Quote Oreo123: I understand where all of you are coming from..really I do.
But you must realize that writers, producers and all media types want a response to their work....and they are getting it. An old saying in the business and taught throughout many years is "There is no such thing as bad press....it is better than no press at all" The fact that these s/l's have elicited so much raw emotion tells them they are doing a good job. Sound ridiculous? Yes. Nevertheless it is true. When you are talking/writing about a show you are not talking about another show. Bad campaigns - believe it or not - make people tune in to see what all the fuss is about.

It's called the Paris Hilton/Britney Spears effect. There is no such thing as bad press.
Like watching a train wreck you don't want to see it but you slow down and take a look anyways. Everyone does it. Then they are sorry they did when they see something gross or they didn't want to see.

I have been watching Y&R for a long time. I grew up watching it with my nana. The story lines today are just terrible. Y&R was the number one soap for years because it was realistic that is what set it apart from other soaps. The show has strong and terrific actors. I feel sorry for them that they have to tolerate the crappy storylines that they are given. I can't beleive that Lee Phillip Bell is letting the writers destroy a wonderful show that she created with her late husband.

The writing sucks! Y&R used to be so good. They kept the storylines real and they didn't drag. Now, the storylines are just stupid. People die left and right, get sick or hurt, the baby switch, the bank robberies, etc. It's just crazy!

I rarely watch Y & R ... there was a time when i would plan my day around the Y&R ... and we get it 3-times a day in our area ... the whole s/l is pathetic and unbeleivable ... and many wrote "the writers insult our intelligence" ... it's gone beyond that ... they insult their own intelligence - they have failed ... failed .... failed ... failed .... failed ... I WOULD LIKE ONE WRITER RESPOND TO ANY OF THE POSTS IN THIS THREAD ... DO THEY EVEN READ IT ... DO THEY CARE ???????????????

Yep. The show blows major rocks and the ratings fall in the past 10 months is proof positive of that. Reading message board updates and discussing the show on sites like this does NOT make up for viewers not tuning in and watching the show on T.V. - that's the gauge the show and the advertisers use. So while there's much talk still about the show, the majority of the discussions seem to be saying the same thing: the show's writing sucks. That won't translate to increased ratings until the writing goes through a major overhaul, and even then, it may still be too late.

One reason I think Soaps are a dying breed is because writers are incapable these days, it seems, to write well crafted, realistic, character-driven storylines anymore. It's all about shock value and plot stunts. But I say, just look at the ratings of the other Soaps that have used those tactics over the years (e.g. DOOL, ATWT, Passions, GL, AMC). If the current writing team of the Y&R insist on using those soaps as a model for storytelling (which, given Hogan Sheffer and Paul Rauch's presence, they are), Y&R's ratings will continue to fall, IMO.

IMHO the s/l's suck with all the dark, evil, perverted, twisted, sick episodes, and if they are reading this, they know to whom and what I am alluding to.

I want to watch tv to be purely entertained, and have some lightheartedness and humor, and not all the sickness that MBell and her crew seem to be spreading and displaying these last few years. If I wanted that, I'd go rent a horror film.

We will never be able to go back to the vintage happy years of Y&R, and I've watched this since day one.

You are right. The Golden Age of the Y&R is over and we likely will never see the quality writing of the past ever again. Bill Bell has passed on, and LML fired all the key writers and production staff that worked with Bill Bell for years.

But is it really too much to ask to have a writing team in place who KNOWS and cares about character histories and can write engaging stories that allow characters to remain true to history WITHOUT constant dark plot stunts? Really, is that too much to ask? The shlock and "shock stunts" Y&R has been writing lately, replete with the humiliation and abuse of so many female characters at the hands of the men they "love", is characteristic of shows like DOOL, ATWT and Passions (thanks Hogan ) to, presumably, draw in this illusive "younger demographic". But where is Passions now? That's right - cancelled. Look at the ratings for the other soaps. So why is it so hard for MAB and her team and the puppet-masters at CBS/Sony to figure this out? What they're doing now is NOT working.

I've missed so many episodes and when I do see it I flick it so much and must only see a good 15 minutes....

It truely is a shame I used to enjoy watching this show...it boring.

The dialogue is dull....like Chance bugging out on his dad all of sudden cause Chloe wont "commit"....flipping idiot he is....uhmmmm...don't he know that his Uncle's Baby Mama....what he want to deal with that for anyway...she's like blood....you and her child are cousins!!

He looked so pathetic having that temper tantrun...I had to and flick it....it was just too out there and pathetic.

Not to mention I still hear the *clap clap clap* of Daniel and Amber sucking face still....*cringe*...Watch Twilight guys and then you will know how to kiss.....not to *clap clap clap*

Yep, now I try and check the boards for any new stuff and I see by the boards how dull the show is....sad.
