Are Those Lines in the Script?

Monday, July 21 2008
Josh and Reva watch their wedding be re-enacted, Cassie faces what she thinks she will lose, Josh realizes what he wants.

At Cross Creek, Josh and Reva watch as the film crew re-creates their wedding. Actress Reva is rowed to shore for the ceremony. Josh tells the real Reva that the actress isn't as beautiful as the original. They laugh and wander across the lawn, finding the actress playing Marah. They confuse her by introducing themselves as Josh and Reva. They go over their old vows with the actor playing the clergyman and laugh. They run into the actors playing their parents, complimenting them on their imitations and choking back tears. After toasting with Josh and Reva, the actors break out of character and walk off mumbling. Josh and Reva watch the other actors rehearse and decide to get a drink.

Jeffrey brings Cassie to Cross Creek. He wants to keep his distance and not get involved with the filming. He pushes Cassie over to the set. "Bring food," he jokes to her. She sighs.

As Josh and Reva drink, they tease Billy about the actor playing him. He says he wouldn't miss this for the world. Josh leaves to check on Cassie. Billy is sure this must be hard for Reva. She says it's just dress up for grownups and gives him an Eskimo kiss.

Josh calls Cassie but turns around and finds her standing there. He wasn't sure he would come. "I was," she says. This place is like a Reva theme park, she comments. They speak of how things went at the therapy session. He suggests that they only need to be comfortable with each other again. She warns it will never be like it was before. Their marriage isn't like a movie and it needs to be about who they are now. "Living in the past is not healthy," she reminds him. She walks away to get a drink.

Jeffrey and Cassie drink and talk. He thinks they should leave. She missed the first wedding so she wants to see this one. She wanders off. Reva tracks Jeffrey down. She thought he was allergic to weddings, she jokes, telling him to stay.

Josh and Billy begin arguing until their film father interrupts in character. They laugh.

Jolene catches Reva in tears. Jolene talks to her about getting cold feet. Reva starts to cry and reminds them that this is a movie. On her wedding day she didn't have cold feet; she wasn't nervous or scared. Reva cries as she remembers the wedding day and keeps mixing up herself with her character. "If you love him, you say it, and never stop," Reva repeats. "Are those lines in the script?" Jolene jokes.

Billy tracks down the actor playing him and starts taking apart his performance, criticizing the way he eats his food and the water he drinks. The actor becomes annoyed, telling him he was trained at Julliard and threatening to have him thrown off the set.

The first dance is rehearsed. Cassie watches uncomfortably as Reva and Josh watch the actor dance. Soon, all of the extras start to dance. Josh and Reva join the dancing and Cassie sits down with Jeffrey. She suggests that he do something other than let Reva skip down the aisle with Josh. It hurts him to watch, but he's letting her make a choice. "I can't take it," she says. He doesn't think there is anything to be done. Something will always push those two back together; they just have to face that. She refuses to sit on the sidelines and strides off, stopped by the actress playing her mother. Cassie is overcome and hugs her. "You never knew your momma so why not give me a try?" the actress suggests. Cassie thinks this is weird but begins telling her about her problems with Josh and Reva. Cassie admits that Reva got everything and she got nothing. Her "mother" tells her life is unfair. "Sometimes the part that you want isn't the part you should play," she advises.

As Josh and Reva dance, they remember the details of their wedding. "It's not just a dream. It's real. It's as real as we are," he says, looking into her eyes. As everyone starts to dance to fiddle music, Cassie rushes out and yells that she can't let this go on. She catches herself and thanks them all on the part of The Beacon before running off. Josh follows her. Billy sneaks up and asks Reva if she wants all this back. "I'd be a fool not to," she admits.

The actress playing her mother comforts Cassie. She tells her to get out of her sister's shadow and find somewhere else to stand. Josh interrupts and the actress leaves. "At least it isn't Groundhog Day. I only have to go through this once," Cassie says. He says they can go back to working on their marriage tomorrow. He repeats that he wants them to be together. She needs more than words and vows. She knows that he still isn't over Reva. Living a lie would be worse than all the upset that life causes. "I just feel lost," she says. Having a baby could only make things better if they are constant but... is she really what he wants for the rest of his life? He starts to tell her how he feels when he's called back to the set for his brother.

Billy is arguing with the actor playing him. Josh stops them, yelling at his brother that it's just a movie.

Jolene goes to Reva for help. Reva can't tell her who Reva Shayne is because she doesn't know. Jolene only wants help saying the vows. Meanwhile, Josh helps the actor playing him rehearse his vows. He admits that he found it impossible to use these words; he just had to say what was in his heart instead. Reva did the same. They repeat their vows, the way they said them all those years ago.

Later, Josh spots Reva staring into the water and runs over, afraid she will fall in. They yell at each other. He gets nervous when she's around water. He never knows when she'll disappear in it and swim away. She says it's tempting; the life she loves is gone forever. They walk across the lawn. He tells her that life may not be gone. "I never should have walked away from you," he says. She thinks they're just falling in love over the movie. He says something is broken with Cassie and it may have been wrong from the beginning. They need to stop going in circles. She confesses that she's been waiting for him to say these things. He tells her the movie has only been a reminder of what they could have again. He asks her to come back to him. Before she can answer, they're interrupted by a crew member. He asks them to come back and stand on the spot where they said their vows 20 years ago. They need a shot of it for publicity. Josh and Reva stare at each other as they stand in position. The picture is taken but they remain frozen.
