One Family Out of Separate Lives.

Friday, April 04 2008
Family and friends remember Gus at his funeral, Sam returns to see his sister, Ava tells Bill she's pregnant with his child.

Harley wakes in bed and climbs out, picking up a picture of Gus as she runs the shower. She showers and cries before going downstairs where she finds Daisy making breakfast. She thanks her but walks to the door. "Gus would want you to take care of yourself," Daisy reminds her, suggesting that she eat something. Harley tells her daughter to be the mother today and asks her to look after the boys and Cyrus. She walks out.

Rafe watches as Mallet lowers the flag at the police station. Meanwhile, Buzz brings Alan a cup of coffee while he sits on the porch of the guest house. Rafe walks by and Alan tells him that living in this "rathole" is payment for him never being much of a father to Gus. He tells Rafe that Gus always loved him and he watched his love grow for him since he came to town. He may not have been a good father, but he knows one when he sees one. Rafe says that Gus loved him too. Alan thinks that must be true.

Lizzie and Bill walk by the water. She asks him if he misses being available to all the women in his life. "I'm a one-woman man," he insists, "One woman at a time," she says, admitting that she expects more women in his past to crop up. He takes a lucky penny and throws it in the water before giving her a kiss.

Ava arrives at Cedars to feed her mother. Olivia can't eat knowing that Gus is dead. Ava reminds her mother that she had no choice in this and neither did Gus. She and Emma both need her and so does her baby, she blurts out. Olivia still refuses to eat. Ava goes outside and meets with her father. Jeffrey says that Olivia might be depressed. She explains that she told her mother that she was pregnant to give her a reason to get better. "But you're not," Jeffrey points out.

Ava and Bill meet and he tells her that he's happy for Olivia. She asks him to go to the funeral with her. "I'm going with Lizzie," he says. He points out that she should be happy that her mother is getting a second chance, but she keeps worrying her mother will fight it. He hugs her and she kisses him. He pulls away and tells her that he's with Lizzie now. She knows that they were never serious. He tells her not to be upset. She blurts out that she's pregnant and it's his baby.

Harley meets Natalia at her new house. Natalia admits that she hasn't been able to unpack or even to sleep in the bedroom. Everywhere she looks, she sees Gus. Harley asks her if she wants a funeral. Natalia doesn't want to think about it. Harley tells her that she can't keep Gus from the people who cared about him. They planned a funeral for him already, Harley tells her. She tells Natalia that she can come if she wants to or she can boycott it; she doesn't care. Natalia reminds her that she was his wife. "Don't tell me this is all about Gus," she says as Harley turns her back on her. Natalia goes to Cedars to finish paperwork for the insurance company. As she walks away, the nurse asks her if she needs to see a grief counselor. She shakes her head and wanders into Olivia's room for a moment. Later, her brother spontaneously appears at her bedside. "I don't come to visit you often enough so you rip your heart out to make me hop on plane?" Sam jokes, taking her hand. She barely looks at him.

Daisy brings Rafe a breakfast at his house and asks him to let her go to the funeral with him. He refuses. She reminds him that she loved Gus too. He tells her she can go, but not with him. His mother needs him right now and he has to spend time with her. She repeats that she loves him and wants to be with him. He kisses her and tells her that he's sorry before walking away. He goes inside the house and his mother irons his tie for him.

Cyrus and Harley arrive at the church to go over the funeral arrangements. Cyrus explains that she is Gus' ex-wife. The funeral director says that divorce should never stop you from going first class. Looking at the bill, Cyrus is disturbed that she is spending this much on the service, but Harley insists that this is important. She goes home and puts on her funeral black. Cyrus puts his arms around her and she tells him to go and check on the boys. He takes the boys to the church. Harley arrives and cries on Frank's shoulder. He reminds her that Gus loved her. Alan arrives. "Did you have to—" she starts, but Alan stops her rant to ask her if she chose the flowers or Natalia did. Before they can argue, the bagpipes can be heard and all of the cops in town start to file in wearing their dress uniforms.

Alan tells Natalia that she should be in charge of the service; she's the widow after all. "Gosh, thanks for reminding me," she says, walking away from him. Meanwhile, Lizzie thanks Bill for coming to the funeral with her. Ava arrives and Lizzie starts taunting her. Ava says that she feels bad for Rafe and pointedly comments that she doesn't think any child should go without a father. Elsewhere, Harley finds her daughter watching Natalia and Rafe from a distance. "You hold onto me and I'll hold onto you," Harley offers as Daisy rests her head on her shoulder.

Alexandra arrives and comforts her brother. As she cries, he helps her to a pew and Reverend Ruthledge begins the service. After he says his piece, he lets Harley up to speak. She stutters incoherently about the "tornado that swept through town and turned everybody upside down." Before she becomes too distraught, Alan stops her and helps her down. He takes the pulpit and says that they are all in shock that someone so vibrant could now be out of their lives. "I've lost a lot recently, but I'll never recover from the loss of my son Gus...the son who wanted nothing from me...who was just content being who he was...I envy that. Sometimes people have to be taken away from you before you realize the blessing they were to you and your life. I'm honored to have him as my son," he says. He gets down and Rafe goes up next. "We are his sons: Zach and Jude are just as much his sons as I am," he says. They hold his badge and a flag. "He was a good dad," Rafe says and the boys say they miss him. Mallet goes up next, recalling how much Gus loved the Chicago Cubs and saying that the sounds of the game will always make them all remember him now. All the cops pull on Cubs caps.

