs to put her hope and desires on something else. Like just plain beating the cancer so she can have that baby or babies someday. One hour before she made this proclamation, she was telling Cane how bad she felt and a couple hours before that none of them even knew if she would make it or not. What's to make any of them think that this or something similar couldn't happen again, with a totally different out come. Relying on a dream she had that she is going to beat the cancer and have a baby is not being responsible about bringing a child into the world. It would be different if she was already pregnant, but she isn't. To have a surrogate be inseminated, when you don't even know if you will live long enough to see if it took let alone thru the first trimester is wrong no matter how you look at it. The way her cancer has been going Mac could be implanted one day and Lily could die the next.
Not only that, but surrogates don't have a history of miscarrage, because they could end up loosing the implanted embryo. Something like a 50% chance they could miscarry again.
