CBS is punishing the viewers for some of the stupid writers that they hired down through the years. I have watched GL since it was a 15 minute show. A lot of people jumped ship a long time ago with the Reva cloned story and other similar story lines. I came close to giving up on it too, but stayed and am glad I did. I am not anti gay, but the Olivia story line is not what people want to watch. CBC has insisted on these gay story lines(ATWT too) when the viewers tell them over and over that they do not like them. As I said I am not against gays, but I just don't want to watch a gay story line. JUst not interesting! I think they have done a great injustice to the show with the Reva story line. I really like Jeffery, but Josh is Reva's true love. You did a good job over the yrs making them a couple. Better than any romance on any of the soaps and then you come along with this cancer thing(we don't like miracle cancer cure stories either) and the Jeffery thing which seems so permanent. It was stupid that Reva couldn't tell Josh about the cancer and then he ends up with her sister. It was disgusting. Makes you want to jump ship. Right now the story lines are good (except Reva)and could get viewer back with just a little tweeking (a lot for Reva) Isn't there something that can be done to put a halt to this cancellation? I am just sick about it. I hope ATWT is not next, but with the stupid boring story lines they have now days I fear they aren't long for the knife. CBS is so stupid. They cancel soaps for tennis and basketball. How many people watch tennis. VERY few I suspect. Considering the time of the day I can't imagine too many people watch basketball. Aren't the types that watch basketball at work or in school?? Seems to me the problem with GL is more CBS than anything else. When they saw the GL ratings were going down why didn't they find out why and do something about it? They want to push story lines on the majority that we are just not interested in and then wonder about ratings??
I think that with this cancellation I will turn my Tivo off and stop watching soaps. After being a loyal fan for so many many years I think this cancellation and the Bold and Beautiful have made me call it quits. The reason I say the Bold & Beautiful is because of all the soaps I have ever watched it has to be the dumbest bunch of crap I have ever consistently seen. But since their ratings are high I guess people enjoy watching total stupidity. But Ridge always goes back to Brook which is certainly not happening with Reva and Josh. I am really angry about this cancellation as you can tell. I don't blame the viewers that jumped ship. I blame the lam brain writers and CBS. You are a bunch of idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it stinks! bad idea. big deal if it was the longest show. I have just got used to the new actors and actresses. Now,what is the cast going to do now? Ignorant!!!

Once again I am so angry that GL is getting canceled. I think MORE WOMEN SHOULD BE STANDING UP FOR OUR SOAPS. THE NET WORKS ARE ALWAYS THREATENING TO TAKE OFF ONE OF OUR SOAPS! AREN'T WE SICK OF WOMEN GIVING UP OUR STORIES FOR INTERUPTION FOR ANY SPORT GAME THAT IS IN TOURNMENTS OR FOR WHAT EVER REASON THE NETWORK DEEMS FOR INTERUPTIONS. WHY CAN'T GL STAY ON? I DON'T GET THIS!!!!!

This is rediculus. How can they claim they are cancelling GL due to declining ratings? Has anyone at CBS ever watched the show? There are 100's of thousands of we fans all over the world who are heartsick over their harsh decision. Read your own website for pity sake, can't you hear the crys of the people!! Save this show please. I, along with millions of other fans of GL, have been a loyal watcher of the show for many, many, years. Gl is a part of our daily lives, a part we look forward to each and every weekday. CBS is a great disappointment. I will NOT watch CBS network any longer, daytime, prime time or late night. I am a huge fan of the Late Show w/ Dave, but will give it up as will millions of other TV watchers. For many of us, our "shows" are all we have left to looke forward to, especially during the daytime, as so many of us have lost jobs and other securities in our life as of late. What really needs to be done to save the show? Make comment to this e-mail or any other fan's e-mails or letter. We all will do whatever is necessary to save our LIGHT.

