Chicken Little.

Thursday, August 07 2008
Daisy and Ashlee argue, Grady looks for a way out, stress is getting to Jeffrey.

Ashlee sits at her laptop doing her video blog. She tells the story of Chicken Little. She thinks that she is just like that chicken. That story has taught her more than all the self-help books she's ever read. She wonders what would happen if the sky actually fell... she used to use food to fill up when she felt like she was losing someone. She feels like she's losing Daisy but doesn't know what to do. As she talks about loss, there is a montage of shots: Buzz commiserates with a depressed Natalia; Olivia and Jeffrey try to comfort each other; Daisy wonders what to do; Frank threatens Grady. Her speech ends. "As if anyone is watching..." she grumbles.

In his office, Jeffrey worries with Olivia about their daughter. He says they will help her but they can't do anything about what's happened. Right now, he wants to get justice for Tammy; that's something he can do. He won't sit with her and look at family photographs. She accuses him of being unable to deal with this. "I'm dealing with it," he insists. She thinks avoiding things will just mean more failures and more things for them to not talk about.

At Company, Natalia asks Buzz if she just misses Rafe so much she wants Alan's visions to be true. Buzz misses Jenna. She asks him if he'd want to speak to her. They begin setting up Company for the day. She wonders if Alan is crazy. He wonders if he's not.

At home, Beth calls and Alan reminds him that they need to meet with the lawyer. Buzz and Natalia arrive. She tells them that Alan is with his "followers". Beth offers Buzz beer. Natalia wonders if she thinks she's crazy. Beth ignores this and answers the phone. It's for Natalia. Alan tells her that Gus is worried that Rafe is not safe in Europe and wants him to come home. That makes sense to her but she wonders if he will be safe in Springfield. Alan has to run off and "touch some lives". When she gets off the phone, Beth tells her that Alan had visions in LA but none of it gelled. Natalia still wants to have faith in this. Neither Beth nor Buzz think she should have faith in Alan. Buzz and Natalia offer to look after Peyton while she takes Alan to his lawyer.

Daisy goes to see Ashlee at the station to fill out a job application. They catch up and Daisy admits that she may have to testify against Grady at his trial. She doesn't know if she should hang him or free him. Ashlee is confused; she can't understand why she would lie under oath. Daisy tries to explain but Ashlee begins throwing a fit about how unhealthy all of this is. Daisy accuses her of being obsessed with self-help and health ever since she had her surgery. All that she does is criticize and not help people at all. Daisy feels betrayed after helping her so many times in the past. Ashlee continues to rant at her. Daisy walks out, sure that Ashlee is incapable of actually helping anyone but herself.

Ashlee follows Olivia around Towers before sitting down and offering her pity over Ava. She offers to help her out if she needs it. Olivia tells her that Emma likes her blog and asks her if there is anything "dirty" on it. Ashlee finds it funny that anyone looks at it. Olivia imagines that there must be a lot of lonely people out there who need to connect.

Natalia tends to Peyton and tells her how much she misses her son. She sits in Company. Olivia sits down with her and gives the baby her bottle. She holds the baby and the women sadly talk about their kids. Natalia offers to get the exhausted Olivia some food. Olivia begins to cry. She worries that her daughter may just vanish like Rafe has. Natalia thinks that her son will be coming back and tells her about Alan's vision. Olivia doubts these visions and encourages Natalia to make sure this is more than wishful thinking.

Daisy finds Grady in the park. He confronts her for her chat with his brother. "I got caught because of you," he says. She can say that she cares, but he's shown her that he does. She says that she's isolated herself from her whole family. Frank runs between them and threatens Grady again. He had Daisy's car towed and tells her that he will continue to harass her as long as she's seeing Grady. Grady walks away. Frank tells Daisy he will be driving her to work and have security watch her. She feels like she's in prison. Her mother has run off to Europe with her old boyfriend and left her behind. Frank tells her that she'll have to prove she deserves her car back. As he stalks off, Grady runs back and tells her that he knows which impound lot her car was taken to. He picks her up and they run off.

Jeffrey goes to see Beth. He tells her that this is Alan's last chance to confess. He threatens to drag the trial on and drag her family through the mud. Beth tells him that he can't walk in and start harassing her. "She just wanted to be with the man she was in love with... I'm getting justice for Ava and..." he stops. "Ava?" she asks. He sits at the table and she pours him a drink. She understands why he's upset. He wonders what Gus would say about this mess: Wouldn't he ask Alan to confess? Beth doesn't think Jeffrey can be objective right now; he just wants to make everyone else hurt because he is hurting. He thinks she's trying to blame the victim and walks out, vowing that Alan won't get away with this.

Daisy and Grady sneak into the impound lot. The attendant confronts them and Daisy and Grady quickly outsmart him, spinning him a story to convince him to give her car back. She laughs as they get the car. He tells her they are a good team. She's had to lie so much just to survive in this town, she says. "You'll lie, but not for me," he grimaces. She won't lie in court. She offers him a ride. He walks away. Jeffery walks up to her and threatens to bring her up on perjury charges if she helps Grady get off. He knows he promised Reva he would help her, but all bets are now off and he will throw her in jail. "Don't let your feelings for this guy blind you as to what he has done," he says.

Grady rests in the tree on Alan's lawn. He walks by. Grady leaps down and tells him he's withdrawn his confession and plans on beating the charges. He threatens to sell Alan out just as he did to him. Alan begins telling him about his visions of Gus. He knows what both of them have done but what comes next is out of their hands. Grady would rather try to control the future and tell him what to do. Alan is sure that his dead son will save him. "Will he save me too?" Grady asks. Alan says there's been no indication of that. Grady thinks this is all part of an insanity plea. "If you're the only ace in my pocket I'm screwed," he says. Alan tells him to have faith that they will get what they deserve. Grady hopes not. As he walks away, he thinks of calling Daisy.

Ashlee goes home and does another blog entry about how excited she is. She thinks self-help is great but helping other people is beyond great. If you don't face your problems, they will hound you, she says. If there is a silver lining to the clouds falling, it's that you're not alone, she concludes.
