It has just been announced that the 1966 gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows, will be heading to the big screen!
To be directed by the legendary Tim Burton of Sweeny Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sleepy Hollow and Edward Scissorhands – just to name a few – one can only guess who he’s cast to play the lead part… Johnny Depp!
Originally created by Dan Curtis, Dark Shadows aired as a thirty minute soap on ABC from June 27, 1966 until its cancellation on April 2, 1971 and featured ghosts, werewolves, time travel, witches and all sorts of man made monsters in its storylines. The most notable names connected with the soap are Roger Davis (Jeff Clark), Diana Millay (herself), Marsha Mason (Audrey), Conrad Bain (himself), and John Karlen (Willie Loomis).
So is there a reason why Tim Burton has decided to turn Dark Shadows into a modern day film, one that will now fit nicely among today’s themes and even in daytime considering ABC’s Port Charles and NBC’s
Passions have dabbled along the same storylines. Well, it is no secret that Mr. Burton was a fan of the show, along with superstar Madonna and, yes, Johnny Depp. In fact, Johnny’s favorite character from the soap was Barnabas Collins!
Soaps.com is excited to see one of daytime’s
past soaps come to life again, and we can’t wait to hear more about the upcoming movie! We’ll keep you posted with details and they come. Wouldn’t it be neat if a few daytime stars ended up being cast in the flick as well? Just for fun, which daytime diva would you like to see play oppsite the very sexy Johnny Depp? Post below!
