Aside from being a journalism major at Cornell University, Raymond went on to serve in the Army during WWII where he wrote scripts while assigned in Signal Intelligence. In his later years he was a book editor and story analyst for Warner Brothers, and an English professor then went on to hit daytime by storm with his writing style, as well as some primetime dramas such as Knots Landing and Falcon Crest.
