Miguel watches through the window. The fact that Fox wants to refuse treatment is proof that he’s faking it. When Kay walks out, he grabs her. He tells her that her troubles are over now. Fox will scheme to find a way out fo his lies, or he’ll die. ‘If you’re mother could hear you now...’ Kay wonders, shaking her head. She tells him to actually do something useful and take Maria home so that she can stay with her husband. Going back into the room, she tells Fox that she will stay there all night with him. ‘I would do anything to make you feel better,’ she says. ‘Anything?’ Julian leaves to give them some privacy and Kay lays in bed next to Fox. She just wants to listen to the beat of his heart, but he can only think about impotency. ‘We have true love, that’s all we need,’ she says but he just stares blankly.
At the hospital, Julian finds Miguel watching Kay and Fox. As Kay kisses her husband better, Julian suggests that Kay has other things on her mind than Miguel. The married couple hold hands and Fox says that he could never have made it through this if he didn’t know in his heart that she was waiting for him. Miguel is sick of watching this. Julian reminds him that he’ll be on trial soon and the jury always decides the way the Crane family wishes. Eve walks down the hall and into Fox’s room to check on him. Kay leaves and Fox asks her to bring Maria back for a visit.
Back at the hospital, Eve is surprised that Fox is recovering so quickly. He wants to get out, but she says that he can’t go anywhere until they go through all of the treatments. These treatments aren’t easy and have nasty side effects like extreme discomfort and pain. Julian and Fox start to worry. Julian suggests that they should go to Switzerland and do the treatments there, but Eve won’t hear of it. ‘But it’s so restful in Switzerland,’ Fox mutters. He decides that Kay shouldn’t be around to watch while he goes through the treatment, but Eve says their presence will give him the strength he needs. She leaves him a brochure and he tries to get out of bed, but his father stops him. Kay and Maria arrive for a visit and Miguel stands in the doorway watching. Eve soon returns and says the treatments can start tomorrow. Julian and Fox try to smile. Eve explains that poisoning a tumor is like hitting a pin with a sledgehammer. He’ll lose sleep, hair and become impotent. Fox is horrified. Kay looks through the glass while Miguel continues to stare at her.
At the hospital, Paloma has walked in one Julian and Fox talking about their plot. She came to get his statement but, from what she heard, it might not be necessary. She begins to question him, though he can only speak in a whisper. He’s sorry to tell her that her brother, Miguel, drove him down and left him for dead. Julian tells Paloma to tell the DA to throw the book at Miguel.
In the corridor, Miguel continues to claim that he’s innocent, but Kay now believes that he is a monster. She’s sick of his conspiracy theories; no one had more to gain from getting Fox out of the way than him. He tells her that Fox will likely get a miracle cure as soon as he’s in prison. Kay doesn’t listen; she is starting to blame herself for everything. He repeats that he only wants to be with her and Maria; he’s a victim of impersonators. She needs to listen to her heart. But Kay won’t believe him this time; he’s lied to her too many times and demands that he leave her alone. She walks away as Paloma comes out. He starts telling her that he’s being set up. Miguel and Julian overhear this and are happy to see Miguel is losing everything. Kay comes into Fox’s room with food and he asks her how Maria is and tells her that they’ll be together for the rest of their lives.
At the hospital, Miguel tries convincing Paloma that he didn’t run Fox down; the evidence is overwhelming though. He’s sure that Fox and Julian are framing him. Meanwhile, in Fox’s room, Kay blames herself for everything that happened. Fox tells her that it’s not her fault. Now, she believes that Miguel must have just snapped when she actually got married. Julian sends Kay out to get some food for Fox. Alone, Fox confesses to his father that he did ask Spike to run him down, but didn’t expect this. Julian tells him that Kay seems sure that Miguel is really guilty now and he had Dr. Gasparro come in and ‘prove’ that he had a terminal illness. Fox loves Kay enough that this has all been worth it. Miguel should be sent away for a long time. ‘If no one finds out what we’ve done,’ Fox says as Paloma walks in. They stare at her, she says that she came to take his statement, but, from what she’s heard, it might not be necessary. Simultaneously, in the hallway, Miguel is trying to convince Kay that it’s all a set up. She’s sick of hearing this and slaps him. She is now sure that he is the one that tries to kill Fox.