Jeffrey says a few words and then Buzz follows, wishing that someone had been there to protect Gus. Frank says that Gus was always late and left a trail of cigarettes wherever he went. "He started out as my brother-in-law, but he ended up as my brother," he states. Lizzie remembers him briefly and then Ava does, remembering him on behalf of his "other family" and thanking him for the gift he gave them. Rafe asks his mother if she wants to say anything. She stares over at Harley and says no.

Harley goes up again and recalls her first meeting with Gus and his "wonderful craziness". She wishes the best for Olivia and says that there are things that she wishes she could change, but she's happy that he got back his son Rafe and knows that Zach and Jude are happy to have a new big brother. She feels so blessed for knowing his love. Natalia stands up and says that, while she was against this, she was wrong. She shouldn't have been wrapped up in her own grief. Hearing them all speak of Gus gives her strength; not a day went by when she didn't love him, her first love and her last. She can't say goodbye anymore and hopes that Gus lives on in the, "one family he has created in so many separate lives." The Reverend finishes with a prayer as everyone files from the church into the rain outside.

Couple of things here. Once again a handerchief day. But where was everybody. No Reva, Josh, Cassie. And no Ashlee. I thought it was kind of shabby good-bye.

3Pups, did Blake say something to Ashlee to make her want gastric by pass surgery? I thought with all of this emotional upheavel, I might have missed it. If she did she's dead meat.

Alan spoke very well today and I like how he helped Harley down from the pulpit.

I can imagine how Natalia must have felt. Finally she meets the man of her dreams (her son's father), marries him, and now she has to bury him. I can understand her being a little selfish. I probably would have felt the
same way - not wanting to share him with the town. Overall, everyone gave nice comments.

Hi 3Puppies, Mom6 (hope the twins are well and growing), Bre, Guy, Aussie, and all. Have a great weekend.

This has been a really sad week for me as it was exactly 2 yrs. ago that I lost my husband (of 50 Yrs), so a lot of this brought back a lot of memories. I really will miss Gus, as he was one of my favorites. I don't think that Harley should have taken over as she did as Natalia should have been in charge of everything.

bre, yes, Blake mentioned to Ashlee about her weight, again. I really resent Blake's attitude about Ashlee's weight. She should mind her own business.

I thought the show today was interesting. Why did Harley take it for granted that she was in charge. Natalie said to wait but not Harley. I thought everyone kind of pushed Nat in the background. Harley was front and center. Where was she before, besides in bed with Cyrus. Alan did an outstanding speech. So did Natalie. I didn't know there would be more scenes with Gus coming up. Hope he likes it at AMC.
Hi: bre, mom6, guy, aussie, GLandWT, and all. Have a great weekend everybody.

Man I hate funerals, that's why I don't want one. Just do whatcha got to do to me, put me in a casket and put me in the ground, no viewing and no funeral. Maybe a party to celebrate having known me and tell old stories and have a good time, oh and a big buffet with all my favorites and a couple kegs of beer. Alan needs to chill out and reflect on his life and see what he can do to make his life better and make him feel better about himself, if he does that then everything else will fall into place. What is Ava doing? Is she a nut or something? I think she is going to fake the pregnancy and try to get Bill away from Lizzie.

I think Cyrus and Harley together is the worst idea ever! I just don't think she truly, truly feels the way he does about her there is no chemistry on her part. Marina looks desperate trying to blackmail him she is so much better than that and better off! Maybe with Mallet?? Dinah had her chance and she screwed up!

I also wondered where Josh, Cassie, and Reva were tpday Whatabout Frank? Gus had been raising Frank's son, and treating him like his own. Frank knew Gus, and I think he should have shown up to Gus's funeral.I thougt Ashlee for sre would have attended. Harley is acting as if she was still Gus's wife. I have symathy for Natalia. Everyone hugged Harley, and not Natalia after the services. Ava told Jeffrey that she is NOT pregnant, so she is lying to Bill. The little witch should be thankful her mother Olivia is livng with Gus's heart, and wake up to th fct that life is short, and stop trying to ruin other's lives. Poor Lizzie will be so upset. Ava is trouble.

Has anyone else noticed the disgsted looks Marina is giving Harley? I think Marina is going to get revenge on both Harley and Cyrus after the funeral and sadness quiets down some. Harley is really taing over in everything. I felt sorry again for Allen today. I hope Dinah gets brought down Allen has been through a lot and losing his son is the worst. Dinah is a thief , just like Cyrus, and needs to learn a lesson, too. I hope little snitty Ava doesn't get too far in trying to make Bill think she is pregnant with his child. She found out she is not pregnant. I want Lizzie to have happiness with Bill.

If there was ever any doubt what a low life cryus is there shouldn't be any longer. He's going to hurt Harley soon and she deserves it for hurting Marina, although she did do Marina a favor in the long run getting him out of her life. I think Marina is going after revenge or either she's trying to break up Harley and cyrus. I would hate to think she'd take him back after all he's done. It'd be nice if she'd lock him up and send him off to the big house.
