I also have to disagree with Oreo. This show is an escape from reality. A chance for one hour a day to put some of the horrors of my life aside and become one wih the TV and maybe live a little vicariously through some of the characters. I have PTSD from Afghanistan and it's nice to just forget about all the crap on my mind and just get into th show for an hour. I have enough depression and sadness in my life for several people, I don't need to see bomb after bomb dropped on my favorite characters. Some tough times, maybe the occasional tragedy.... I can handle that in a soap. But MONTHS of non stop agony???? But I digress.

My two cents on what they can do in the immediate future;
1; Have Dr. Taylor write a confessional note, deliver it to Sharon, then have him go commit suicide over his deeds.... his role is done anyway. 2; Have Sharon and Nick petition for a DNA test on Faith on the grounds of probable cause. (The doctors confession note AND the fact Sharon and Ash gave birth simultaneously in a mental institute) 3; Have it brought to light that a camera in the hallway of the nuthouse picked up Taylor exiting Sharons room with a LIVE baby... it is after all a funny farm, I'm SURE they have cameras in their halls. 4; You want drama? Have it come to Nicks attention what Adam did and have Nick beat the ever loving daylights out of Adam.... hospistalized and on deaths door kinda butt kicking. Nick can go on trial for attempted murder and assault for some TV drama, then Baldwin can get him off the hook on a temporary insanity plea as Adam caused Nick to believe his daughter was dead and kidnapped his actual child.... Nick will get off. 5; After Adam's recovery and weeks of drinking his steak and potatoes through a straw, HE goes on trial for a plethora of crimes, is found guilty and hauled off to prison getting his sorry butt off the show. 6; During Summer's stay in Switzerland, come up with some reason (medical type issue, not my area of expertise) to have to test her parents to her blood/tissue and have it come out neither Nick or Phyllis matches and then Jack is revealed as the father 7; Have Nick and Phyllis FINALLY end that sham of a marriage and Nick and Sharon get together freeing up Jack to move into the daddy role with Phyllis and Summer..... I can go on and on with my ideas for sub plots with the other characters, but then this post would just be ridiculously long..... My .02 anyway

I understand where all of you are coming from..really I do.
But you must realize that writers, producers and all media types want a response to their work....and they are getting it. An old saying in the business and taught throughout many years is "There is no such thing as bad press....it is better than no press at all" The fact that these s/l's have elicited so much raw emotion tells them they are doing a good job. Sound ridiculous? Yes. Nevertheless it is true. When you are talking/writing about a show you are not talking about another show. Bad campaigns - believe it or not - make people tune in to see what all the fuss is about.

But they're NOT doing a good job. They're writing is awful and amateurish. A story should FLOW smoothly with explanations for things happening the way they do. Take Colleens position here. She goes off to get help for MJ/Patty, and the next thing we know, she is visiting friends in spirit form and then Jack is pictured over her trying to revive her. HOW did she end up drowning? Never showed what happened there, the writers just decided she drowned in a flat calm kids campsite lake. WHY did she get in a boat to get help when Jack AND Victor both arrived at the same location without having to paddle in themselves. Colleen is out of the water soaking wet and Jack is dry as a bone... WTF? How did he get her out of the water without getting wet himself? This is grammer school kid fantasy writing. Me as an educated adult cannot buy this storyline as being real and believable making me call the writers out as no talent morons. I said all of this before in another thread, but it illustrates my point perfectly here. As well, MJ is at deaths door with her spider bite, but then shows up well enough to shoot Victor.... sorry, she was in anaphalactic shock from that bite and there's NO WAY she could have been cognizant enough to show up and perform physically the way she did.... It's ridiculous!

Colleen knew the lake (she went to camp there), saw a boat and decided to use it to cross the lake to the other side. The boat tipped and she fell in the water. She was shown bumping her head on the bottom of the boat swimming to the surface.
Much of the s/l's are a- s t r e t c h - I agree. S/l's dangle without being neatly tied in a bow. Are these the best writers we have ever seen? No. There are prime time legal and medical shows that have advisors to provide factual realism. Soaps historically have alwayhs been an escape from reality....and still are. Now that the audience is more sophisticated perhaps the writers need to become more realistic. The viewers have changed with the times. Maybe it is time to address that.

