Betty tells Daniel that it may be a good thing that he and Alexis work side by side. Daniel informs her that it was never easy working directly beside Alex because he always had to pull out on top. Daniel and Alexis meet with Wilhelmina to inform her that they are both Editors-in-Chief at Mode. Daniel informs Wilhelmina that she is still the creative director. When he begins to claim what duties he will handle, Alexis interrupts and insists that she doesn’t want anything to do with the business. Daniel leaves the room and Wilhelmina rushes over to Alexis. She tells her that she has to take what belongs to her and that she can’t leave Mode. Wilhelmina then tells her that she should take her office and operate from there. Marc panics when Wilhelmina drags him down to their new office. She insists that it will be temporary. Just long enough for Alexis and Daniel to kill each other! Marc gets a text message on his cell phone informing him that his mother is in the building.
Marc’s mother (Ms. Jean Wiener) stops at the desk to see Amanda and tells her that she can’t believe how she broke her little boy’s heart with all of her drug and sex addictions! Amanda notices Betty walking down the hall and pulls her over to their meeting. She tells Jean that Betty is his new girlfriend! Betty laughs and starts to tell her that Marc is gay, but before she can get the words out, he grabs her and kisses her on the lips! Marc then rushes to the bathroom and washes out his mouth. Betty tells him that she can’t believe that his mother doesn’t notice how “sparkly” he is. He then begs her to help him and play along. Amanda notices that Betty’s cell phone is ringing. When she sees that it is Ignacio on the phone, she tells Mrs. Wiener that she should answer and inform him that she and Marc are dating. Amanda then joyfully rushes over to tell Marc and Betty the news that they have dinner plans with Betty’s family. Marc tells Betty that if she helps him he will tell her information that will help save Daniel’s job!
Icing On the Cake
Grace and Daniel chit chat in bed before they start the day. Daniel panics when she informs him that she needs to speak with his mother. He tells her that Claire has gone away and that she probably won’t be able to find her. Daniel then rushes out and sends Claire off to a hotel to stay. He instructs her not to talk to anyone! Amanda tells Marc that she met designer Oswald Lorenzo the other night at a party. She tells him the story of how she fought another girl for his affections at the social. Amanda opens a packaged delivery and finds a dress that Lorenzo has sent to her. She is thrilled to find out that he has named the dress after her “The Amanda”. Amanda grabs the tiny silver dress and runs to change into it. She later emerges in the dress and it fits as tight as a mermaid outfit. Amanda struggles to move around the office but refuses to take it off. Alexis goes to see Wilhelmina and tells her that she has to at least give Daniel a chance since he was willing to turn his back on their father. Alexis gets upset and leaves when she sees the news coverage of Grace Chin defending her father. Constance visits Ignacio and continues to pour on the charm. She wrestles him down and steals a kiss.
Alexis interrupts the board meeting and yells to Daniel that they have a big problem! She tells Daniel that Grace Chin has never lost a case before and that Bradford is a murderer. She blames Bradford for causing their mother to drink hand sanitizer, for making Daniel feel miserable all those years and for preferring that she be dead vs. standing there in a dress. As Marc listens from around the corner, Daniel tells his sister that he doesn’t know anything about Grace Chin. Amanda rushes over to get the scoop and falls flat on her face because the dress is way too tight. Betty arrives for her orthodontist appointment and tells him that she snapped the wire while eating a bagel. He fixes the problem and she promises to be more careful. She jokingly tells him that he may have to have dinner with her to ensure that she doesn’t eat anything too dangerous. Her plan works and he accepts her proposal.
Betty gives Claire the credit card so that she can leave the country. Claire tells her that she watched the man she loved love someone else and it killed her. She makes her promise not to make the same mistake that she did. Betty sits with Claire on the couch and tells her that she needs to be strong right now and that running away isn’t the answer. Claire calls the police and turns herself in for murdering Faye. The cops swarm the house and take Claire into custody. Another package arrives for Amanda. She tells the delivery guy that she has rubber burns all over her body from that dress and that she doesn’t want anymore gifts. She gets excited though when he tells her that this time it is a hat. She opens the box and puts the rubber cone shaped hat on her head. The delivery guy leaves and meets up with one of Amanda’s enemies in the hallway. The two of them laugh because the hat makes is a joke that they have worked up to play on her.
