BIOGRAPHY

Born Hans Gudegast in Kiel, Germany, during the Second World War, he was an outstanding athlete who excelled in track-and-field events and won himself a scholarship to Montana State University. He traveled to Los Angeles in hopes of finding a distributor for a documentary film that he and a friend had made, but instead found that his accent and debonair looks helped him win parts as an actor. First appearing with his real name in many supporting roles in both television and film, he changed his name, at a studio's insistence.

Hans was now known as Eric Braeden. Eric continued to work in TV, movies, Broadway and theatre, for the next decade. He continued to take the odd role in film while his portrayal of 'Victor Newman' shot him to the top in daytime stardom!
