The Young and the Restless - MESSAGE BOARDS

Whoops, this is my first post in ever so long and I forgot how it's done. In any case, I'm with you all who think this soap is losing it. I've turned it on and then promptly turned it right off again. I haven't watched it all week. I just cant take it anymore...it's inane. I was happy to find out I wasn't the only one who hated it. Thanks for letting me vent.

look at the boards...the writing is so poor, most of the threads are about the baby switch, i don't know where to post anymore because is a variation of the same theme, adam baby switch, ashley, baby switch, sharon baby switch, this s/l
is so insulting and has been dragged out way too long

The writing HAS indeed gone downhill. They didn't even explain HOW Colleen ended up in her state. She runs off for help for MJ/Patty.... next thing we see is her visiting friends in spirit form, and then *poof* Jack is trying to save her. Ok... Rewind. Exactly HOW did she end up drowning in a lake that was calm and flat? This is a lake at a kids summer camp.... no riptides, undertows, they just write her off as drowning. I don't get it. Lets put that aside.... WHY did she even get IN the boat??? Victor arrived at the location without having to paddle in, Jack too never boated to where Colleen and MJ were.... WHY did Colleen have to paddle a boat to get help? Anyone? WHY was Colleen soaking wet (from drowning) and Jack was dry as a bone? How did Jack pull her out of the drink while staying dry and keeping his hair styled???? Anyone??? The writing has gotten unbelievable. My .02 anyhow

It's just no imagination writing at it's best. No explanations... "Oh it just happened, we can't explain it, but it happened" and we the viewer are supposed to believe this tripe? I'm an educated man, not a moron. I liked watching this soap because for many years it was good writing and lately..... I'll give it a few more weeks but if this craptacular writing continues, I'll spend that hour I used to watch Y&R doing something else.

I have been out the country for 2 weeks, so I fast forwarded thru the episodes. You have to be kidding me. Absurb is the understatement of what has transpired. No confirmation if Ashley really saw or hit Nikki & she appears back on the show. Victor getting shot wasn't enough, now the heart-Colleen's heart. Sharon & Ashley having babies at the same time & same place-seriously. Adam getting away with all these farfetched schemes & not getting caught. I thought he would be caught & off the show by now. Can't stand how he looks as he plays the part as a blind person. Lily's head wrap seriously needs to go-she is young, not in mourning wrapped in black. Ashley's pregnacy, or lack thereof, I thought would be over by this point. All the story lines have gone awry. Writers need to refocus & get REAL because this is getting too farfetched to be entertaining anymore. Hopefully they will wrap some of this ridiculous mess up immediately because I personally am not interested in dragging out any of these storylines they seemed to have created to embarked on.

Also killing Colleen and having her mother make a rough and hard decision about giving her heart to Victor? Why could you guys just get somebody else to play the character Colleen instead of killing her like that Why did Victor have to get a transplant from her of all people That did not make any sense at all.. Why did Lilly have to Cancer?? not only that?? Why did she have to make her not bee able to have any kids Oh, yeah and the possiblity that Adam & Sharon getting together Where is this coming from?? Sharon loves Nick. Why would you writers would even go there with those two characters that's really unbelieveable. Why would Sharon start to trust Adam like that for their to be a possiblities of a love intereste I don't think you writers should even put a thought where these two characters are concern. Sharon& Adam should not get involved at all. I think you writers should try and work on getting Nick & Sharon back together,and give them their baby back to them so they can be happy. Why is there so many Negativity going on with these characters I know it's for mad up, but WOOOW.. I really hope that you writers read these comments and listen to the viewers, and what we really want. After all we are the ones that keep you guys in business by watching your show, and if you don't give us what we the viewers want to see with our favorite characters and show, we might start watching other soaps. Nick& Sharon with their baby and a family again. Adam behind bars. Victor with Nickki Phyllis with Jack, and Summer. Jack needs to know that he is her father. How long are you guys are going to keep that story going Lily beating her Caner and having a baby with Cane. How about we the viewers start seeing more positive storyline with our characters. I am sorry to say this storyline is Very Disappointing and unreal.

Ok...I've been reading all the posts that want to put sanctions against the advertiser and start a letter writing campaign to do what? Fire the writers ? Change the charaqcter develpment. Switch the storylines?

I am remembering earlier days. Before the internet, fast forwarding and taping shows to watch at a later time. As a child I am listening to my grandmother and another discuss this show and others. they talked over tea. They talked while watching us kids. They talked over a fence or between their rosebushes. Mothers would be found glued to their set. Salons were abuzz with chatter on Y&R. Later teens - me included and college students more attentive to Y&R than their studies. Now men watch. Professionals watch.

Back in thse simpler days viewers did not have spoilers or the internet. No one thought of email or letter writing campaigns. They sat back and enjoyed the show as much as they did talking about it. Couples broke up. Couple got back together. People had affairs. Never once did I hear they would shut off the TV and stop watching because the s/l wasn't going their way. They laughed. THey cried. But they never stopped watching. Soaps are like life...ya can't stop living when the pain is too much....our mothers and graqndmothers knew that. Too bad we don't.

Now it is the proverbial train wreck that I can't help gawking at. Although my gawking has been reduced to FFing through about 2 episodes per week. Takes me about 15 minutes to watch an episode these days. I've also set my DVR to only store one episode. I don't want good shows being kicked out of the queue for this stupidity.

Oreo: I'm sorry, I have to disagree. Soaps are not like life. They are our entertainment. You cannot compare the two because they aren't even in the same realm. Nobody on these boards are quitting life even tho' the economy and other factors are making people suffer. We're hit again and again in real life and keep getting back up swinging. But, we do not have to watch total darkness for our entertainment when life is already hard enough for some at the moment. There are other brighter options that help us through life.


The recent s/l's are overwhelmingly depressing. It isn't just one s/l not going the viewers' way, it's nearly all of them that are dark. The show and it's characters have changed and everyone wants the 'old feel' back. That doesn't mean all s/l's need to go everyone's way. It means get the balance back, think through s/l's and characters for consistency, get creative instead of regurgitating old s/l's, and undo the most heinous current s/l's because we're past our gloom limit. Our capacity for darkness was reached before they hit this week. They just hit the breaking point. As a dear friend once told me, "when your bucket of chit gets full, dump it on the largest contributor so you can start again." That's what everyone has been doing.

When life is gloomy, do you pick up a gloomy movie for a pick-me-up or do you pick up something that will make you laugh or touch your heart? Or, maybe something mixed with all emotions? The past Y&R had mixtures and we stuck by the same as our mothers and grandmothers. But, it's nearly all dark now and I doubt they would've stuck through this, either. They would have turned their focus elsewhere, to more realistic options. We all keep dealing with life without quitting, but we choose our entertainment. We chose our show based on what it was, not on what it has become. We would love to have it back.

A couple days ago, I posted my displeasure with the dark, twisted, sick road that YR is headed down.

IMO the absolute crux of the problem is this.

If a story has just the right amount of truth or realism written into it, then no matter how unrealistic, the audience (us) would willingly and unconsciously suspend judgment concerning the implausibility. (willing suspension of disbelief)

For me, this is not happening.
