As the World Turns - As The World Turns Weekly Blog

Welcome to Kristi's weekly blog, "As The Week Turned", for the week ending September 5, 2008.

Can you believe that another Friday is here and it's time to dish and discuss our favorite and least favorite storylines? It seems like Monday was just yesterday but I guess that is what happens on short weeks! Only three show days this week, but still a lot to talk about so grab your discussion cap and let's chat!

First, let's talk Tennis! I know, I know, it's a popular sport. I actually enjoy watching it. But will all of the other options for running the matches - like ESPN! - why are our shows interrupted? I thought I'd give you guys my take, which comes from years working in the news business before coming to work here.

It's all about money. We may not like it, but sports sponsorships pay biiiiig bucks. Which means that anytime a network can capitalize on those extra revenue dollars, they will. The viewership may not be huge because of people being at work, but many will tune in online or Tivo to watch later. As long as the advertisers sign up, networks will run sports. Nothing we can do about it.

On the bright side? I think As The World Turns did the absolute best they could with only three days to work with. And, another bonus, at least these aren't local pre-emptions so we'll pick up right where the show left off on Monday. No weird scene changes or missing part of a storyline. We'll know exactly what is going on. Plus, at least this isn't the two-week-long Olympics! We're actually only missing two days, compared to the many, many days that were lost to NBC's primetime programming.

Okay, on to the show.

Is there a more boring storyline than Aaron/Alison/Chris? I know I'm kind of changing my tune a little bit because all the way through last week I was in support of the Allie/Aaron repairing. This story just feels like it's already been told. Plus, I'm sorry, but Holden trying to be the buttinsky who foils things just doesn't work. I don't buy him as the concerned parent at this point. If he were a concerned parent he wouldn't have had sex with Carly in an unlocked camp cabin - or on her couch with the door unlocked! - where anyone, including children, could have walked in on them. I think Holden is miserable and is trying to make everyone else miserable. But that is another paragraph. Back to Aaron/Alison.

To make this storyline work, the two of them need to spend time together. Not time with family, not superficial talk about what kind of a wedding they want to have. Have we even seen a hot kiss between the two of them? Has Aaron tried to seduce Alison? Has Alison even held Aaron's hand? Nope. They did have ice cream in Old Town, but a love story is not made out of ice cream. Unless the ice cream … wait, this is a family blog, I'll tone it down! There was more chemistry between Allie and the puppy this week than between Allie and Aaron, which spells disaster from the get-go. I'm not rooting for this wedding to take place. I'm not rooting for Chris to break things up. I'm rooting for it all to go away.

Soon.

The romance that is working for me? Lily and Mike. Ooooh! Hawt!!

All My Children - All My Children Weekly Blog

Welcome to Kristi's "Pondering Pine Valley" Column for the week ending September 5, 2008!

Another Friday has rolled around soap fans, and that means another week of angst and silliness is under our soap opera belts. Was it a good week for you? It was for me, so without further ado, let's put on our discussion caps and talk about what went right - and wrong! - in Pine Valley this week.

A couple of weeks ago I was all over Randi because she wasn't explaining enough about her past. Now that she's opened up a little bit, I find I'm changing my tune. I'm still not completely satisfied with her storyline but I am - slowly! - learning to like the character. I still don't understand why she is shutting out Carmen and, call me crazy, but there has to be more to their backstory than simple anger on Randi's part for being left behind. I have a feeling that something big and bad happened to Randi after Carmen flew the coop and my initial guess is that it is going to be some kind of sexual abuse storyline. You know what I'd really like though? A total change for Randi. I like that she's getting a second chance by working at Fusion, but since she opened up about being a foster child today and since we know she is still reeling from Carmen's abandonment, I'd really like to see her go to school and try to make changes for other children. I think she could be a great social worker, a good doctor and she's selling herself short by accepting the first receptionist job - fun as it may be! - that comes along!

All My Children began as a social issues show, or at least that was Agnes Nixon's vision. She wanted to tackle tough topics and tell real stories. What could be more real than a child from the system coming back and making changes in that system? I think it could be a great story and I think it's one that should be told.

Now that the tough stuff is out of the way, there are a lot of things cracking me up about show lately, namely Kendall. Especially since she isn't trying to be funny!

I find it hilarious - not ha-ha-funny but you-deserve-this-funny - that she's shut Zach out of her life for the past several months and now that he's made himself unavailable, she is nearly at a breakdown. If you think about it, she's been pushing Zach away ever since the one-nighter with Aidan; I really think this whole 'I have to fix Ryan and Greenlee' thinking isn't really about Ryan and Greenlee; it's about Kendall not being able to forgive herself for cheating on Zach. She can't forgive herself. Knowing his past, she doesn't know how he can forgive her and so she is sabotaging their relationship. At the same time, though, I find myself screaming at the screen every time she comes on. She isn't being a friend to anyone and has been called on that several times this week.