I have tried to accept this cancellation with grace and dignity but as it gets closer to September I find that I cannot. I guess I NEED to fight this kicking and screaming, I spent a good 20 minutes crying as I finished watching yesterday's episode, and this ...is just unacceptable. People like me have never been included in the considerations of giant networks who base their decisions on an incredibly inaccurate and frankly damaged and broken ratings system. CBS is severely underestimating the sheer number and strength of the Guiding Light fan base, and overestimating their fan base for the other soaps, I know I am far from alone in only ever having watched any of their other daytime offerings solely for the sake that they were on the same channel and near in time to Guiding Light. If Guiding Light is yanked as planned I am done with CBS period. I am not the only one. I have been watching Guiding Light consistently since I was an infant, I'm nearly 29 years old now and I cannot imagine my life without it. And my grandmother has been since it first aired on the radio when she was little, this made her really upset too, my mother who does not even care for soaps in general, still knows the characters I'm talking about when I tell her some crazy thing that happened on the show. Guiding Light has been there for me in times of dire crisis helping me hold on when there was precious little to keep me going. If CBS wants to spit on my entire life like this, "karma" will return the unfavor. It's just the way the universe works. Undying loyalty to this show since infancy, I've put up with ridiculous preempting (sports I mean come on that's a silly time to put sports on when those time slots have always been geared towards women and housewives who are very likely to avoid watching sports like the plague), I've watched other shows on their channel because they had Guiding Light, I figured some of their other offerings must be decent(nothing there even holds a candle to it) CBS betrays me this way I'm gone, and they can kiss my grits. Guiding Light is an institution and frankly should have landmark status, it's the only soap out there trying new things consistently and working hard to be relevant to real world events consistently. I am continually disgusted by the decline/decay of television with all these over the top reality shows and the way they keep glorifying jack-assery, I'm sick to death of these 15 minutes of fame shows, and the loss of innovative daring wonders like Guiding Light. I haven't had cable for more than a year but I still watch Guiding Light online at every opportunity. It's the only soap opera I've ever bothered to schedule into the DVR. No other soap cares about it's fans the way that they do, no other soap goes out of it's way to do humanitarian services the way GL does. No other soap has even an ounce of the respect I have for Guiding Light, and it's the only soap I've ever considered non-disposable, when I have no time for TV watching and just taking valuable time out of my day for TV watching, it's always made the short list of shows I still watch when I don't have time for TV. Also I'd like to add that some stuff in a comment by Lotgar in this thread bothered me, Lotgar, honey, please I beg you, don't speak for the taste of strangers it's inconsiderate, and TV network executives are impressionable. I happen to really adore the Olivia/ Natalia storyline, it makes me smile, laugh and cry, it makes my day, I can tell by the direction they are taking it that wasn't written to cater to the "gays" or even the ever detrimental marketing department(marketing departments do rain on lots of parades), I'm a writer and it's flat out skillful story telling, if you don't want to watch stuff on gay stuffs in your stories you can just walk out of the room and do something else while it's in that part of the show or fast forward the DVR, or maybe even concentrate on some crafting during the parts you don't care for, I know a lot of LGBT's and for a show that prides itself on being innovative daring and relevant to real world events it would be an injustice to well everybody including themselves to never even touch on the subject, let alone to not go in depth on a very real struggle a vast number of people face in this era, you believe you speak for the majority but, according to what I witness, there really is no such thing as a majority in this world any longer, the world has changed drastically in my lifetime alone (I was a teen when this technology explosion really began, where people suddenly started having easy access to global communication, I'm a writer and also scientist at heart, I have been observing these things with great interest). People on the internet freely dispense their opinions, and hey that's a great freedom, but to claim your opinion is the opinion of people you don't know is discourteous to both them and yourself, and from your comment I gathered that you aren't trying to be that way. No offense intended, I just felt really slighted by some of the generalizations in that comment and my comments on the matter are not solely directed at Lotgar by the way, but to all people online who speak on the behalf of strangers. In my lifetime at the very least one of the major themes of the show has been people facing and attempting to overcome adversity and struggle, about people looking for something to hang on to as the world comes crashing in on them and still managing to be playful and occasionally silly. It's the most human soap I've ever witnessed, but it is a soap and one of the key ingredients of that genre is outrageous ridiculous plot devices (i.e.- things like well half the stuff that Reva goes through, remember the time she was a ghost haunting Annie, that was pretty funny). Oh and I thought it relevant to note neither Olivia nor Natalia is gay, they have been straight all their lives and happened to fall in love with each other, it's very different than realizing "Hey, I'm only attracted to my own gender, I'm tired of fighting it" and deciding to come out about it, very different situation, neither of them are suddenly saying "oh yes I'm realizing I've always kinda been into chicks" or going "ooh hey those other women are very attractive". Now Doris, yeah she is gay, and frankly it's the best possible explanation for her whole freaking demeanor they could have come up with, from a writer's viewpoint I mean, that explains the motivation for every nutball thing I've seen her do in a way that doesn't mess with the continuity too hard. Guiding Light does better with continuity than most prime-time weekly shows I've seen, even despite super-aging the young ones. Is it just me or is Daisy actually being played as younger than her character actually is? She's supposed to be like 19 or 20 but I dimly recall her being born more than 3 years before my 18 year old sister, if so that's a rarity in soaps....and how old is Dinah being played as because I could have sworn her character was born when I was a little kid, but they make her out to be older than 25, possibly even older than me... my brain hurts, I digress...I've been told I think too much....

