After Matthew makes Shane feel at home at the mansion, Charlie goes to leave but is stopped by Jared – who admits he knows what Charlie is up to regarding Rex! Charlie retaliates with, “Like father like son,” then listens on as Jared tells Shane that his dad is dead too. Charlie sadly says his goodbyes, telling Jared he hopes to see him again, then leaves. Later, Shane admires the mansion and confides in Matthew his hopes to stay in Llanview for good.
After Nora introduces Cole to Jared, she tells him to make himself at home to which Cole replies, “I appreciate what you’re doing for me, but this will never be my home.” As Nora is being sympathetic, Matthew arrives, tells Nora Bo took him to see Lindsay then says, “She’s better now.” Wanting to talk to Matthew alone, Jared and Cole stay in the living room, as Nora takes Matthew into the foyer, leaving Jared telling Cole, "I know how you feel." After a brief discussion with Matthew, Nora makes a call to her office asking her assistant to pull the Spencer Truman file – and that preparations for his murderer are in order! Later, Cole thanks Nora, Matthew and Jared for being there then heads up to his room.
Later, when Matthew and Bo go to St. Ann’s to wish Lindsay a happy holiday, Bo’s surprised to find RJ has beat him to the punch. After Matthew tells Lindsay he made her a ‘private’ gift, RJ leaves the room and allows Matthew to give Lindsay a DVD of Jen. Touched, Lindsay thanks Matthew as he heads to the car for her card. Just as Lindsay says to Bo, “Alone at last,” RJ reappears wanting his time with Lindsay as well! When Matthew comes back, RJ finally takes a hint and leaves – and Matthew also gives Bo and Lindsay some alone time. Bo then tells Lindsay he’s gotten word she’ll be seeing a judge after New Year’s then promises to be there for her – no matter what.
Back inside, Bo and Clint wonder who Jared is conversing with and if Jared’s visitor knows something about Jared being Asa’s son. As Natalie rants, “Jared can’t be grandpa’s son,” Clint ignores a phone call from Dorian then tries to comfort Natalie. From the other end of the line, at her mansion, Dorian snaps, “How dare he ignore me!” After Clint closes his cell, he, Natalie and Bo drill Nigel about Jared! Suddenly, Matthew appears wanting to know what’s going on to which Bo explains that Jared is Asa’s long lost son.
Downstairs, when Clint joins Matthew and Nora, things appear tense between them. After Nora sees a purse on the couch, thinking it's Sarah’s, a ranch hand appears and explains that it’s Doctor Lord’s – and that she arrived at the ranch last night. Frantic, Clint rushes out of the room and heads upstairs. Once Clint is gone, Matthew calls Nora out – and says, “You and Uncle Clint like each other, huh?”
Back downstairs, as Clint bypasses Nash and Jared arguing about Natalie in the hallway, he warns Nora, “We have a situation here.” However, Clint can’t explain further because Dorian is on his heels screaming, “Nora, you jezebel!” After Nora sends Matthew off, Dorian rants about how Nora threw herself at Clint! However, Clint warns if Dorian doesn’t leave he’ll throw her and David out! Just then, David appears, still in a sheet, causing Clint to grab a shotgun and aim it at David! After Nash quickly goes upstairs to get Natalie and Jessica, the girls come downstairs and manage to settle their father. Once David is gone, with Dorian dismissed closely behind him, Natalie asks Jared to keep an eye on David for her… Back upstairs, when David dodges Jared, he wonders why Jared is following him!
As the words out of Asa’s mouth state, “I leave you exactly nothing,” everyone wonders what Asa has in store for B.E. to which Beaver assures Clint, “Oh, don’t you worry, your daddy had it all figured out – and it’s a dosey!” Restarting the video, Asa says his fortune will stay in trust, and be redispersed at a later date, if his terms are met! “The company will be shared by each and every one of you,” Asa goes on. “What you do will determined its future – and your own!” Asa then explains that although everyone in the family will get equal shares, he’s set it up so no one can ever sell or trade their shares! Asa’s goal states, “If you all get along, the company will grow.” And so will their pocketbooks! On one last note, Asa appears to get choked up and says, “I do love you, every last one of you… goodbye.” It isn’t until the screen goes blank that Matthew cries out, “No… He’s gone…”
When Nigel brings in the champagne, although some think Asa’s plan may very well be a recipe for disaster, Renee objects and adds, “I think it all makes perfect sense.” Though Renee claims it may not always be easy, she says, “Asa’s real legacy is the love in this room.” Everyone lifts their glass to Asa…
Moving on to Sarah, Asa leaves her his record collection then draws everyone’s attention to his boys, who he describes as being his biggest joy, his biggest letdown! After Asa talks about how Clint and Bo used to drive him nuts as children, he admires his sons for their parenting skills then apologizes for not being a good man for them. Nigel brings Clint Asa’s gold spurs – to always keep Clint ahead of the race. After Nigel gives Matthew a gold sheriffs star for Bo, Asa talks about the Stetson he’s leaving Matthew – the one that Bo already gave Matthew.
When Nash and Jessica meet the family downstairs, they wonder where Sarah, Natalie and Jared are? Just then, Sarah appears and they all start reminiscing about Asa. As talk of Asa’s will comes up, everyone wonders what the day will bring seeing as Asa changed his will right before he died. Later, with Natalie still absent from the group, Jessica and Nash joke, wondering if Natalie ‘made it’ with the stable boy – and say anything would be better than having her be with Jared. Just as Sarah starts to defend Jared, Jared appears and lays on the charm thick for Renee and Sarah!