This one isn't so funny, but Kathy is really turning into a little troublemaker, isn't she? I did find something a little funny, though. How does a 6-year-old flip over a heavy ladder holding Krystal? That is way more weight than Kathy should be able to move - and no, I'm not saying Krystal is fat!

Erica takes the cake for hilarity this week and I do mean ha-ha-funny hilarity this week. It seems like every time she turns around she is being confronted with Jack and Carmen - was it priceless when she saw Carmen wearing Jack's shirt or what? - or Adam. I'm not sure which gets the most laughs, at least from me, though.

The Bold and the Beautiful - The Bold and the Beautiful Blog

B&B Breakdown for week of 9/1/08

It was a short week, but there was still quite a bit to talk about. Here’s my take on what happened…

Before I get into anything else, I have to start with Nick. Could he have picked a worse time to tell Bridget about Katie?! I mean, right after they have sex, with the sweat on their foreheads not even dry yet? Good God man, at least wait until you get showered and dressed to blow her world apart. And does he really think she’ll take it better after a lovely, romantic evening with him? He really should have just come to the house and laid it on the line instead of making her feel “alive and protected” first.

I loved Brooke slapping Katie! I know most of you think Brooke is being a hypocrite, and she is. She slept with two of Bridget’s husbands and got pregnant by one of them. She really should have said, “I completely understand. I too am powerless to resist Bridget’s men” and then they could have had a cup of tea (Brooke could have had something stronger) and compared notes. However, I cheered on the rage that went into the slap because I am so tired of Katie’s self-loathing. You know what, Katie? You did it. No one forced you to sleep with your best friend/niece’s man. Even if you were dying, you did it. Stop feeling sorry for yourself!

Now, on to Owen and Donna. I’m not sure how I feel about them. I don’t quite get Owen’s devotion to her. He’s known her for barely two months and he’s already saying things like, “I could have lost you.” It doesn’t sound right coming from him. I get that he wants to have sex with her, but this deep love he keeps professing is just kind of creepy. If I were Donna I would be more annoyed by, or afraid of, his smothering than turned on by it.

Days of Our Lives - Days Of Our Lives Weekly Blog!

These are the "DAYS" of last week...(September 2-5)

This week I get into a little bit of a rant, unlike most of my past "thoughts". This week I felt the show dragged on and I have a lot of unanswered questions. I'm also all over the place this week. Perhaps next week will be better, but for now, please bear with me!! Agree, disagree… this is only in fun, anyway!

The college folk are still in Paris and "Les" is nowhere to be found. Too bad. I liked that character. Most of you forget who he is, I know! Instead, we were subjected to a whack of girls that I could care less about and that we'll never see again. Am I alone in not enjoying this Paris storyline? I've enjoyed the scenes in and around the bistro, but otherwise I wish they'd go home! Melanie and Max shared their upbringings, which gave us more of a background on her (I missed some of this due to issues with my TV that day.) and we can see that she's also keeping a secret. Is it the same one that Nicole's still keeping? Are you still wondering if she's Nicole's daughter? Hopefully the build-up of what Trent really is hiding will have a massive pay-off. While I don't see a need for Melanie, I did like how feisty she was in these scenes with Max. When she's not ungrateful, she's kind of funny and lively. If they're planning on keeping her, I'd like to see them keep the sarcasm but lose the nasty edge.

Stefano was arrested… again, but I'm confused. He was sent to jail before Marlena induced his paralysis/"coma", so why was he let go? Since Salem is getting a mayor, I can only assume that he's behind this and is a "bad guy", pulling strings. Meh. I don't buy it but whatever. He's out, and we can't have our main villain rotting in jail. Besides, he's renovating the manse and I'm curious to see the results! Is he building another secret room?

Rewrites and Revolving Doors

While I can't say for certain, whenever I see a storyline ending too soon, whenever I'm confused about something, I assume they've rewritten it, forgotten what happened in the history of the show or that they're trying to cut short a storyline in favour of another that they feel will work better. After Ed Scott left, I noticed a change and found myself missing his work. Whenever a major player from behind the scenes leaves, the viewers can tell by the firings, hirings and major storyline changes. Case in point with Kristen Renton who plays Morgan Hollingsworth being given a pink slip. Storyline dictated. Linden Ashby (Paul) has also been let go. Paul's going to jail and the show isn't pursuing anything with Phorgan. I liked her and it'll be sad to see her go. I had hopes of finding out more about her family and seeing another sorority house storyline and perhaps find out where her relationship was headed with Philip. Poor Philly! I could think of many other characters that I'd prefer to see gone rather than her. When there is too large of a cast, too many days and weeks go by when we don't see them on canvas and it makes for a 'choppier' storyline, and besides that, Matt and I agree (Matthew Purvis who does the DAYS Thoughts for Soap Opera Fan) that Morgan's one of the few younger girls who doesn't annoy us at all. I'm sure Kristen will get another job without any issues, but I will miss her. Will you? Vote on your thoughts on her exit here. As I add this part to the column, the majority will miss her. We've got 549 people who say they'd like to see her stay with Philip and another 150 who want to see her stay and learn more about her family. This, out of 1038 votes so far!

