To pull off such a great thing and bring in his real mother what a horrid sham that you bring them in in this age of time as homophobs. OLTL you have made a real bad move on this one.

what? I don't get what your saying? SHould Fish'd parents jump up and down and say Hip Hip Hooray our son is gay? I mean really come on!! As a parent I won't lie if one of mine came home and told me that, I would be upset. It changes my hopes and dreams for them. but thats in the moment. Once you have some time to put things in perspective it'll be fine. An over reaction when they first find out is fine(and they shouldn't feel ashamed)! That doesn't mean you don't love your child or that you won't be there for them it is just something many parents need a little time to deal with. Kinda like when your 16 year old comes home and says" Mom, Dad, I'M pregnant." It changes things(although i' think I'd rather take the later(or neither) Fish's parents will leave accepting their son and the fact they weren't exited about it when he told them doesn't make them bad people!!

well I would support my kids in anything they would like to do. if my kid told me he was gay. I would be very shocked. and upset also. but they are still mine. and I wouldnt love them any less. I would always support them and be there for them. and learn to accept how they live their life. I wouldnt want them to feel ashamed or that I dont love them.
I feel bad for Fish he is such a great guy. I think he is absoulutly adorable. he is one of my favorites.

I would support my children if one of them would tell me their gay. It is their life and I would have no right to make choices for them in adulthood. I would accept and love them for who they are as a person, not sexual preferance. As a mother, I would be there for them, tell them to be careful with relationships and learn more about protecting themselves, either way-gay or straight.

Parents hopes and dreams for their children, do sometimes go out the window. Every parent wants the best for their child. In the end, he is a grown man, and doesnt need to explain to his parents his sexual preferences. As a parent, once their child has left the nest, it's usually our of our hands. I'm getting sick and tired of all this homophobe crap that goes on in soaps. In the end, what's the big deal, be thankful the child is healthy, well, and respected in the community.

Oh good Grief Now we find that they are racists as well, even if they tried to backtrack on it, it did not work there still was the cloud.

Well this is really going to get interesting, (not that I like this).

the whole point of the fish/his parents storyline is that his parents are uber conservative & that is why he is afraid to come out to them! the whole point with leyla was to really show cris & leyla that fish was not exaggerating about his fears when it comes to his parents... they are very narrow-minded! unfortunately there are many people in the world that have the same reactions as his parents, but are not forced to confront these feelings.

this whole storyline is actually a GREAT move on oltl's part... the show is using a gay cop who covered it by dating an african american girl and is having him explain it to his conservative parents... and they are also adding into the mixture that in his attempt to cover his true sexuality, he got a woman pregnant during a one-night stand. oltl is breaking barriers and is trying to shed light on scenarios that ACTUALLY HAPPEN (bc a lot of the other storylines are things that ONLY happen on soap operas!)

This is the reality of how people/parents respond. We all have our hopes and dreams for our children and when those dreams change - we're shocked. Hopefully we get over it and continue to love and support them.

I find it funny. I watched yesterday and sorry I saw nothing wrong. If my child came to me with the sme news(God forbid but...) i'd be heartbroken! But I would still love and accept my child! That being said there is nothing wrong with those of us who don't look @ it as the best news ever!! But most of us are big enough to accept the change but it is a big thing to have to accept! and there is nothing wrong with that!! Fish' parents will accept him just as they should and their gut response is not shameful! It's normal! and hey @ least they'll get a grandchild the good old fashioned way!!
and how is it they are racist? Im so sick of that word!! IMO it's an excuse! and i've heard it way too much lately!!

I agree with the person that said Fish's parents are uber conservative. This happens a lot with religious families from small towns. There is a family that goes to the same church we do and they "cut off" their daughter after she "came out" and had no contact with her for over 10 yrs. Sad this still happens. As for Layla, consertive parents expect their childs b-g/f to be the same race. They should have kept that comment to themself, or told Fish in private they never expect her to be black. Very rude blurting that in front of her!

PLEASE! I guess OLTL is targeted at 20somethings so they probably don't care - but this soccer mom for one is tuning out until the gay storyline is done with. I always loved OLTL - but this has sent me packing. Way too liberal and conservative-bashing for me.

Let me know when you get back to REAL romance that makes us hausfraus want to watch.

Why would you think that? That is todays world.Any if my child said she was gay, the reaction would probably be the same.It is one thing to say no big deal about someone elses child, but my own is different.

I have children too, and if they came to be and said they were gay, I would love them just as much as the day before! There is nothing wrong with being gay!!!

just don't forget this is a soap story not real life. anything could happen. like in real life my motto is "IT IS WHAT IT IS". Just try to be understanding with LOVE AND RESPECT. Just my thought. (SMILE)