Ivy, wearing her rather fetching Valentine’s outfit, begins threatening Kay again for betraying her son and putting him on his death bed. Julian promises that he won’t let their son die. He remembers Spike telling him that he ran Fox down because that’s what he wanted. ‘If Fox dies, so will you Spike,’ Julian promises to himself. Some nurses stream out of Fox’s room and inform them that Fox is still alive, but is critical. Ivy stops Kay from going in until she tells her that she has to make Fox believe that she loves him and will never leave him; that is the only way that he will get better. Kay enters and sits by Fox’s side. She tells him that she loves him and knows that he only wanted to make her and Maria happy. She just wants the chance to make things up to him. ‘I need you,’ she says tearfully as Fox’s fingers begin to move and he wakes up. Julian and Ivy rush over to the bed. Fox remembers being run down. ‘Did you see who was driving the car?’ After a long pause, Fox says that it was Miguel. Ivy stomps off to call the DA and Kay tries to suppress her mixed feelings.
In the hospital corridor, Julian is on the phone with Judge Reilly. He pressures him with blackmail to do his bidding regardless of what Theresa wants. ‘She’ll never know what hit her,’ he smirks. Meanwhile, in Fox’s hospital room, Kay kisses Miguel. She backs off, afraid that he might have a sense of what’s going on. Miguel doesn’t care though and won’t stop. As they continue kissing, Fox’s heart rate goes up dramatically until the alarm goes off. A nurse rushes in followed by Julian. ‘You bastard! You’re trying to kill my son again!’ Kay tries to keep Julian away from Fox until the alarm stops and Fox’s heart rate drops. Miguel continues to protest his innocence. Julian demands that he stay away from his son and his wife. After Miguel leaves, Julian tells Kay that Miguel will be going to prison and Fox’s coma is all her fault. She isn’t bothered by his attacks and still refuses to believe that Miguel slept with Charity. Julian thinks that, deep down, she is sure that it did happen. ‘If you can’t believe your own eyes my dear than you are a fool,’ he says as she gulps. But Kay’s not a fool; anything is possible with money. He’s not impressed by her scepticism and tells her that he saw Miguel and Charity kissing just last night. Miguel is using her now because she may soon be a rich widow. She can’t accept that idea and walks out. ‘You’ll see Kay,’ he says glumly before going to his son’s side and encouraging him to wake up.
Miguel stands outside Fox’s room at the hospital. He eavesdrops on Kay promising a comatose Fox that she will stay with him. Miguel refuses to believe what she’s saying; she must truly want to be with him, he is the man she loves. Kay tells Fox that she doesn’t believe that Miguel tried to kill him, but she will find out who it was and make them pay. Eve arrives and encourages Kay to keep talking to Fox like he’ll come out of it. Kay admits that she doesn’t know who she wants to be with anymore. She can’t accept that Miguel did this to Fox and wonders why they haven’t even looked for other suspects. How can she chose when she loves them both? Eve tells her that she’s going to have to make a decision or she’ll turn everyone’s lives upside down.
Elsewhere in the hospital, Pilar asks Miguel if Fox is getting worse. He tells her that he was listening to Kay talking to Fox about how much she loves him. Pilar tells him that he should have walked in and taken her into his arms— he has to fight for her! He goes after Kay and stops her before she can go back in to Fox. ‘You have to be with me,’ he says. She enters Fox’s room and Miguel follows her, refusing to leave. He swears that he didn’t try to kill Fox or sleep with Charity. She has to decide who is truly in her heart. When she does, she literally imagines Miguel standing in her heart, bathed in a pink glow, telling her that he is the only one there. ‘It’s you,’ she cries as they kiss.
