Soaps.com regrets having to deliver this sad news today. Former One Life to Live actress Dody Goodman passed away this past Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the age of ninety-three as a result of a long illness.

Born on October 28, 1914, although starting her daytime career on Search For Tomorrow in 1968 as Althea Franklin, Dody went on to appear on Texas as Mavis Cobb in 1982 then ultimately found her next character on One Life to Live, first as Molly McDermott in 1985 then again as a St. Ann’s nun, Sister Michael Marie, in 2001.

Over the span of her impressive acting career, some of Dody’s film appearances include “Black Ribbon”, “Family Reunion: A Relative Nightmare,” the Vanilla Ice hit “Cool As Ice” as Mae McCallister, “Max Dugan Returns,” “Splash” and probably most notoriously her character Blanche Hodel, the zany secretary at Rydell High in Grease and Grease 2!

Soaps.com wants to send our deepest sympathies to those who knew and loved Dody Goodman. She added a bit of laughter to every character she played, and her humor will live on through the many marks she made in the entertainment business today.

It was nice that Soaps.Com remembered Dody, even several days late, but you failed to mention many of her major credits. She began as a dancer on several Broadway musicals and originated the role of Violet in WONDERFUL TOWN. She was a guest on the second night of the Jack Paar Tonight Show and so impressed Mr. Paar that he made her a regular. She toured the country starring in ONCE UPON A MATTRESS. And her major soap credit was playing Martha Shumway, the mother of MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN. Her voice opened each episode and she was one of the few actresses/characters who remained with the series until the end. In the last season, she played opposite Tab Hunter!

In addition to playing a nun on OLTL, she played a nun in several productions of the musical NUNSENSE and its various sequals, eventually moving up to the role of Mother Superior.

According to reports she had no living family and died alone at a nursing home. She and her unique talent will be missed.

Hello, I need to respond to Cynical Bill. I was a dear friend of Dody's. I just want to set the record straight. I don't know where you got your sources. I have not seen one report that Dody had no family and that she died alone in a nursing home. For the record, MOST obits (especially the AP obit) mentioned Dody's surviving relatives. Also, Dody died Sunday AM at Englewood Hospital in NJ AND she was not alone.
Respectfully,
Richard Skipper

Thank you for posting, RichardSkipper, and for clearing up the information that was not given to the public. I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember her well from the movie Grease. She was a hoot and I always imagined in real life that she was as sweet and funny!

Cynical Bill, thank you for posting all of those wonderful credits. We're not required to remember any of the actors who pass on. We do so out of love and respect for their craft. The information we received was not late. It was received to the public then put live right away. Since we did not know this actress professionally or personally, we wouldn't have known about her death any sooner. We post because we want to remember and want the fans to remember. We can do without the sarcasm at a time like this, please.

We are not required to post each and every credit of an actor or actress. We realize that she has done far more than we can post. Our point here is to remember her from OLTL.

We hope everyone remembers her as being a lovely woman and actress and for those who knew her in real life, we're sorry for your loss.

Who died and left you reporter of the century? Know your facts before you post. If you cant say anything nice, then shut the hell up.

Treester,

Walk a mile in someone's shoes before you criticize that individual.

Granted, I didn't know that Dody Goodman was in OLTL, and I should have IMDB'd her. But, I took the AP story link from Wikipedia and left it at that.

Chrissi, thanks for that extra bit of info. Your actions further exemplify the need for me to press harder when doing news for "Talkin' Soaps."

This was actually Amy's article. Not mine! I just happened across it during edits and wanted to clear up some things. Amy's a great writer and does this site well. I felt the need to stand up for my assistant and for someone who makes this site a great place to be.

I think it's best if we all just remembered this wonderful actresses life. We'll do well not to savour that negativity! Cheers!
