God Bless The Child

Wednesday, February 13 2008
Rick and Beth have the baby baptized, Alan tries to steal Sarah away, Reva blurts out the truth.

At the church, Reva hands Josh the Valentine's Day card she got from Shayne and then asks him about the baptism for Rick and Beth's baby. Josh is pensive; something is bothering him. He doesn't know how he can stand before God and lie about who the child's father is. Reva reminds him that Rick will be a better father than Alan. Josh still doesn't know how he can choose between his faith and his wife. Reva's sure that he'll know what to do, just like always.

Will and Cassie walk down Main Street. He wants to go to the movies. She reminds him that they aren't on vacation and he shouldn't have packed up all of Josh's things and left them on the street. Will apologizes and hugs her, but says he doesn't like the way Josh and aunt Reva treat her. She sends him off to Daisy, making him promise to behave.

At home, Leah and Harley's boys are making decorations for the baptism. Rick comes in, excited about everything. Lillian runs around, giving Rick a peck before Beth walks in with the baby in her arms. They all crowd around the baby and remark on how she doesn't look anything like Rick. After smirking, Rick walks away to make a call. Lillian takes her daughter aside. Beth worries about why Alan hasn't called her since she left the island. When the phone starts ringing, everyone is still and silent. No one answers. They all think it could be Alan. Rick tells Beth that he understands her feelings for Alan; she can't throw away the history she had with him. He's okay with that though because he knows he'll spend the rest of his life making her and the baby happy. Leah asks them what the baby will be called. Rick wants to name her Bert after his grandmother Bertha. This makes everyone cringe so Leah suggests "Bernadette".

Josh arrives and they tell him the baby's name. When Beth walks away with the baby, Josh tells him he doesn't think he can perform the ceremony. Rick worries that this will send up red flags. "He'll do it," Cassie announces as she walks in. They start talking about how happy Rick and Beth and his family are and how wonderful everything is. Josh repeats that he can't perform the ceremony. Cassie finally points out that he can't perform it anyway; he's supposed to be the Godparent and someone else will be performing the ceremony. Josh is still reluctant to take part.

Jonathan and Lizzie play with Sarah in his room. They haven't heard from Alan either and it makes them worry. Lizzie thinks they may have won this time. When she goes into the bathroom, she screams after seeing a bug. Jonathan runs in to help, leaving Sarah alone. Alan walks through the door and picks her up. Jonathan and Lizzie rush out. He hands the baby back and repeats that he wants a truce. Jonathan doesn't believe him, but Alan asks him to let him earn his trust. He offers them money for Sarah's education but Jonathan turns it down. Lizzie stops him and tells Jonathan to let Alan help and try to make the truce work. Alan tells Jonathan what a good job he's done looking after the baby and then leaves. When Lizzie takes the baby back to the bath, Jonathan walks out and tells Alan that if he comes after his daughter again, he'll snap his neck. Alan points out how easy it was for him to just walk in. He could come back and get her anytime. "Sleep well," he warns as he walks away. Jonathan goes back inside and tells Lizzie what Alan just said. She isn't worried but she's sure they can protect her; they have his family behind them and they can get married to make things look more solid. He shrugs at that and takes Sarah shopping.

As Jonathan pushes the baby carriage along the street, he gets a text message warning him about Alan and asking him to meet Lizzie at the cabin. He rushes back to his room to grab his suitcase. Bill catches him before he can run off and accuses him of betraying Lizzie. Jonathan threatens him and walks away. When he arrives at the cabin, two men grab him. He finds Alan waiting for him, ready to take the bay. They hand her over to him as Jonathan yells. Alan pulls out Jonathan's gun. He tells him that Sarah will have everything she wants and needs. She'll soon forget all about him and he'll change her name to destroy all connections with Reva's family. Jonathan agrees to leave town and the baby but only if Alan doesn't cut Lizzie and Reva out. Alan doesn't believe this promise. He tells Jonathan that he is going to have to call Reva and tell her that he's taken the baby and gone on the run. Lizzie will believe Reva, Alan assumes. Jonathan won't do it, but Alan says that if he doesn't, he'll never get to say goodbye to his daughter. Jonathan calls Reva and tells her that he's already gone. She says she can protect him. But he doesn't think they can get away from Alan. He tells her he's glad she was his mom and hangs up. Sitting down with the baby, he bounces her on his knee and talks about how worried he was about being a father. He used to hate the word "dad" but she has made it his favorite word. He'll love her no matter where he is. He pulls out Tammy's necklace for the baby and makes Alan promise he'll let her keep it. Alan agrees and takes the baby, leaving Jonathan crying.

Bill tracks Lizzie down on Main Street and suggests that Jonathan has run off with Sarah. She assumes he's just trying to make him look bad again. He tells her he saw Jonathan leave with the baby and a suitcase. She tries calling him with no luck. Reva suddenly runs by and tells her that Jonathan has gone back on the run. Lizzie doesn't believe it; Jonathan wouldn't abandon her like this. Bill reminds her that she's not the best judge of character.