School's Out Forever?

School should have started by now, so why aren't the campus crew back on campus? I'm confused. Are they all finished with their 4 year degrees?

Dansea

I have to wonder if Chelsea and Daniel are over. I polled our readers and 58% of them said Chelsea should forgive Daniel only for his omission. Do you remember? The majority of people didn't like Chelsea with Daniel since day one. They thought Daniel was much too old for Chelsea. Their age gap has never bothered me in the least. He's so much of a kid himself. Still, I had no time to invest in them and they haven't really been together much, so I'm fine with them being apart. Daniel admits he loves Chelsea though, so there's always a chance of wounds healing. Chelsea took off for Paris. Let's get this out of the way first. Where did she get the money to go on an impromptu trip to France? Does her co-op position pay? And just how much? I graduated from University a few years ago and mine didn’t pay. I had to work four jobs, walk to Uni both ways, uphill… Anyway, Daniel's feeling pretty bad already when Hope decided to stick her nose where it didn't belong (Reminded me of the Shelle/Philip triangle) and asked Daniel why Chelsea left. If Chelsea wanted Hope to know, she'd tell her. Dan said it and I agreed. Stay out of it, Hope. Teaser for you, Chelsea will see Nick and Melanie kissing and will become jealous. The plot thickens.

Kate

Kate's been coughing an awful lot. We're moving into a new storyline with this. That's all I can tell you. I'm seeing a lot of "hate" posts directed at Kate! It's nothing new. Either you love her or hate her. I love her. I love to hate her, and the actress is so completely different from her character, it's insane! Kate's probably the only character who has stayed true to herself all these years. She's strong, she doesn't need a man… has a job, and has her own issues. She gets herself into wicked trouble all the time, so she's entertaining! And the actress is great. But, I tend to wonder if the show will bring Kate and Daniel together. Certainly, those who feel Chelsea's too young for Daniel would enjoy seeing these two together?

Paul Hollingsworth broke out of John's prison. How? Wouldn't it have been great to see him breaking out and then have him hiding in the shadows before he met Morgan? Instead, it felt rushed along, and I felt cheated, as though they were tying up the storyline just to get on with it already. It worked. I now don't care about his storyline, but I am curious. Who was John talking with on the phone about Paul's escape? Couldn't have been Rolf. John has no other friends and nobody but Ava knew that Paul was locked up in the mansion. Or did someone else? Any ideas?

The Young and the Restless - Young and the Restless Weekly Blog: Restless Rant!

Week of September 1st - 5th

Wow! It was a very short week for The Young and the Restless, with only three episodes, but they sure made them count! I am most intrigued by the pace of the action - things seem to be happening at break-neck speed, which I happen to prefer. It's almost aggravating now to watch a scene where they are repeating things that have already been said or done. Yes, Y&R has succeeded in shortening my attention span! So without further ado - here's my view of the mini-week!

Chloe/Cane/Esther: We all had the weekend to come to terms with the fact that Chloe is Kate Valentine, and that, for some bizarre reason, no one had recognized her previously. At the Chancellor Mansion, however, all was still fresh. Chloe/Kate boo-hooed about not being good enough, Cane steamed and snorted and paced, Jill raved about lawyers and annulments, and Esther, being Esther, jumped up and down with glee and even hugged Jill! Hilarious! Best line of the week was Jill referring to Esther as "The Oracle of Foothill Road" - brilliant! This reveal added so many dimensions to the storyline that it's mind-boggling. But don’t come asking me for sympathy Little Miss Brat, after the way you treated your sweet mother, Esther! Slap! How about Chloe anyway, showing up at the Mansion and demanding a room! I had really thought this whole plot was about landing Cane for herself, but given that she moved out so quickly, perhaps it really was just the fortune she was after! Nice kiss for the Lily/Cane fans this week, but somewhat odd - the reveal about Chloe's identity really doesn't change anything for them - they already made their choices based on the fact that she had deliberately trapped him, didn't they? Why is she still hanging around? And speaking of 'suckers for punishment'…

Nikki: Stop groveling! Please! That was so embarrassing the way she threw herself at Victor in Mexico, begging him to come home, sobbing that she loved him and to just let her help him. And on and on… I couldn't stand it! Be relieved that he's alive, fine, but has this woman learned nothing over all of these years?! One would think that between Victor's condescending treatment of her, and the horror that was David, she might have developed something of a thicker skin! Yeesh!