DERAILED
Henry stops by to see Betty later at her desk and thanks her for getting Charlie to go out. He asks her if this is going to be weird, but she lies to him and insists that it will be fine. Amanda tells Betty that it is time to cease her inner Mode girl. Amanda suggests that she find Charlie’s biggest weakness and exploit it! Grace Chin finally arrives at Mode to meet with Daniel. Daniel thinks that he may be off the hook when Grace sticks to business. He thinks that she doesn’t remember him. She then tells him that she is the only one that can win this case. She then tells him that she is not going to take the case and that the only reason she came here was to see the look on his face when she rejected him. Daniel insists that this is about his father and wants to know if there is anything that he can do to make this up to her. Marc follows Wilhelmina’s orders and goes to hang out with Christina. He ends up helping her with the dress for Sarah Jessica Parker. The two of them go round-n-round trying to put together a dress with whatever they can find.....everything from fabric to office supplies!
I'm Coming Out
Betty stresses out that Fashion Week is finally here. Hilda lounges around in a depression over her job crisis while Justin enthusiastically explains to his mother and grandfather what Fashion Week is. Daniel goes to see his father in his office. Bradford tells him that he has really proven himself the past few months. He informs Daniel that tomorrow after the show he plans on announcing his intentions for Daniel to take over the company one day. Marc brags to Amanda that he earns extra money each year by tipping off a mall based chain about the designs for Fashion Week. She thinks it is genius but Marc still won’t let her in on the action. Wilhelmina tells Fabio that she expects to be named as the new Editor In chief soon. Fabio shares her beauty secret using ducks but Wilhelmina insists that she won’t need that for years. As soon as Fabio leaves, Wilhelmina orders Marc to research the duck miracle!
Marc sends Justin to take care of Wilhelmina while he works with Amanda on their scheme. Daniel tries to assure Betty that she is doing a great job and tells her to take the time to enjoy all of this. Alexis listens in on the conversation and tells him that he is not the Daniel Meade that she has always heard of. He asks to know where she got her information and she tells him that she used to date his brother. They continue to talk and she asks him if he misses his brother. Daniel tells her that it was a complicated relationship but he is relieved to finally be out of his brother’s shadow. Alexis leans closer and tells him that she is certain that he is still in it. She tells him that she has a secret to tell him. She whispers in his ear and Daniel backs up in shock. He asks her who has put her up to saying this. Alexis tells him to look deep into her eyes because that is about the only thing that they could not change. He stumbles on his words and tells her that she is making this up, but she asks him if he remembers the tattoo that she got on her leg back when. She raises her dress up showing her thigh and Daniel drops his champagne on the floor. Alexis asks him if he is ready for the show, then turns around and walks away.
In or Out
The next morning Betty and her family start the day with breakfast. Hilda gives Betty advice on men while getting ready to go job hunting. She kids Betty about Henry at Mode, but tells her that Walter is the kind of guy she can settle down with. Betty meets up with Daniel on the way to work and reminds him that he can do this......he can go to work and survive if he runs into Sofia. Wilhelmina starts taking charge, but is thrown into shock when Marc comes running in to tell them that Daniel is back. They become even more shocked when Betty arrives right behind him. Daniel has taken steps and utilized a self tanner (layered on thick) so that everyone will believe that he has been in Reno. Daniel takes Betty and Amanda in the office and tells them that they are both going to be his assistant. Hilda gets door after door slammed in her face on her job hunt. She makes it back home checks the messages on the machine. Someone has called thanking her for the cupcakes that her father made and insisted that there is money in them. Light bulbs start to go off in her head.
Betty tells Amanda that they have to build up Daniel’s confidence again. She has an idea and tells Amanda to put 8pm on his calendar for tonight! She goes to Christina and they begin to search for a new fling to take Daniel’s mind off of Sofia. Betty gets sidetracked when she sees her personal design that she made for fashion week. Hilda rushes in and tells her father that she now has her own company....Grandma Suarez’s’ Cupcakes! She says that a diner has agreed to sell them and that they need 100 by tomorrow! Bradford stops by to see Daniel and tells him that he needs to focus on fashion week. Betty takes Christina’s advice and contacts Gisele’s people to arrange a date for them. Marc tells Amanda that she needs to sabotage Betty and Daniel both to prove her loyalty to Wilhelmina. Mark rushes her to her office and shows her the secret bulletin board and that she is on the out list. Amanda tells him that she can’t do that to Daniel, but Marc insists that she has to do this! Daniel tells Betty that he is not ready to be set up with anyone yet. Betty tells him that this is exactly what the tabloids need to see...him on the arm of a supermodel! When Marc tells Amanda that Daniel will always choose Betty over her, she tells him that she is on the team that is staying! She picks up the phone and calls Gisele’s people (pretending to be Betty) and cancels the dinner plans for tonight!
