I have been reading for the last several weeks on more than one thread that this person doesn't like this or that person doesn't like that...I for one think the writers are doing a wonderful job of creating drama, conflict, contraversy, and everything a "SOAP OPERA" is suppost to do!!! I wonder, if everybody got their happy ending, how many people would want to watch? why would you watch? just so you can make sure the flowers are blooming...i mean come on, we watch to see how our favorite characters will work out their problems, and hope it all goes our way, but when it doesn't, you shouldn't get mad and threaten to quite watching, or trying to get everybody to turn off their tv's so the rateings will fall, thats just silly!! ok, well thats my piece..what do you think?

I think that Y&R has always had good story lines. It's just that now it still does but a lot of them are very evil and a lot of the characters on the show have mental disorders. But I can't quit watching because I have watched it for so long that it has become a matter of habit or I could probably say an addiction. I believe that now it is a lot different than what it used to be but like you said if everything was all wonderful with everyone it would be boring. I guess that most of us are drawn to a show that has both good and bad in it. I also find that a lot of the story lines are very intreging and so I can't wait to see what's going to happen next.

I don't want things to "come out my way"...I LOVE suspense. I just wish there weren't so many MAJOR story lines going on at the same time. Needs to be on a lot longer than an hour so we can see more than a few minutes of each s/l. I'm not going to stop watching but wish it could be narrowed down a little.

I've been happily watching the show for 21 years and the last few months, I've been very disappointed. One of the things I've always liked about the show was that it was believable and if it was crazy drama, the writers still found a way to make sense out of it. Over the past few months, there have been so many loopholes in the story lines, it's extremely unbelievable, and they need to bring life back into the show!!! The reason Y & R currently has so many fans is due to the excellent writing of the past that made us HAVE to watch every day. The writers of Y & R need to bring back that urgency to WATCH!!!

I am glad that someone likes this crap. I give them 2 thumbs down. This soap isn't making any sense anymore. It is sad that you have DNA testing but you can not rely on them. Why all the evil, bad, manipulative people get to be with the ones they love, but the only two people on this show that NEVER EVER hurt anyone can not? this soap sucks!
Why do I watch, you may ask? Because I am hoping beyond hope that the writers get back on thier 'game' and do better! But I use my FF button non-stop!

I don't think people necessarily want a happy ending all the time. I think people want the story lines to half way make sense. I know it is a soap opera but still a lot of the story lines are beyond belief and dark. I for one have problems with hurting children I see enough of that on the news. The story line with MJ hurting Summer and Adam killing Ashley's baby is over the top for me. The couple swapping is to much the Phyllis/Jack/Sharon/Nick storyline has gone on way to long. I am sure most viewers are intelligent people and some of these explanations and the DNA stuff is not any way near credible. I am sure some of the viewers including me feel like they have insulted our intelligence. Point blank the show needs to make more sense.

I tend to agree with you on this for the most part. My mom is the same way as many other viewers. She wants everything to be cake and roses. I on the other hand love the drama and the not so perfect outcome of the storylines. The only thing I do not care for right now is the Adam hurting Ashley story. That has gone to far and is...well..SICK. Bottom line is that this is a soap opera. Things are not supposed to be perfect. That is what keeps me tuning in

ITA! If life was a bed of roses for everyone the show would be boring! We watch because we love the drama! I find it sooo funny that all these people are threatning to quit watching the show but I see them back in the message board talkin about that days show. If so many people arent watching why is YNR still #1 in ratings???????

i do agree that the s/l are getting a little far fetched...but maybe the writers had to do something insane just to tie all the s/l's together...cause if you think about it..this is the first time that they have gotten this carried away with so many different explosive s/l's at the same time, who knows maybe they will all tie together, and suprize us all!!! just keep watching!!

I think the problem for most is times have changed. 20 years ago a baby switch story line, baby daddy drama, etc- would've been fun and you'd never know the true answer. Now, if they didn't take DNA tests we'd complain and say- come on, they can take a DNA test and figure this out. The problem is- with the DNA answers that should be the end of the storyline. But as we know with soap operas (what keeps them interesting)- daddys/families/relations change all of the time. I'd oddly rather see discrepencies in DNA tests, etc- than never see a drama filled family swap anyday
As far as storylines being crazy now- throughout Y&R's history- crazy storylines have always existed. People being locked in birdcages anyone? It's a soap- it's farfetched- and I love it!

The writing for this show is sloppy and lazy. They are regurgitating the same s/l, tearing down core characters for no good reason, and just throwing stuff together to see what sticks with total disregard for the history of the character. If you think this is quality writing then to each their own, but IMO this is garbage and I don't think that I am in the minority in thinking so.

You had a nice post but I wonder how long you have been watching? "Back in the day" this soap was written with passion and drama, some of it was not as real as I would like but it was just so much better than it is today. S/l go on far too long, need to come to a conclusion on a lot of these today and too much is not believable at all and etc. Us older viewers would like some changes. Some people never get punished and we want changes, does that sound familar? lolol

That one of the things that really frost my butt. This DNA stuff sucks on this show. How many times in real life could the best crook get away with crap like is on this show. Too much fanasty with important issues!!!!!