Alan returns home and informs Jeremy, the butler, that the staff can all go home and take an extended vacation. Jeremy wonders if everything is alright and Alan assures him that things are great. As soon as the butler is gone, Alan's henchmen brings Sarah in. He cradles her and tells her how much he loves her. Showing her the pictures of his sons on the mantle, he tells her she won't disappoint him like they did. "Of course, you're going to need a mother," he says, picking up Beth's picture. Meanwhile, Lizzie has gone out and spotted Jonathan as he's bound and thrown in the trunk of a car. She runs out and tells the men in the car that her grandfather has just had a heart attack. As they run off to help, she lets Jonathan out. He explains what happened. She says they need to get her mom on their side. Seeing the two men returning, he grabs a tire iron and smashes them in their heads as they run back.

At the church, Reverend Ruthledge has come to perform the ceremony. As he congratulates everyone, Cassie slips away to apologize to her sister. Reva tells her that if it happens again, "it won't be fine." Cassie is called back to the front with Josh for the ceremony. As the reverend begins, he asks Cassie and Josh to make a vow. Grudgingly, Josh goes along with everything. Alan enters the church and watches from a distance as the baby is baptized. Jonathan and Lizzie arrive and Reva runs over to them. Lizzie explains what's happened and Jonathan slips over to Alan, pointing a gun at his head. Alan easily wrestles it away from him, saying that even if he has to go to jail for shooting him, at least he can protect the baby from him. Alan says that he has nothing– no family, no wife, no baby. To stop him from shooting Jonathan, Reva suddenly blurts out the truth— Beth's baby is really his.

Next on Guiding Light:

Alan learns the truth about his baby.

Frank worries about his daughter.

Jonathan promises Lizzie he won't go away.

Lots of action today. Lizzie is awesome by believing in Jonathan and coming to his rescue. One question though, how did she know to go to the Bauer cabin? Did they have a standing agreement to go there if something fishy happened?

OMG, Another great episode today. Lizzie and Jonathan are great, love them both. Too bad he is on for such a short time. Allan finally finds out Beth's baby is his. Now I think its save to say he will leave Jonathan and Lizzie and baby Sarah alone. Now I'm really wondering how Jonathan leaves town again.

OMG I don't believe the writers had REVA do this! Its against her nature to sacrifice a child after all she has done to protect Beth's baby from Alan along with Sara. I am SO ASHAMED of Reva!

No one believes that having found out Beth's baby is his, that Alan will leave Sarah alone...he is a "contol freak" and manipulator. He's have 2 lives to control now. (I LOVE THIS ACTOR - he's awesome to love/hate.)

As for Jonathan, he let Alan get the slip on him once, now 2x in one day and with a gun yet??? LOL I don't think this could happen R/l. NO one is that inept!

I like Lizzie with BILL honestly. He's the old Bill when they are together not the nasty "get even" Bill we have now. Jon will leave the show - I like him - but way too many men in this show and not enough women.

Cassie is an a!s!s! No one is that stupid a mother or wife..The old Cassie had brains and gusto, with this actress they have made the character a complete reverse. I'd love to see the old Cassie back....with the old ways of THAT CASSIE. This actress just doesn't fill the SHOES of the Cassie character.

The old Cassie would have beaten the tar out of Will and he wouldn't NEED professional help!

That thump you just heard was Beth being thrown under the bus.

Hi all,
first time on today. Love the recaps and the comments! I know it's just a soap, but really, are they all that scared of Alan? I mean, he is Sarah's great-grandfather (and really not since PHilip was adopted) so he has no right to Sarah at all and everyone just stands around and lets him take her whenever he wants and Jon runs away for a year so he won't take her. Where's Frank when you need him! I agree I love Jonathon and don't want him to go - I just hope they leave it open for him to return again and not kill him off. Why don't they let him live in San Cristobel and be the ruler since they don't have a king now? Sarah can spend 6 months with him and 6 with Lizzie. (Wasn't Richard his dad? I never knew how that happened, but that makes Sarah the princess too) That way he can come back and forth to the show when it fits his real-life schedule.
Things will get interesting now that baby B is Alan's - and I hope they change that name!

I really hope they find out that nutty Cassie did it. Maybey Josh will open up his eyes and see that she is a lunitic. I am glad Reva let the cat out of the bag. She did it for Sarah,Jonathan and Lizzie.

Another question. Can't anyone get a restraining order against Alan? Are there no lawyers in town? What he is doing is kidnapping, and everyone just looks the other way or cringes, or points a gun at him without shooting. Don't they have a courthouse with judges in it? He is really just an overgrown spoiled brat.

Thank god for updates. Don't need to watch this now.....

I was reading SOD back in December w/ their Best & Worst of 2007 and Josh & Cassie got Worst Couple!! DUH!!!!!!!!!

Ok, first off......Bernadette?????LOL, I'd rather them have named the baby Bonnie than that. Secondly, I just don't get why Reva spilled the beans and threw Rick and Cassie under the bus. Although Reva can be a selfish person when it comes to her own, this has crossed the line. Then again, I wouldn't let my son die just to keep the secret of the sister who stole my husband...
