At St. Ann's, Tess emerges and demands to know why they gave Jessica the wrong baby! Tess goes on to explain that she remembers the baby she gave birth to - and it wasn't the one in the nursery now! Tess leans in close, steals the doctor's keys then makes her way out of the locked room!
Out in the hallway, Tess runs into Brody and says, "What do we have here?" Brody is confused by Jessica's actions! When Dr. Bonner comes out, with an orderly, Tess hits on Brody then leans in and begs him to get her out of there - in order to find her baby! Not wanting to get involved, Brody steps back, and the doctor demands to talk to Bess - who comes out, apologizes to Brody for Tess's actions and asks him to disregard everything Tess said! "Tess gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl," Bess assures them all. Once the doctor summonses Jessica back out, Jessica is confused to see Brody there, who excuses himself, then Jessica follows Dr. Bonner back into his office - and is even more confused by Tess's claim that her baby isn't hers, saying that's exactly what Tess told her mother as well!
Later, when Jessica runs into Brody in the hallway, she apologizes, to which Brody says, "I just wish I could've helped." When the doctor comes out, Jessica wishes Brody luck on his first session.
At St. Ann's, Jessica meets with Dr. Bonner, expresses the damage that Tess has caused her then admits that she still blames Jared and Natalie for Nash's death! Over talk of Bess, Jessica wonders, "Why does she exist?" The doctor suggests asking Bess, to which Jessica agrees to hypnosis! Lying on the couch, the doctor summonses Bess, who comes through, stands up, takes the doctor's glasses, puts them on then says, "What can I do for you, Doctor?" Though the doctor questions why Bess is there, Bess remembers switching the babies then claims that Jessica belongs home with her family - not at St. Ann's. "What are you protecting Jessica from, Bess?" The doctor asks. "What are you so desperate to hide?" Bess calmly tells Dr. Bonner, "No one controls me," but the doctor replies, "I do." Suddenly, Tess comes out demanding, "What are you doing about the fact that they gave Jessica the wrong baby?"
Jessica runs into Brody at St. Ann's, who is having trouble relating to some of the other patients, and gives him some tips. After introductions, Jessica says, "I've been here before… I'm as loony as they come." Brody is shocked, and comments that Jessica looks sane, neat hair and all, which causes Jessica to snap about his misconception of the other 'unkempt' patients. After she apologizes, Brody shares why he's there, leaving Jessica to laugh - explaining her situation, and all of the crimes she's committed! Brody agrees, "You win," and Jessica lets on that she wanted to show him that looks can be deceiving - without trying to minimize his troubles. Later, seated around Thanksgiving diner, Brody says grace and prays they'll get well enough to get their lives back.
Viki and Clint arrive at the hospital to take Jessica to St. Ann's. When Natalie and Jared show up, wanting to help, Jessica doesn't turn them away - and everyone watches as Viki unties Jessica's hands, in order for her to sign her commitment papers. Though Jessica signs, and is ready to head out, Viki reminds her, "You need to say goodbye to your daughters first." Later, holding Bree, Jessica tries to remain strong then cries, "I don't know how I'm going to leave you." As everyone watches, Jessica apologizes to Bree for not being there but promises that once she returns, she's going to be her mommy again.
Now holding her baby, Jessica sobs, "You're so beautiful. I wish your daddy could've seen you. He would've loved you so much." …Never are they aware that Tina is watching them all from the doorway… Jessica then names her baby, Chloe, says a final goodbye to her girls then falls apart in Natalie's comforting arms.
Finally at St. Ann's, Jessica commits herself with hopes of getting her life back!
In her room, Jessica explains to Viki that she has another alter, Bess, the gatekeeper who is there to protect her. Viki understands Jessica's fear, who asks, "Why is Bess here. What else am I avoiding?" Viki explains how the gatekeeper is there to watch over all of her personalities. "If she's anything like Jean… She's there to keep order but has no sense of right and wrong." Viki talks about Tess resurfacing and how she wanted to see the baby. "She kept saying how the baby wasn't hers," Viki cautiously says. Knowing Bess holds the memory of the birth, Jessica believes that Tess just doesn't remember the baby either. Though Jessica wants to see her kids, they are a trigger for Tess - and she can't risk them bringing Tess back out. Viki shows Jessica a picture of her new baby then promises that one day she'll bring her home - but Jessica cries, "I have to go away. I can't go out in the real world, not yet." Jessica decides to have herself committed, in order to deal with Nash's death and become a decent parent to her girls.
Back inside Jessica's room, Jessica smiles at the picture of her baby then closes her eyes in an attempt to sleep away her troubles.
