Quote clicquot1: Quote trixie60: I agree with most of these posts here. My question is why have these characters go to the chapel and beg for forgiveness and beg for a child not to die and then turn around and commit more sins. This is a soap and naturally they are not going to stop doing what their doing but why have this scene at all. They just go back to what they were doing and sometimes even worse things happen. Also I do agree that all kinds of people go to church but that is why they are there. The church is kind of like a hospital. They come to get better and a lot of them do just like the people on the soaps do. Go out and do wrongs again. The characters on the soap continue to do wrong because it's a soap but in the real world, most people want to do better and seem to learn from their mistakes and a sincere person wants to change. At least real people do this for a while or as best as they can. On the soaps they go right back to whatever they were doing. You said it yourself it is a SOAP and soaps are all about the DRAMA. The cheating, lying, scheming, murdering, DNA drama, baby mamma, baby daddy, stuffed-cat talking whack-a-doodle-do's, husban to be's cheating on their wedding day, hair-pulling, fist punching, claiming to be someone else, faked deaths, victims, bad guys, good guys, slutty. chaste, and even silver chipmunks who rob banks if we DIDN'T have all or some of this WHO WOULD WATCH? Well said. I didn't realize it but I guess I answered my own question!!!Thanks!! |

God is where ever you are! God is not confined to the inside of a church. Prayer is such a personal thing. Why is church the only place that it can be done on a soap? Or anywhere else for that matter. I understand the symbolism of the church and altar on these soaps, but I think that prayers need to be more realistic. More real people than you know have no other guidelines in life or examples of what a good or virtuous life ought to resemble than what they see on TV and that includes soaps. Life imitates art and vice versa. Look at the extreme things that are happening in your communities; some are so bizarre that they are hard to believe. |

I wrote on another thread that instead of thinking they were deserving of favors they should have been in the chapel saying their mea culpas. The politicians caught in scandals remind me of the old saying."Pride goes before a fall." They were all holding themselves up to a higher standard. It only goes to show people are weak in nature and everyone is capable of falling. I've read about Phyllis holding Michael prisoner - I wasn't watching then- but no one ever mentions Victor's basement prison where he held Jack (?) prisoner. Nikki said Phyllis had done some shameful things (she was actually taking her side), but with Victor standing beside her. Some characters misdeeds live on forever and others are forgotten. Oh well, I'm just rambling because it's late and I should be in bed. |
