Many feel guilty about Shaun, Jessica confides her fears to Brody, and Marty is ready to move forward with John...
Greg approaches everyone in the hospital waiting room and relays news that Shaun isn't going to wake up then says, "I'm so sorry."As Destiny objects with, "What are you saying? He's dead? You killed him," Greg explains that Shaun is alive, but when he had to be opened up again he went into cardiac arrest - and is now in a coma! Destiny starts screaming, and beating Greg's chest, when he sadly says Shaun may never wake up - and that he did everything he could. Greg promises to take the family to see Shaun as soon as he can, but Destiny continues to blame Greg then rushes off! Across the room, Nora and Rachel watch as Greg's parents question Greg, who tries to explain how he pulled the fragment out but a piece fell off. "I was afraid to leave it there," Greg says then listens as his mother demands to know why this had to happen now, for the first time in Greg's career, with his brother! Crying, and filled with guilt, Greg tries to comfort them, but even though Mr. Evans believes Greg did all he could, Mrs. Evans continues to doubt him - until Greg rushes off in hysterics!
Rachel goes to Greg, and as he blames himself, she reminds him that if he hadn't operated, Shaun would be dead. "Knowing my brother," Greg says about Shaun being in a coma," he'd rather be dead." Greg walks away… Rachel follows and begs Greg not to blame himself, but Greg cries, "I wanted to be the one to make it right! The great God Evans can do no wrong!" Rachel screams back, "Your brother knew you'd do everything to save his life," but Greg reminds her that she wouldn't let him operate on Matthew! Over a bit more bickering, Rachel suggests, "How about you deal with what's really going on here… You're scared to death that he'll never wake up, and it's breaking your heart." As Greg starts to overturn chairs, a security guard tries to restrain him, but Greg, breaks free and rushes off, leaving Rachel's heart breaking for him - and his brother…
Matthew follows Destiny and tries to comfort her, but Destiny still thinks Greg could have fixed Shaun - and says how much Shaun trusted him! Matthew doesn't give up and says that sometimes the best isn't good enough - and that you have to take risks in life. Destiny remembers how she idolized Greg, and even minimized Shaun, then fears she'll never have the chance to tell Shaun that she didn't mean any of it! "I can't lose him, I need him to wake up," Destiny cries then falls to the floor. Matthew looks on, wanting to comfort her, then eases his way out of his wheelchair, onto the floor, then places a hand on Destiny's shoulder.
In with Brody, Jessica's assured by a doctor that Brody is stable, but he needs to do surgery to be sure there was no metal from the stabbing left behind. Brody promises Jessica that he's going to be fine then Jessica brings about how she lost Nash - and how she thought she was going to lose him too. Jessica talks about him being in the academy, on his way to being a cop, and expresses, "I don't ever want to get that call," but before Brody can comfort her, Bo, Natalie and Clint join them, and Bo offers him an immediate job - as a cop! Bo leaves, but Clint and Natalie stay and boast about how brave Brody is, as Jessica's face falls with fear.
Once alone, Jessica admits that she thought she'd have more time to talk Brody out of becoming a cop. Though Brody offers to decline Bo's job, Jessica insists he take it - because he's good at what he does - and is surprised that Brody would give up the opportunity, just because of her. Jessica refuses to let Brody give up a job that he loves, but Brody cries that all he wants is a family then makes Jessica promise to let him know if the job ever gets to be too much for her. "Then we'll make a change," Brody says, as Jessica agrees.
At the station, Todd takes a call, telling Tea that Starr and Hope are fine, then John brings them in. Cole quickly takes his girls in his arms then Starr tells them what happened while she was captive. As Starr cries, and worries about Shaun, John tries to reassure her, but Todd blames John for everything - for using Cole to get to the drug dealers. Starr snaps then reminds Todd that he almost got her killed - until Marty interrupts to remind everyone to be grateful that no one was hurt worse!
Just then, Bo appears to report that Shaun is in a coma - and may never come out. Starr blames herself, because she asked Shaun to save Hope, but everyone eases her guilt then Cole, Starr and Hope leave with Todd and Blair. Marty watches, along with Bo, as John walks away - then Marty follows him…
Back at the mansion, sitting on the stairs, Todd remembers how he treated Shaun, but Blair tells Todd what happened to Shaun wasn't his fault then tries to joke with him by saying, "You annoy a lot of people, but we still love you." Todd gets up to leave, saying, "Tea's waiting for me," but looks back at Blair before leaving the mansion.
In the living room, Starr and Cole blame themselves for what happened to Shaun but are thankful to be together again.
Marty goes to John's apartment to make sure he's okay, but John blames himself for what's happened to Shaun. Marty reminds John of all he's accomplished, takes his hand, and vows never to let him forget that he saved her son, her granddaughter and her mother then says, "I'm staying the night." John leads Marty to his bedroom, and the two begin to make love!
In his office, Bo smiles when Nora walks in to cheer him up with a takeout bag from Rodi's…
