Quote sasusan014: I believe that once Eric B. made his statement about leaving, Sony and whoever were backed into a corner. They had to "shoot" or get off the pot!! Of course Erik does not want to leave this show, didn't he just turn 68? Victor is a great character, there is nobody who could replace Eric as Victor. That would have ruined the show. But, I do believe the show would have gone on without Victor. Also, when you do have all of these "reality" stars, that make all this money for what?? Being idiots!!! YOU GOT THAT!!!! At least we didn't have to watch EB eating worms or bugs!!! |

Quote Oreo123: Quote Longhornsfan79: No way he was leaving...I knew at the last minute he would re-sign. Whatta bunch of bull spit! IT WAS ALL A PUBLICITY STUNT TO GENERATE A BUZZ FOR Y&R! Maybe yes and maybe no. Eric is quoted at being amazed at how many loyal fans he has and that the loyalty is what brought him back to the table. I agree with you, Cookie, because if it was a publicity stunt, then, in essence, it would insinuate that EB is a liar, and I don't think he is that type of person, from what I have read about him. |

I am in no way implying that EB is a liar....I think this was all the the studios idea. Like I said ratings for this genre are down acrooss the board and its convienient how Y&R has been in every entertainment magazine and all over television since this story broke...im sorry, in my opinion there are no coincidences. |

I think it was pretty clear that he had every intention of leaving. It was never about the money and I believe he stated as such. |

I was so looking forward to Victor leaving. I know it's just a show, but I hate that such a mean person is idolized. |

I think that if one tends to be an EB fan they will interpret the story one way and other that are not fans or just neutral will see things perhaps a different way. I think that he never had any intention of leaving and wanted to see how far Sony would go and whether they would back down. What else is he going to say other than it was never about the money? Is he really going to say, "I think I am worth more than 1million dollars?" He is a business man and of course he and his agent would want to make sure he gets the best deal possible. I am glad that his fans are happy and while I am not a Victor fan I do admit that his story as Newman family leader and rival of Jack Abbot does need to be told. |

Of all people, my husband told me that Victor is back. I stopped watching for two weeks when I heard EB's comment that he was leaving and why. I think we can hold in high regard that it was not a scheme, the world is not that bad yet. It is ok to believe people once in a while and I believe that he really was leaving. I am so glad that he is back and I will once again set my timers. |

Probably not, just more of the usual hype and wish they would just focus on daytime drama on screen only instead of wasting time upsetting viewers with thier personal/business stuff. Chop chop let's get back to work and concentrate on writting some good dramatic story-lines and watching the actors knock the ball out the park with thier outstanding acting abilities. Save the personal drama for your momma. JMO |

Did the cast of Friends have any problems telling NBC that they were each worth 1 million an episode? No, so why would he? My point is that he has no reason to lie, because even if he felt he was worth more than they were paying him, most people wouldn't hold that against him, especially since he voluntarily took a pay cut a few years back. And there has been nothing to suggest that anything that EB stated to the media has been anything less than truthful. So I guess I'm confused because your negative opinion of EB is based off of.....well nothing it seems. At least nothing that you've stated in this thread. |

I totally agree with your post....everybody seems to forget that he did, indeed, voluntarily take a pay cut before. Guess it is easy to just forget the important and relevant things, eh? |

I can understand people not liking the character of Victor Newman. I just think it's unfair to question the actor's integrity for no apparent reason. |

If you are interested in another take on the story I suggest you read Josef Adalian's article "Showdown in Genoa City Rocks the Soap World" That is one of the article that leads me to think a little differently. We like the actors that we like and that is all good. All I am saying is that I have a differing view of the situation. I think that my opinion is just as valid as that of anyone. You are an EB supporter and I can respect that. All I am saying is that every story has two sides. |