oh forgot to mention that as someone who has a cousin diagnosed with an extremely terminal form of cancer that has an extra low survival rate, especially from the advanced rate it was at when finally diagnosed properly, this cousin is one of my favorite people in the entire world, and is miraculously not only surviving it but finding happiness for the first time in her entire short brutal life and getting married next year, some people do appreciate miracle cancer cure stories very much. Cancer runs heavy in my family on both sides and my chances of getting cancer are through the roof.Wish a miracle cure had found my paternal grand-mother when I was 15, so it's a nice relief when it happens in fiction. Though I do gotta say it WAS very ridiculous the way Reva never showed her cancer symptoms much at all, that was just some ball dropping, but Guiding Light handles these over the top stories better than any other soap out there. Also forgot to mention Lotgar did have a lot of really good points in that comment, for example yeah I don't know a single person who watches tennis and I know a lot of people, Josh ending up with Cassie was just wrong on an epic scale and CBS is being really stupid in this matter. Been thinking of creating my own soap opera, maybe like animated for You Tube or audio podcast for maybe two years now, guess I will have to just go ahead and do that because no other soap will be able to fill the empty spot Guiding Light's disappearing from my life will leave, but I damn well will have closure. After that comment I left earlier today I went and signed up for cbs.com so I can start doing what I can over there to help show support for Guiding Light, I added Guiding Light awhile back on Facebook. While I was registering there I remembered that I can't ever completely escape CBS because they have done more for making full TV episodes available and viewable online than any other network and their hands are dipped into far too many of the places I go to watch TV, because cable is too expensive for my fiance and I, they do more to support that cause of making TV available online for people like me who can't afford the luxury of cable and find the internet a necessary resource. So my plan to abandon CBS will not be possible. However I did use their feedback form that they swear they read every message even though they can't respond to all of them personally, to let them know exactly what they are throwing away by dropping guiding light to let them know just how much outcries I come across online and that no one can hold a grudge like a woman who's favorite soap has been canceled and just how much I see women claiming that they are ready to just walk away over this, I marked the feedback as a Guiding Light request and in the message I made two requests, I begged that they either not go through with their plans to drop the show or make a real effort to help Guiding Light find a quality new home in honor of all the lifers who have watched that show for most of their life and planned to continue doing so until they left this world. I told them that Guiding Light should have cancellation immunity like buildings that people want to tear down that get landmark status. I also basically explained how I see this playing out, it having a domino effect that basically decimates daytime television as a whole I was pretty clear. And Lotgar I'm sorry but I read in the grocery store awhile ago that As the World Turns had been given a timeframe to improve their ratings or they will not be renewed, ATWT genuinely is next on the chopping block. Then will go Young and the Restless, Nikki is apparently being written off the show because CBS cannot come to a resolution with Melody Scott Thomas on her contract renewal and there will be a lot of fans walking away because of that ridiculousness. Bold and the Beautiful will be the last soap standing on CBS for two reasons a large chunk of that shows viewers who love it and do watch it really lapping it up are generally those same people who tune in like sheep to all of those 15 minutes of fame type shows even though only a handful of them don't make your brain feel like it's leaking out of your ears, and their ratings are severely over-estimated by the sheer number of viewers who watch only CBS soaps leave it on running in the background after Young and the Restless and while they're waiting for As the World Turns and Guiding Light, like I used to do. I watched an episode of As the World Turns and Young and the Restless both recently I don't watch them much and haven't for years and they were just so maudlin and melodramatic in comparison that I remembered exactly why I stopped watching them more than semi-randomly, Bold and the Beautiful can't keep me occupied for more than 5 minutes, I only occasionally check in on other soaps at random, out of curiosity to see if anyone else is even trying to keep up with the scope and depth Guiding Light and humor aspires to, and consistently achieves. But if they cut off the head the rest will begin to topple like the house of cards it really is. CBS is clearly unaware of just how much the ratings of the rest of their daytime line-up and possible future line ups are very tied into the people who loyally watch Guiding Light. I ask the rest of you to please show up on other GL fan forums and really pour your hearts out especially on CBS.com, I ask you to find the feedback form and do as I went and did request that they either drop their plans to cancel the show or help find it a quality new home tell them that cbs.com user Orrina sent you so that they can see the depth of what I'm organizing so that hey know I heard your anger and sadness and will go to the depths of Hell (I've been there and Hell has nothing on me) to advocate this matter in the short time we have left, now that the shock has worn off of me. As hot temper said in May "MORE WOMEN SHOULD BE STANDING UP FOR OUR SOAPS" I couldn't agree more, we are a force to reckon with, vast in number and very sick of being taken for granted. and as luvGL suggests "We all will do whatever is necessary to save our LIGHT" well let's show them how powerful we really are, that we are the lifeblood of daytime TV, and we shouldn't be spit on like this, that we matter just as much as those people who watch the boring sports (sports are fun to play but boring to watch), we are smart and savvy no matter how much our typing may suck, we are the ones who do the grocery shopping, we are the ones who have the final say in what gets bought for our kids, and we are the ones who our significant others look to when making their own purchasing choices, not that my kids have been conceived etc, but you ladies get my point, our opinions matter more than every last advertising dollar spent on every network that ever hosted a soap opera combined. Well I say they ought to know this, the world should be made aware of this.... treating soaps like the are just TV shows when the entire reason for their existence is to help the homemakers/ housewives and other various women who have access to TV's during the daytime programming make it through their under appreciated genuinely hard day with less stress freak outs.
