I was working at the American Airlines Ticket Counter. The day started out like any other workday, needless to say, it didn't end that way. I will never forget the sight of the plane crashing into the twin towers. That was MY plane with MY people on it. Although I knew none of the flight crew, or anyone on the flights, they were still my family.
A lot of people flying that day did not understand what had happened & didn't know why the airline could not get them to their business meeting or to the cruise that they were looking forward to...I am still emotional when 9/11 comes up. 9/11/2010 is my retirement date. My hire date was 9/10/87. A lot of people want to know why 9/11 to retire. I really don't know, out of respect maybe, I really don't know.

I had just begun a second career choice that required 2 years of a college based program...I live on Long Island (previously in Brooklyn) and was driving to school. The news came across the radio station that I had on and I began to shake...I had to pull over and sit on the side of the road for several minutes... several family members worked near the towers, more than several friends/neighbors worked near the towers... tragically,a neighbor across the street was lost in the tower...we could see the smoke from the towers from the college campus...my husband worked in midtown Manhattan which went under complete lockdown...he finally arrived home near midnight...waiting for news was the hardest...watching it over and over on tv was heartbreaking...it was more than one month before planes were allowed over the Long Island airspace...the first plane I heard terrified me,then I cried...NEVER FORGET.....
