I think if the writers have Lily concieve that will do it for me. My mother died of ovarian cancer and the FIRST thing they do is take your ovaries out..plus your uterus and all other female parts effected! They would NOT harvest eggs that may be diseased!! PUHLEESE! |

PUHLEESE! The doctors did harvest a couple of Lily's eggs just before they did surgery on her...so that one day in the future someone else could become a surrogate and with fertilization from her husband Cane, the surrogate could "house as an oven" the egg to become their baby... |

It is just a soap. If it gets too serious or "real" we may lose even more viewers. I hope Lily does have a baby with the eggs. |

Who said anything about Lily conceiving/having a child naturally that is? She is rendered barren, with no womb, ovaries, etc. She cannot have children but the doctors were able to harvest only two viable eggs. I don't think that's too much of a stretch. It does give women hope and it lets women that are cancer survivors see that it is possible to have biological children through Invitro Fertilization. Cane's sperm would be used at this point to fertilize the eggs. This of course would be done in a lab, so how does that tie into superman's sperm. For the record all that we've seen of Lily over the past months (which we really haven't seen her much), is her suffering through the effects of cancer and chemo. She is bald (from shaving her own hair to symbolize taking control before the cancer took her hair), she is isolated (can't go out cause her immune system is low), she had chemo (in a realistic looking hospital setting), she is going through menopause or chemopause with frequent hot flashes and she has talked about perhaps not surviving. I have not been pleased with what has happened to the character of Lily, but I certainly don't see someone that has been portrayed unrealistically, the character and her husband Cane have gone through hell, not a bed of roses like some others. |

Love your post Charme...Cane is Lily's rock and soulmate, remaining constantly by her side...a true love story connection...a little happiness in the possibility of a little baby together would complete this picture and make a great package... |

Maybe only one ovary was diseased and the other one was viable, however was removed anyway in order to lessen the chances of further spread. |

By The Lake I can sympathize with you losing your mother I lost mine at the age of 8. I still think the one thing Y&R did right with this s/l, was show other women that are young like the Lily character that there is perhaps hope with surviving Ovarian Cancer. After reading your post I did go online to read and I found the story of a young woman that had Stage 4 Ovarian cancer. She is a five year survivor. She appearantly wanted children and had a dilemma within herself about having a complete hysterectomy. Along with her doctor she decided to leave one ovary, one that was not diseased. She is now looking at doing Invitro Fertilization. So perhaps Lily's story isn't too far off the mark. Like I said I think for many women it was/is inspirational. And it truly has shown in my opinion the horrors of cancer, especially for a very young woman. |

Okay in the 1960's on Another WorldPat Matthews had an "illegal operation" (her boyfriend was a med student & performed an abortion on her). She had an emeregency hestrectomy. In the 1970's she married her lawyer who defended her in the murder of her boyfriend (She killed him , but didn't remember). She later gave birth to twins MaryAnn & Micheal |

The facts are..if there is STAGE four cancer everything goes..they do not keep anything!! Ovarian is called the silent killer there are NO symptoms till it is too late. I know another woman right now who is dying from it..all the news media centers on Breast cancer while ovarian just keeps on killing!! Everything goes..I had the surgery to prevent myself from getting it like my Mom..trust me! |
