Soap Stars Get Vocal About Proposition 8!

For those who are not familiar with Proposition 8, here's a rundown surrounding the controversial initiative measure implemented on the 2008 California General Electoral ballot… If this ends up being passed this would amend the part of California's constitution and implement that there will no longer be a fundamental right for same-sex marriages.

Although we all have our own opinions in the matter, as in any other matter in life, soap stars have gathered to voice their opinions - in the name of public awareness - and to support same-sex marriages in the state of California. Amongst the publicly straight-supporting actors involved include past and present soap stars from As the World Turns', Sara Ramirez (ex-Hannah), and General Hospital's Tyne Daly (ex-Caroline), Sally Kirkland (ex-Brenda) and Carolyn Hennesy (Diane). Other actors taking part in the "Stop The Hate, Vote on 8" campaign include Amy Brenneman, Christine Lahti, Dolores Huerta, Camryn Manheim, Wilson Cruz, Melonie Diaz, Heather Matarazzo and Carolyn Murphy.

I'm going to vote no on Prop. 8. I'm not comfortable with elimanting a right. Also, I don't see the big deal about it.

I agree with you phoenix. Although I do no live in CA, if I did I would also vote no. Being straight, I absolutely see no problems with same sex marriages!! I don't see the big deal either as they are not hurting anyone and just want to be happy. So, I hope this doesn't go through and I commend all of the straight and homosexual actors and actresses that oppose Prop. 8.

Sorry, but homesexuality makes me sick. I was born and raised in Calif.(although I do not live there anymore) and because of Hollywood and San Francisco it has become a leading (if not the leading) state for homos. I had always believed they should be allowed to live and let live but when I read such things as homos trying to get their lifestyle taught as an alternative lifestyle in our schools, children not having a dad but two mothers, I cannot support it. I wish no harm should come to them but I don't want them to force their ways on to our children.

Hey Geezer, although you must be busy right now buring a cross, I hope you get a chance read this. Your so right about the harm to the children. Teaching children to be simple minded and moronic is better. You actually make me sick. I say we should make new Proposition that takes your right away to inflict your thoughtless, ridiculous and hateful opinions on others. You are homophobic and ignorant, please don't blame it on children.

I knew I would get lambasted by people who can't respect someone elses opionion. The only way you can make your point is by villifying and ranting. You know nothing about me. I went to school with and have worked with gays. That didn't stop me from spending time with them. As for your burning cross, I went to school with and have worked with blacks and Hispanics. Some were my very good friends. My wife and I used to have a black couple over to our house quite often when it was considered the "inappropriate thing to do". So screw your burning cross comment. I hardly think that not teaching our children the homosexual lifestyle is going to make them simple minded and moronic (is this your excuse?). The US has been ruined by teaching generations of children no morals, to think that they are not responsible for their actions, and by parents who let their children run their lives instead of the other way around. Don't worry, I'll be off this earth very shortly and will sadly leave it to bigots like you.

Geezer, when you start conversations with "X makes me sick" it is hard to offer respect. I do apologize for the buring cross comment, I was just trying to respond as ridiculously as you sounded.
The same way you are speaking about "homos" ( which is outdated and a derogatory term by the way) is the same way society used to speak and still does about the blacks and hispanics you befriended and had dinner with at your house. In my experience, when someone is not a "bigot" they don't have to talk about all the great things ( like having a black couple over for dinner when it was not considered appropriate? what does that mean?) they think they have done for minorities. You should think of how you would feel if suddenly society was debating about your rights.Rights that other people are entitled to. This is how people who are not considered 'normal'have been treated for years. This treatment comes out of fear and ignorance and it needs to stop. We need to teach our children to try to love one another and that they should be themselves and no one will hate or be sickened by them

Maybe the reason you haven't had to defend yourself is because no one ever accused you of burning crosses. You and I could debate this until we turn blue without ever changing each other's mind. I respect your beliefs, just not the way you demean me and mine. The fact is 6.4 million Calif. voters previously said they were against gay marriages. The Calif. Supreme Court, made up of 4 justices not elected by the people, said they were for it. When Californians vote in Nov. the result will be the same and the justices will have no choice but to follow the will of the majority this time. I wish you well.

Geezer, at one moment in time, a majority of people thought that slavery and segregation were correct also. However time has changed that for the most part. History has proven that just becuase a majority agrees does not make the action correct. I guess from your statement, I can understand that if the majority of people wanted you to jump off a bridge you would go without thinking. Based on what you have said I don't need you to wish me well, I am well. I wish you well becuase I think you need all the well wishes you can get.

I respect all opinions in this matter, so please respect mine. If God approved of same sex marriage then so would I; however, the bible states that homosexuallity is a sin. Just because the secular world approves of something, it doesn't make it right in God's eyes.
