VICTOR is like JR. EWING in some respects and I think his character was based a little on JR. TGVN was not even introduced until after the WHO SHOT JR. s/l even ran(VIC was introduced in 1980!)and let's face it how many of us LOVE TO HATE ole VIC just as we did JR? oh, yeah I know ole smilin JACK totally "stole" his impish smirk/grin didn't he? TGVN's BIG DIFFERENCE is he was/is a SELF-MADE man much like JR.'s DADDY ole JOCK EWING. Yep lets remember the origins of the BARNES?EWING FEUD over the oil field they both wanted to bring in the oil. you see ole DIGGER BARNES & JOCK both loved MISS ELLY and she ended up with the one that was successful in the oil business. Yeah, ole DIGGER and JOCK were roughnecks together in the oilfields and the BARNES always thought that ole JOCK "stole" what eventually became EWING OIL from them! some said ole JOCK "cheated" ole DIGGER and at least that what ole CLIFF always thought. Like JR. TGVN has had a business/nemesis in that of ole smilin JACK and their feud was like the BARNES/EWING FEUD in many respects. CLIFF has gone after EWING OIL just as much as ole smilin JACK has gone after NE and for that fact just as many times as TGVN has gone after JABOT!
Part of the BARNES/EWING FEUD has been over women just as with the ABBOTT/NEWMAN FEUD. Consider/contrast both SUE ELLEN EWING who was bedded by both JR(married to)and CLIFF BARNES. Sue ELLEN the long-suffering alcoholic former beauty queen MISS TEXAS winner to NIKKI NEWMAN(married to both men)the long-suffering ex-alcoholic pill/popper former model STRIPPER. Both women were involved with both members of the feud but also with other men who treated them better only to return to JR. & TGVN time after time! Don't forget to throw in the long-suffering sister to ole smilin JACK that a mental hospital is a girl's BEST FRIEND patient ASHLEY ABBOTT and SPERM-STEALEWR EXTRAORDINAIRE! Jr. was a businessman that made as many enemies as the day was long but boy did he know "how" to make the bucks just like ole VIC! Now, we all know that both ole CLIFF BARNES & ole smiln JACK had great educations and they both schemed & schemed to get the BETTER of their nemesis(JR. & TGVN respectively)but they just NEVER really succeeded? Wonder, why you say? People felt sorry for ole CLIFFIE because no matter he would do he came so close much like ole smilin JACK! Almost.....but NOT QUITE!
Cliff was never really happy in all of his relationships much like ole smilin JACK. hmmm. Seems like both ole smilin JACK & CLIFF would find women that would eventually betray them to either TGVN or JR. hmmmmm. What's up with that? Was SUE ELLEN the "love" of CLIFF's life? I do not know! But I don't think so. I think she was a "way" to get at JR, a means to an end. Was NIKKI the "love" of ole smilin JACK's life? I do not know! But I don't think so. I think she was a "way" to get "at" TGVN. Remember when they first started TGVN was having an affair with ASHLEY & NIKKI was bored & neglected! TGVN & ole smilin JACK even "bartered" over NIKKI like she was a piece of stock or a PRIZED ARABIAN MARE. Maybe she was to them. Remember when ole smilin JACK was married to NIKKI & TGVN had JABOT & JACK wanted JABOT & ole VIC wanted NIKKI. Chango! presto! Done deal as they say in DALLAS! Then PHYLLIS could have the love of JACK's life much like ASHTON was to CLIFFS and yet both ladies betrayed their men for business & a buck to JR. & TGVN! Jack married another ex-NEWMAN when he married SHARON NEWMAN(TGVN's DIL). Naw, she was just another "pawn" in this feud. Did he love her maybe a little but she was just a pawn because he was again trying to get back at a NEWMAN(for having an affair & marrying the woman that he thought was carrying his baby) much like CLIFF always did with JR.
Now, when we first saw ole VIC he was coming to work for KATHERINE and then she "sold" him the ranch. TGVN lived on a RANCH, had horses, and even dressed western much like JR. What I don't remember is him wearing a STETSON, and his ranch while large for WISCONSIN standards did not or could it ever be compared to the 100,000 plus acres with all the cattle , either. CATTLE & OIL in TEXAS compared to the corporate conglomorate of TGVN. VIC may live on a ranch and be a billionaire like JR and in many ways is like JR.(without that impish grin/smirk but ole smilin JACK totally "stole" that from JR.)and have the pre-requisit family feud but he is a self-made man unlike JR. but he still remeinds me of JR. because he usually wins in the feud and gets away with EVERYTHING! While I will say that ole smilin JACK remeinds me of CLIFF in many ways themost being trying so hard but never seeming to "beat" the billionaire I must admit that I just couldn't see ole smilin JACK in a STETSON or heaven forbid riding a HORSE! LOL! JMO!