The Letters: I thought all of the letters were bang on! They contained all of the things you've always secretly wanted Victor to break down and say out loud, but you knew he never, ever would! I loved how he told Victoria that he always cared what she thought - I've truly seen that over the years! I also loved how he told Nick that he is a much better father than he was to him - that is so true!

Jack: I have a feeling that change is in the air for Smilin' Jack. There is tension with his wife, tension at work, a deal with the devil, ahem, Gloria, in the works. When did Jack become such a proficient writer by the way? He seems to be writing all of the features completely on his own now! By the way, I love Jack in 'wheeling and dealing' mode! Don't you?!

Daniel/Amber: I can see now that this 'imaginary' boyfriend, Liam (which incidentally, is a derivative of the name William), that Amber has been carrying on about, is going to turn out to be real. Daniel is making a total horse's butt of himself proclaiming otherwise. I'm excited.

One Life To Live - One Life to Live Weekly Blog

Welcome to Amy's
"One Life in a Week!" (Sept 2-5)

Even though we didn't get to see a new episode on Monday, September 1, 2008, I hope you all enjoyed the long holiday weekend and were able to dive back into Llanview on Tuesday!

Todd and Marty as parents - again!

We started out the week with a bang, and I about lost it when Todd suggested to Marty that she help him raise his grandchild - their grandchild! I found myself screaming at the screen yelling, "Marty, think hard… children… a child… Cole… Todd… Starr… It's your grandchild!" While most think that Marty will lash out at Todd after finding out the truth, I'm wondering if she won't look at his actions through a doctor's eye and totally understand why he did the things he did when she was under his care! But again, is he doing it to ease the guilt of his past, or is Todd really falling for his victim? I'm totally confused at where the show is going with this one, but I can't say that I'm not enjoying the ride - especially now that Marty appears to be having the same feelings! Boy, talk about what a major heartbreak this is going to be when she learns the truth!

John McBain is a man on a mission!

It was nice seeing John call in a favor for once - and who better to call than the cute computer geek turned cop, Oliver Fish! One thing I was shocked to see was John taking a break from work to meet up with Blair for a serenade at Capricorn! Hearing Kassie DePaiva (Blair) sing again onscreen was a treat in itself, but I really like how they tied it in with her current romance with John. After all, he should be able to appreciate good music, as his mother, Eve, sang at a cabaret for years - and still does as far as I know!

Marcie and her choices...

While some may feel sorry for Marcie, and agree that this is her only chance to have another child, I'm totally on Michael's side with this one and can't believe she would throw her love for the man, and her marriage, down the tubes to raise Starr's baby. Being a mother myself, I sympathize with her situation, but I still stick by my word and think she should choose Michael first. Maybe she'll have second thoughts after having caught a glimpse of Michael with Layla at Capricorn! I can't say I'm too keen on that coupling - if it happens - but Brody and Layla together… That would be interesting!

Todd's apology - and motives!

Okay, so we all know that Todd's heartfelt apology at the birthing class was a total fake, and that he has more up his sleeve than an attempt to make everyone think he's sorry. He has this great plan to raise Starr's baby, so now I'm just wondering how will Todd go about it? Will he borrow Jessica's secret room to store Marcie after he kidnaps Starr's baby from her? Or will he think really far ahead and kidnap his own daughter before the birth! If the latter is the case, it reminds me of another Manning birth - When Spencer held Margaret in an abandoned warehouse and delivered little Sam Manning with the help of Paige Miller! Again, bravo to the show for keeping us on our toes!

The Young and the Restless - Former Y&R Star Kimberlin Brown and Project Golf!

Kimberlin Brown may have played one of the most dastardly female villains ever known to daytime drama, Sheila Carter, but in real life the actress has a big heart, which she demonstrates aptly in her role as International Ambassador for Project Golf 2014!

Last seen as Sheila on The Young and the Restless in 2006, Kimberlin has since involved herself with this worthwhile cause, helping to launch the project's third chapter recently. The Kingswood Chapter is located in Georgia, South Africa, and hopes to include more than two thousand young female golfers, many of them coming from underprivileged backgrounds.

Kimberlin has not only worked tirelessly to promote Project Golf, but she and her family have been involved in conducting fundraising efforts to raise money for it as well!

In character as the wicked Sheila, Kimberlin crossed over to Y&R's sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, numerous times over the years. Soaps.com would love to see her back on either show as she always creates tons of tension, drama and controversy!

Bravo to Kimberlin for her efforts toward promoting Project Golf 2014!
