Updated on November 24:
Working without a contract since June, and now at a deadlock in negotiations between itself and the studios, the SAG just announced that they'll take a vote amongst its 120,000 members to authorization a strike. Apparently, after a two-day mediation, neither side could agree how the actors should be paid for any and all Internet distributed work. Though everyone wants a contract that is fair to all, given the struggling economy we have to wonder how many will be willing to walk away from everything at this point. Soaps.com will keep you posted as this story develops.

Although we reported back on May 29, 2008 that the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) and the (AFTRA) (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) reached a
tentative agreement, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) is not taking matters lying down!
The SAG has recently begun campaigning amongst its 44,000 members in an attempt to overpower the ratification of the AFTRA’s primetime deal! In fact, last Friday, June 6, 2008, the SAG stood their ground and voted 13-10, which led to the AFTRA to threaten the Guild with a ‘court’ appearance as punishment for meddling in its internal affairs!
While the two parties continued to hold negotiation meetings, the AFTRA was not pleased to witness the SAG's solidarity rally taking place at the same time, which most took to be an anti-AFTRA rally.
With the contract between the SAG and the AFTRA ending in three weeks, the SAG is shooting for a better contract for all actors involved, which center around areas such as DVDs, new-media pay, product integration and mileage pay.
This won’t appear to affect any of our daytime soaps, but as always, Soaps.com will keep you posted should any new developments come to light! we wish both parties the best and hope that they can reach an agreement soon!
