I think it is wonderful that more and more (real life gay people) are being cast into roles and are not being discriminated against because of their lifestyle! If the posting on Oliver Fish is true, more power to the casting agents etc. on the soaps!

I totally agree with you!

I totally agree with you both - and would welcome a gay storyline in Llanview. I'll be sure to keep you posted if I hear any official tidbits from the show

Have a great day!
Amy

Yes, it is really cool what they're doing. It's the 21st century after all. Hopefully, if they do a gay guy s/l, it will be a little better than ol' closet case Daniel Colson and his boy toy Mark.

I actually thought that s/l made great tv! I was totally caught off guard by that one! Unfortunately, we lost Jen from Daniel's crazed moments and I always had a soft spot for her. I kinda liked Jen and Christan together and even Jen and Rex.

I liked Jen, too. I was rather sad when she was killed off...

As to the open mindedness of casting, I am more interested in a cast member's acting abilities than his/her sexual preference. While I realize that the news outlets can't seem to resist running the stories on the subject, I just have never felt it was newsworthy. Guess I am an old fuddy duddy, 'cause all I care about is what a character adds to a storyline and how well the actor performs when portraying the character. Never have cared what or whom the actor might be doing on his/her own time.

I'm sorry, I just didn't like how they portrayed gay people in that s/l. Naive Mark and Daniel lying and cheating and murdering did not put gay people in a positive light. I don't know. Just my opinion.

And to MakeMineRare: you make an excellent point. It shouldn't be such breaking news that a gay man was hired for an acting job. Gay men and women are hired for all sorts of jobs, and they don't make the news. You also don't hear reports that OLTL just hired heterosexual actor Brett Claywell to play the role of Kyle Lewis. I mean, does it really matter which way the actors lean?

It doesn't matter what way they lean BUT I think there is still a stigma. Look at what happened to Ellen Degeneres. She came out on her sit-com and she went "out of commission" for a long time because people weren't ready to handle her. I am inspired that gay people are getting jobs.

Okay, so, Auraman, do you watch Ellen's talk show? I love it when Ellen has a song playing and she goes up into the audience and dances with the members of the audience. It always makes me laugh to watch it because the audience is made up of mostly women and the women all seem to have this look on their faces. The look says, "Ellen would SO have me... " Reminds me of the old Star Trek series and what my mother (a Trekkie) used to say about Mr. Spock. My mother always said that all the women in her science fiction club thought THEY could be the one to make Mr. Spock show emotion.

I do watch Ellen but actually like Bonnie Hunt better BUT I digress and this is not actually "1 life" related.

Okay, I think I offended you in some way... I am not quite sure what I wrote that was offensive, but whatever it was, I apologise... Telling me that this bit of the discussion was/is not One Life to Live related, is true, but I didn't bring Ellen into the discussion. You did. I was merely (stupidly thinking you might actually be interested) citing my observations of a portion of Ellen's talk show and how it amused me. And I guess bringing Star Trek into it was extremely wrong. Sorry that I got off topic, although the topic was about open minded casting. Sorry I managed to offend you. I misunderstood your post and thought you were game to reading my opinions.... I thought the message boards were for people's opinions. As usual, I am wrong.
