Bill accidentally poisons Lizzie dog when he tries to get her back, things continue to be awkward between Mallet and Dinah, Remy admits he has feelings for Ava.

At the office, Bill is having a hectic day when he realizes that it's Mother's Day. He hurries downtown to find a gift but everything is closed. Meanwhile, Lizzie wakes up to the sound of her baby sister crying. She rolls over and goes back to sleep as Roxie wanders around her bed. She finally wakes up again to the same sound and gets out of bed. Beth asks her if she can watch her in the morning while she runs errands. Lizzie would love to. Beth preps everything. "This is your Mother's Day present," Lizzie smiles. "Did you get one?" Beth asks carefully. Lizzie didn't expect one. Once Beth leaves, Lizzie just hopes her little sister will be all tired out after crying all night. After getting her to sleep, she sneaks into the hall. Bill runs up to her with flowers and chocolate, waking the baby as he shouts to Lizzie. He's hoping that she's calmed down and is now willing to give him another chance. Mother's Day isn't an easy day for her and she doesn't want to see him. Why isn't he with the mother of his baby? He wants to be with her, he insists. She puts the baby in the car and starts driving.

By the water, Marina chats on the phone to her mother. Remy walks up to her and realizes that it's Mother's Day. "I need your help," he begs. She teases him, suggesting that he's going to have quite a time finding a gift for his mother now. "It's the thought that counts," she jokes. He goes down to Main Street and runs into Ava. She tells him how her mother is doing. He's sure that taking care of herself and her little sister must help her feel better. "Everyone is so worried about this child except its father," she says, telling him she won't be going to her doctor's appointment. He starts to worry.

In a field, Mallet rehearses his speech for the police board while Dinah tries to figure out where the sun will be when he gives it. Matt arrives and reminds her that they were supposed to go over some changes. Mallet excuses himself while she and Matt sit down and go over her plans for a golf course and share some pancakes. She imagines throwing a party for the town and tells him about buying the TV station. Bill can handle Spaulding, but she wanted a creative project for herself. Matt suspects she was trying to stick it to her mother. She explains that's not it at all; she just wants everyone to know that she can look after herself.

Bill calls his sister to see if she's got their mother a gift. He asks her to sign his name to it if she has. She hangs up at this and he notices that the dog has been eating all of the chocolates he bought for Lizzie. Panicking, he grabs the dog and starts to run.

Mallet returns to the police station. He and Marina start arguing about the color coding for the files. They start to flirt and she urges him to get back to work. As he paces outside rehearsing his speech, Bill walks by. Mallet asks him if he can get Dinah to stop going after the Spauldings. He understands that she needs to prove she's still sharp, but she's already done that. Bill shrugs but he just wants to get the dog to poison control. Mallet tells him how he accidentally killed a dog with chocolate and offers to drive him to the vet. When Bill gets there, he runs down the hall with Roxie and begs the vet to take a look immediately.

Marina meets up with Remy. He shows her the gifts he bought and she teases him because the best gift he bought is for Ava. He admits that he really likes her, but he's stuck in the "friend zone" right now. She tells him he's going to have to come up with something more creative if he wants more than that. Meanwhile, Ava finds Lizzie collapsed on a bench at Cedars. She walks away and runs into Remy on the rooftop. She offers him some french fries and teases him when he's shy, asking him if he is getting "gushy because we did the you-know-what". He tries to play it cool and starts talking about her diet. When he brings up Brussel sprouts she begins vomiting off the edge of the building onto people below. He takes her down and outside. She makes a bet with him and sends him off.

Lizzie drives home and her mother meets her there. As Beth takes the baby in, Lizzie finds the flowers and what's left of the chocolates on the lawn. After picking them up, she slumps into bed and starts calling for her dog. Soon, she runs down to the vet clinic and looks in. She confronts Bill for almost killing her dog and talks about how fragile she is and how she's almost died in the past. Her dog is the only person who has ever understood her, she says. Bill offers to buy her a chew toy. "Stop trying to buy us," she says. He takes Lizzie and the dog back to the Bauer house. He tells her how much he misses her. "We're done Bill," she says, telling him that he'll be a good dad and wishing him good luck. Being a parent is something special and it's not a chance he can afford to give up. After he leaves, she tells Roxie that she is her baby and hugs her.

Dinah goes to the salon to get a pedicure. One of the Spaulding stockholders comes in and tells her that Bill postponed the meeting today and isn't exactly inspiring confidence. She goes back to the field to finish setting things up for the speech. Marina arrives and they begin bickering. Soon, the press conference begins and Mallet meanders through his speech while people barely pay attention. Suddenly, Remy streaks through the conference. Marina has to tackle the naked man and Dinah suppresses her rage. Marina takes Remy back to Ava and she hands him back his clothes. Remy explains that he and Ava had a bet and he just won it. As he dresses, she teases him and he suggests that she just wanted to get his clothes off. He urges her to go to her doctor's appointment. She teases him again, asking him if he needs help dressing in the morning. "I really do care about this baby," she admits. Bill suddenly arrives and asks for information about her doctor's appointments; he thinks he should be there for them. Remy grimaces as Bill wishes her a happy Mother's Day. After Bill leaves, Remy shakes his head, "What a guy."

Back in the field, Mallet tells Dinah that the speech didn't go so bad. At least Remy distracted everyone from their boredom. Marina returns to take Mallet back to the station to talk to the commissioner. She tells Dinah it will be "staff only" and they leave Dinah alone in the field. After the meeting, Mallet goes to see Dinah. She tells him that there are reasons behind her actions. He doesn't doubt it and he's proud of her. She starts telling him about her plans for a mini-golf course.
