Beth Ehlers Set to Leave Guiding Light

Sunday, May 25 2008

Beth Ehlers (CBS)
Following much speculation, official word has come out that Beth Ehlers (Harley Davidson Cooper) will be departing from the cast of Guding Light. Although rumors of her departure began circulating around the time they did for fellow cast member Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus Aitoro), the show persisted in their attempts to renegotiate a contract. Goldin left the series at the beginning of April after failing to reach a deal. Since then, he has gone to ABC soap All My Children. Officials at the show have stated that this departure was done on "amicable" terms.

The forty year old Queens native joined the cast of Guding Light in 1987, originating the role of Harley, once one of Springfield's spunkiest female characters. Ehlers has played that role for most of the past twenty-one years, pairing up with many of the series' most popular men including Philip, Dylan, Rick, Mallet, Gus and Cyrus. In January of 2007, she also had the chance to play series creator Irna Phillips for the show's special 70th anniversary episode. She made several film appearances, including in The Hunger and Hiding Out before working exclusively for TV, bouncing through several series before winding up on GL.

Her last air date is reported to be June the 23rd.

Beth Ehlers has served as one of the show's anchor characters for nearly two decades and will be widely missed by fans. Soaps.com would like to thank her for all of her hard work over the years and for the enormous contribution she has made to the strength of the series. We wish her all the best on her future endeavors!

I loved Harley. Beth Ehlers brought her to life like no one else could. She's the best actress on GL. She can do comedy, drama and everything in between. Great loss for GL. I can't watch it anymore. I can't stand the new format or the new characters. Wishing Beth the best on her new undertaking I'm sure she'll be successful at anything she attempts. She was grand. Maybe I'll tape AMC now instead of GL.

WOW! While she will be severly missed I can't say I blame Beth for leaving GL. I will always be a dedicated CBS soap fan but I must say the writing on GL has gone extremely down hill in the past couple of years. I guess things never change with ABC stealing CBS actors lol. Beth will be truly missed and hopefully they don't recast Harley like they did with Cassie Winslow,no actress can compete with Beth Ehlers!

This is huge loss for GL and the fans. Beth has been a very important part of GL for a very long time and her departure is going to leave a huge hole in the show. I plan on following her to AMC!

Well I dont blame her for leaving. The writers have ruined her character. Harley used to be a strong, independent, and most of all an interesting character. I just really wish that the writera and the powers that be listen to the fans and fix GL before it is DOA.

I don't blame Beth for leaving either. Its funny some of the mags have said that Beth wasn't unhappy with GL. Come on, would you leave a show you had been with for 20 years if you were happy? I saw the writing on the wall as soon as Ricky left. They are really close and I knew it wouldn't be long at all before she left. I will definitely miss Beth being on GL, but I wish her all the luck in the world at AMC. I've actually started to watch AMC since Ricky came on there and I know she will make a great addition to the cast just as he has. And one little side note, I would hate to see Harley recast, but I have no doubt that she will be because the character is very important to the show.

I hope CBS and P&G understand that Ellen Wheeler and the poor writing staff is running GL into the ground. The scripts have been so bad, but BE and the other GL actors have been pros doing what they can. The filming is crap! Someone brought up the idea that Ellen Wheeler cannot be fired, as she would cry sexism. GL won a co-award for 2007--a pity vote for the 70th anniversary of the show. Ellen Wheeler has stated, per TVland.com that she feels like a dictator. She is the first three letters of that word. Get rid of her and bring back Beth Ehlers, Grant Aleksander, and many more of our favs. Save this show before it is to late!!!

Oh! Beth you are diffantly be missed I had no Iedea you were leaving and it makes me very sad when the OLD Cassid left it took me forever to get over it I don't know what Guiding Light is thinking of but It's getting where there is hardly anyone left from the good ole days and I am tired of them changeing all the charaters and you will be missed. A fan from Years.

I diffantly agree that the writers on CBS have changed so much that I don't get upset like I used to if I miss one I have watched Soap Operas all my life and nobody is the same.

I have been watching GL since Beth Ehlers started her role as Harley. I am very sad to see her go. GL is losing their best actors. I think the powers that be need to think about the direction they are taking the show. I cannot imagine any other actor playing Harley. I still cant seem to get used to the new Cassie. I really am beginning to not care whether i miss a few shows anymore. GL will never be the same without Goldin and Beth Ehlers. I am very sad to see what the writers are doing to what was once my favorite soap. Beth you will be missed deeply.
