When Matthew talks amongst everyone, at the Buchanan mansion, about some memories of Asa, Shane asks Rex, "Who's my grandpa?" Rex sarcastically leans toward Roxy and asks the same question! Roxy avoids the question and heads off to make a Thanksgiving concoction!
With everyone gathered in the living room, Nora assures Clint that their catered dinner is on its way then they listen as Bo gives his thanks to Rex, Matthew, Roxy, Cole and Shane. "I want to thank you for helping my friend, Balsom, for finding his way back." Just as Renee begins her thanks, Jared and Natalie appear in the doorway! While Jared apologizes and agrees to leave, with Natalie warning that if Jared goes she goes too, Nora answers the door - and Renee hugs Natalie and tells Jared, "You may not be a Buchanan, but you sure as hell behave like one."
Nora then returns to the living room, with the caterer, who was just in an accident - and is covered with their Thanksgiving diner!
At the Buenos Dias Café, Viki, Gigi, Charlie, Noelle and Moe prepare a Thanksgiving diner, as Marcie and Michael arrive, followed by the Buchanans, the Vegas and their crew, as well as Dorian's family. After Shane introduces his dad, Rex, to Moe and Noelle, Llanview celebrates Thanksgiving as one.
Inside Bo's office, Rex announces to Bo that he's not pressing charges against Brody. Though Rex isn't dismissing what Brody did, he talks about what Brody went through in the war then says, "The guy needs help, not punishment," and Bo agrees. When Nora joins them, she expresses that she can't let Brody off on this and says, "I don't have a choice. Brody has to spend some time behind bars." With a bit more pleading, and a reminder of what John went through to rescue Marty, Bo begs Nora to come up with another solution in regards to Brody's punishment. After a bit, Nora informs them that she pulled some strings then she and Rex head over to the VA Hospital to talk to Brody.
After John tells the mayor to take his badge and shove it, Antonio clears the press out of the station, leaving John to lash out at the mayor some more then announce, "I hereby resign from the Llanview Police Department." As John and the mayor continue their rant, the mayor demands that the charges are reinstated against John! After Bo reminds the mayor of what the press witnessed, where he called John a hero, the mayor is forced to put the matter to rest, for fear of being branded as a 'flip-flopper'!
Inside Bo's office, Bo pleads with John to stay on the force, but John reminds him of what it's cost Marty by him playing by the book! "You're a cop, this job is your life, what're you going to do?" Bo says, but John has no idea and replies, "I can't come back here. I need to be on my own, make my own rules for a while." After the two friends say their goodbyes, John leaves. When Antonio and Nora enter Bo's office, Bo informs, "This force has just lost one of the best cops I've ever known."
After Nora leaves in disgust, Bo appoints Antonio to John's position - Chief of Detectives - and Antonio accepts! Bo then opens his drawer and lays John's badge to rest inside.
In Bo's office, though Todd made a false statement, Bo can't bend the rules for John, to which Antonio suggests they get a statement from Marty - on John's behalf. Just as Bo says he doesn't want to be viewed as using a victim to help a cop, the mayor shows up claiming, "John McBain will have his day in court but not before I have his badge!"
Nora enters Bo's office, as the mayor continues to bash John then demands that she prosecute John to every extent of the law! Nora reminds the mayor that she doesn't answer to him then directs his attention to the reporters questioning John, outside of Bo's office, branding him a hero! When Michael steps in and claims the mayor blocked John from getting the warrant he needed, the mayor interrupts the questioning and says, "John McBain broke the law, and I'm not going to stand for it!" However, after the press hounds the mayor, to save face, the mayor drops all charges on John! The mayor hands John his badge back, wanting to pin it on him himself, leaving Michael thanking the mayor profusely - but John calmly says, "Mayor, take your badge and shove it."