Perhaps this is one of the writers issues as well.... men are starting to watch this show more than they used to. Soaps are targeted at women, but now lots of men are watching. Men are logical thinkers which is why we are so inept at dealing with women..... we are looking for the REASON she is crying and the way to fix it to STOP HER CRYING. Thats how we roll. We don't stop to think maybe she doesn't WANT us to fix it or stop her crying, maybe she just wants us to hold her in our arms, say nothing and just let it be what it is. As a man, I am looking at this show logically and trying to grasp HOW Colleen drowned and it stumps me, and the writers give me NO indication how it happened, they just want me to go along with it.... I don't recall seeing Colleen bumping her head, but if she did, explain how MJ/Patty showed up on the scene in anphalactic shock and had the presense of mind to do what she did, when we saw her earlier BARELY able to move. Anaphalactic shock affects the fine motor skills BIG TIME and she could not have physically done what she did. I can't do that, just accept that things happen and thats the end of it. When my mother used to say "Because I said so" as a reason, it drove me insane. I need something to make sense, and this show isn't making much sense these days.

LOL...Men are from Mars and Women from Venus! That was a great explanation. Men always confuse the issue with logic and reasoning.....ha ha ha. But you figured that out - smart man! Colleen hit her head on the bottom of the boat....they showed it.

Allrighty Oreo, you may have me on the Colleen issue, but explain the MJ/Patty in anaphalactic shock, barely being able to move when Colleen left, then *poof* a miraculous recovery with the motor skills and physical abilty to do what she did to Victor? Medically AND physically speaking, that was UNBELIEVABLE!!!! And now that I think of it, didn't Colleen get the gun from MJ/Patty when she collapsed? I believe she did! WHERE did MJ/Patty get the gun from again? WHO leaves their psycho kidnapper with a weapon when they can easily take it from them?

I suspect Oreo is gonna tell me to stop watching Y&R AND stop posting on this site very soon. LOL

BTW, I didn't figure out that bit on women crying by myself, my wife explained that to me long ago after one of my male bull-headed attempts to fix her issue when all she wanted was support..... I just remembered what she said and kept it for future reference so I didn't make the same dumb mistake over and over.

LOL...I would never tell anyone to stop watching or posting. You raise legitimate questions. I cannot splain (as Ricky Ricardo would say) them all. Loved your story about women and the lesson your wife taght you. Here is one more....somethings are never explainable.

NO MORE ACTORS/ACTRESSES CONTRACT(S) REVIEWS/CHANGES.... END THE WRITERS CONTRACTS..... These current Writers need to put PAPER BAGS over their HEADS & HIDE in SHAME. I no longer walk out during COMMERICALS. SPONSERS, We, The Viewers are watching uuuuuuu. It's time that uuuu apply some pressure. This soap has become a degrading show targeting women & the abuse/deaths of babies/children. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH..... CHANGE IT.

My high school seniors write better characters/plots/story lines than this! They don't follow any of the tenets of writing fiction.

I find myself fstfwding most of the scenes s.a. Gloria & Jeff(ridiculous)!, Amber & Daniel, Nick & Phyllis, Michael and Lauren. The only thing that's keeping my attention right now is the s/l w/donating Colleens heart and the possibility that maybe Victor could be related to the Abbots. I do hope they bring Mary Jane/Patty character back. She added spice to show! Other than that I'm really thankful for my DVR so I don't have to watch these ridiculous, moronic s/lines that have been done over and over but w/different actors playing the roles.

Hi Soldier!

Look, you're not the only one who is having issues with the crappy s/l's lately!!!

As a woman, I too am befuttled by the ignorance we have been watching. Colleen going into the lake and bumping her head made NO SENSE whatsoever. People can sugart coat that all they want...it was ridiculous!!

The way Patty reacted to that spider bite is another issue! She damn near passed out...gets strong enough to threaten Jack and shoot Victor...then she's weak all over again STUPID!!!

Let's not forget blind Adam

How this fuzzy eyed man gets all over GC like Flash Gordon is beyond me!!! He can barely see but takes Sharon's baby right out of Dr. Taylor's hands Dr. Taylor should have swiftly walked away with the baby and let Adam bump into all kinds of sh-- in the process of looking for them

Also, why didn't Dr. Taylor just say to Adam...go ahead and tell! You're not innocent either!! That would have slowed that blind man down for a bit

My husband is thru with this show because it's NOT LOGICAL. Adam having sex with Rafe put him way over the edge. Now the baby switch crap is just ridiculous. He's done with the show.

So, OREO...just because people are talking about the show doesn't mean it's for the better. People are sick of the crap that has been going on and aren't watching the show as much as they used to. Many have tuned out and that's NOT a good thing for Y&R. They really need to clean up their acts and get it together SOON!!!

Oreo:
I know that bad press is better than no press at all, but this seems different. You have long-time viewers who are (threatening on) bailing out. That's more than a controversial storyline that elicits controversy. It's about declining viewership.

To put it bluntly, crap storylines and writing snuffed out Guiding Light.

I doubt that's the intended outcome TPTB had in mind.

BTW, I respect your opinion and appreciate your thoughtful posts.
