The laws vary from state to state. In mine (Texas) I believe you have to let the tenant have 2 weeks to vacate the location. The way Nick did it would be illeagal here.

I live in Wisconsin & giving someone 15 minutes or till the end of the day to vacate, because he doesn't like how someone runs their business, isn't legal here either.

HAH! TELL "that" to TPTB QUEEN! When has the law or even a medical procedure for that matter ever made a bit of difference to TPTB? LOL! Maybe, there will be a court battle! Sometimes threats, intimidations, and BULLY TACTIC work. It has worked for other characters in the past or even not so long ago!

ITA. I know this is fiction, but it kills me that the writers will follow the rules sometimes, for instance, the SCC on Victoria--and not follow the rules on other pertinent info.

I'm guessing that's why when Billy said "you can't do that", Nick said "so sue me".

In soap land you can get away with anything at all, it's beyond fiction. You would think they would at least try & make it somewhat realistic, but then it wouldn't be a soap if they did, i guess.

SEC! The SECURITIES and EXCHANGE COMMISSION! Also insider trading or even the FDIC have nothing to do with a bank that is in the CAYMAN ISLANDS which is mainly used by wealthy individuals or corporations to hide monies from paying taxes to our government. Many times the monies are gathered illegally for example drugs or selling arms sales! I am still having a hard time believing that a woman like JILL who is written as an astute businesswoman would put all or most of her assets in one bank whereever it may be located. I posted this in another thread that I also believe that the insider trading thing may be flipped on them and instead the government will go after them for TAX EVASION! Afterall President OBAMA has recently announced he will go after corporations and individuals who are hiding assets from our government. JMO!

In the state where I live, if you have a lease well, that's a problem to break.

Without a lease, either party has to give the other at least 30 days written notice.

So since this is a soap, they will get away with anything they want just for dramatic purposes.

I mean, the sale of Restless Style between Nick and Phyllis and Billy - all they showed was a...well, not even a handshake, just a verbal sale. Read my lips, you want to buy? Okay, give me a check. We're outta here. Where are the lawyers and paperwork and accountants in this sale? This is a business. Just like that it was sold. You can only surmise that this, being a soap, is fastforwarded a few weeks, months, etc. for the sale to be consummated as is shown with Billy waltzing right up to the desk, upon the verbal sale, sitting right down at the computer and commencing his hacksaw attack on Victor. How ludicrous!

I believe that during the discussion of the sale of RS, mention was made a couple of times about "having the attorneys go over the details". So, I guess we can assume the deal was solid. However, doesn't a property owner need to have a legitimate reason for evicting other than they don't like the new owner or the way the owner conducts business? After all, Billy is doing nothing illegal - perhaps unethical, but I don't think Nick has much of a legal leg to stand on unless he takes it to court. Eviction is a legal process.

Good points you stated!! And I, also, thought how dumb they made Jill sound about putting all of her eggs in one basket like that, only to loose it. Wayyy too dumb!!! I wouldn't want Jill running my company if she would do that.

I thought the same thing. I had more trouble than that buying a new car.
