Iam very sad GL is my favorite soap since I was a young girl. I use to get home from school just in time to watch. Now I'm a stay at home mom and I make sure I'm home in time to watch. My one year old get very happy when he. hear's the song he know's that it time for mommmy's show and we alway's sing the song. CBS will not be the same with out it. If you ask me they could take B and B off now that's a sucky soap every ones sleeping with every one and it just seem's fake. The people on GL are like family it make you feel good to watch it. (Let this be a april fool's joke!)

GL is the only soap opera I have ever watched! I started watching it with my Mom after I would get off the school bus. I'm 31 years old now and have been a loyal viewer for years! CBS really needs to reconsider. Replacing GL with a trashy talk show or a cheesy game show isn't going to work. Guaranteed more viewers will be lost that way. I hope P7G can find another network and a new home for the Light if CBS doesn't change their mind.

I heard about this on my local news station! (Years ago, one of the anchors had a brief appearance on the soap). I'm very sad about this too! I know there are a handful of folks who post daily on this site...I feel bad for them too!

I used to watch this show with my mother when it was a 15 minute segment on TV and Search for Tomorrow was the other 15 minute segment.

The show has been giong down hill for months....sadly I'd rather have seen "As the World Turns" get axed. That show is the pits on all s/l.

Hopefully, the show will mend lives and tie up ends before disappearing in Sept.

I loved "Another World" taken off the air years ago. Where did the actress "Rachel" go? Anyone know?

Good luck to everyone from this show.

What are the options for where it could go? Anyone know?

So it's true just seen it on the news. All I can do now is pray they change their minds.I wonder if the ratings are down because of the time its on because you can't tell me the B&B and the ATWT is watched more then GL. I no when I worked 2nd shiff I had to go to work right before it came on. When I worked 1st I did not get home in time to watch so I had to tape it and watch on sat. I think why the ratings are high on B&B is because people who watch Y&R just still have their TV's on but that's when you get your stuff done around the house or get ready for work. lol

CBS is just crazy GL and Y&R and Oprah oh and wheel of for.... are the only good things that they have on if it was not for those shows I would not even watch CBS and might stop if they take off GL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a sad awful day. I hope and pray that this is some sort of sick April fools joke. I started watching this show with my Mom when I was in 5th grade. Now my daughter watches it with me. It's tradition! How can CBS do this. If ratings are dropping then do something about it, don't take it off the air. Go back to the old style, what ever. JUST DO SOMETHING TO KEEP IT ON THE AIR!

Saddened I am by the news, but not surprised.

The cancellation of Guiding Light is an indication of the current habits and tastes of the viewing public.

Ten years ago, Y&R was top rated with 13 million viewers. This past year, it was top rated with ten million less.

Why the change?

The Internet, DVRs/timeshifting of programs, and the fact that those who watched ten years ago may have since died. The Nielsens look at who is watching at that point in time. And, truth be told, the television audience is dying out.

This was originally your grandmother's soap. She cleaned house while she heard over the TV about how Bert and Ed fought over his alcohol addiction. Your mom watched it in college as Holly tried to escape Roger's grasp. You maybe fast-forward/scanned the boring parts to get to the scenes involving Gus and Harley- perhaps looking at the odd scene with Josh and Reva.

And now, due to budget cuts and unprecedented paradigm shifts, Guiding Light belongs to the ages. And YouTube.

72 years. A Hell of a run. Miss Phillips would be over the moon.
