Even if Ethan never knows Theresa is alive, he will never love Gwen because he fell deeply in love with Theresa. Sure he cares for Gwen, but not for more than a friend. He just tries to make himself love her because he believes Theresa is gone for good. So I'm not really worried. People on this show always marry, then cheat, and then divorce or widow.
