The Young and the Restless - MESSAGE BOARDS

I started watching the Y&R about 20 years ago. When I realized that the baby switch was actually going to happen I stopped watching. To be honest, I haven't missed this soap at all. I do pop on here to see what's going on though.

I stopped watching the show months ago, but I know exactly what's going on (moreso with the s/ls I care about - the rest, I don't care, so I don't follow). I don't have to actually watch the show to know and comment on storylines - as many others do on the boards as well.

I firmly believe many who said they'd quit watching have; some maybe threatened to, but haven't quite kicked the habit fully yet. Everyone's breaking point is different, but recent s/ls have apparently pushed a lot of people to the breaking point. Even TV Guide's (Canada) Nelson Branco, who sang MABs praises for so long, finally admitted in his Nov. 3 Soapgeist column that Y&R is unwatchable now. It's a sentiment shared by many. Some still like the show and still watch. But many find the show apalling and have stopped watching. To those viewers I say continue (or start) to write the show (go to CBS.com's Y&R page and hit the "feedback" link at the bottom of the screen) and voice your opinion. It could mean the difference between the same swill being slopped out indefinitely OR a shake-up in the writing (see LML as an example).

I quit watching some months ago-the way time passes- it could have been 6 months ago- I don't know - I have quit on several occasions over the years-- I think we each have our own tolerance level - When the s/l get so ridiculous that I cannot justify wasting 5 hours a week of my precious time - then I just quit watching-I remember when this show was the best soap going- anymore, it is uncomfortable to watch - I can see the writers scrambling to come up with something that will put the show back on top and it ain't working- at least not for me- sometimes simple and believable works and is far more enjoyable than the far out stuff we have been exposed to --

I'm still watching, but I never threatened to leave... I watch more out of habit than anything and hoping the writing will improve.

This is NOT the same soap that Bill Bell created..... that
kept my interest for so many years... Since he died.. they have gone through several head writers.. and no one can match Bill Bell's creativity...but I will say this is the "darkest" story writing I've ever seen... So much of it, never makes sense.....very disjointed.. re-writing history...

I miss the basic writing style of dropping a seed... then building on it for about a year... with other story lines going on around it... but there was always, always a "MAIN" story line... that was soooooo interesting.

I had great hopes when Adam came to G.C... but these writers
have managed to demonize him sooooo much.. this could not
possibly be Hope's son... I guess the present writers never
did watch Victor and Hope...

This soap was built around Victor and Nikki and the power struggle between the Newmans and Abbotts.. the problem is... they have become old in age and even died. Nothing has come along to replace that concept..The off springs of these two families.. just don't have it....It's why I was
counting on Adam.....the soap needed another Power House character, not some evil monster...those have always been sub-stories...

So I am hoping that Tucker breathes new life in this worn out Soap... It's on life support and needs a BIG SHOT OF SOMETHING...


I've also watch ATWT for years.... seen it go through some
horrible writing...it was No. 1 for years and years... now.. at the bottom...

May, June, July, August, September until about 2-3 weeks ago when I read Victor was leaving I didn't bother with the show. I can't be concern to wast my time with s/l's that don't make sense. I'm just about to quit again unless this s/l with Adam/Nick and Sharon gives me hope for a reunion between Sharon and Nick with their two children Noah and baby Faith.

I'm not watching~I stopped when Adam took Sharon's baby. Now that they're planning on making them a couple, I guess I won't be watching for a long time!!!! I'll keep reading the updates and visiting this board to find out when the writers gain some semblance of earning their title!

I'll stop watching as soon as Y&R goes off the air or I start pushing up daisies; whichever comes first.

I love Y&R. Always have, still do. No, I don't always like the storylines, or all the characters/actors, but for the most part, it's still the number one soap on TV.

If there aren't things to upset you, make you angry, make your cry, then the show isn't doing it's job. Who wants to watch a soap where everything is going exactly the way you want it. My life is boring enough, I tune in for excitement and intrigue. I think Y&R is better right now than it's been in years. And I give a lot of that credit to Michael Muhney.

I quit watching awhile back when Sharon was being written so badly. I'll check in 2 or 3 times a week with the updates or to give Sharon my support on her no-bash thread. Not saying I won't be back when things improve with her, but seeing her with Adam is just more than I can take.
