Soaps.com Mourns Katherine Phillips Hughes…

Wednesday, June 03 2009

(ABC)
Sadly, on May 12, Variety is reporting that “A World Apart” creator Katherine Phillips Hughes passed away as a result of a brief illness in Brentwood, California at the age of sixty-five.

Not only did Katherine create the 1970 soap opera "A World Apart," which aired on ABC from March 30, 1970 to June 25, 1971 and was based on her childhood, having been adopted by an unmarried soap opera writer, she was the daughter of Irna Phillips, who created CBS’ As The World Turns and Guiding Light and was co-creator of NBC’s Days of Our Lives.

Soaps.com wants to take a walk back in time, to remember Katherine, and her creation. Watch the original video clip promo for "A World Apart" below, where actress Susan Sarandon played the main role of Patrice.

In recent years, Katherine had enjoyed having a hand in music and reality television projects.

Soaps.com would like to send our deepest condolences to Katherine’s brother, her family and friends. She definitely left her mark in Daytime and in the hearts of those who knew her.
