If the government can bail out the Banks, auto industry, etc. why can't they save my Guiding Light!

I am just devastated that Guiding Light is going off the air. I have been watching this show for 31 years! I feel like I am losing my family! I also have been hearing so many rumors. I hear that NBC is going to pick up the show, and that it's only going to be a half hour. That it might stay on t.v. You just don't know what to believe. Either it goes off or don't give us false hope and say it's going to another channel. Someone should pay for all of us big fans to go and meet all the cast of Guiding Light to give them all a hug and bid them farewell. Yup, they should pay for all our airfare and hotel room!!! That's the least they can do for us! I record the show on my DVR because I can't watch it because I am at work. I watch it while I'm working out. Let's just say it is so heartbreaking to receive this news. I hope they will bring Harley back for a little bit before they end in September. Good luck everyone!

I feel that guiding light should not be taken off. So many good shows are taken off the aire and this is one of them. Is there a way that we can protest online to keep show on.

I joined Soaps.com just now so I could post here about Guiding Light. Guiding Light is the only soap I watch because it is the only one worth watching. The writing comes and goes, but the acting is always excellent, and the writing always comes back.

I am 39 and have watched Guiding Light faithfully throughout high school, college, jobs, and marriage. Losing Guiding Light affects me on such a personal level that I don't even want to express it on the internet. Those characters are my family.

It's obvious from the thousands of signatures on the petition that I am not alone in my feelings about Guiding Light. I don't think the ratings are at all accurate.

And I do think that all the calling, writing, and signing of petitions can help either save GL at CBS or get it onto another network--google "petition site guiding light" and you will get there.

Google "petition site Guiding Light" and you will get to the biggest petition, I mean, so you can sign it if you want to. It's very simple to do. There are also Guiding Light facebook pages--the "Guiding Light" facebook page has over 3100 members and the new "SAVE GUIDING LIGHT" facebook page has over 1000 members already. They are both easy to join.

I have watched different soaps for the past 48 years of my life. Many have come and gone and to be quite honest, many I have walked away from. My Mother started me off when I was still in the crib watching "As The World Turns" and "The Guiding Light". When I got to college I remained a loyal fan of "Guiding Light" but Luke and Laura had also won my heart. Soon there after, it was Erica and Jackson and from there.. the rape of Marty Seybrook. ALWAYS remaining loyal to "The Guiding Light" via my trusty video recorder.

However; a few years back I finally gave up after they lost Cassie to GH, the whole Edmond, Cassie and King Richard came to an end and some ridiculous rendition of it was brought to us as if we were all idiots. Harly and Gus, Jonathan (Best actor ever to grace this show), Reva, Josh, Billy, Allen, Phillip, Rick, our beloved Ross (now on OLTL), Not only are many of the great actors who made this show what it once was- gone, but the ones that stayed are no longer the great "characters" they once were.

My Mother called me last month to tell me Phillip was back with Mindy and I needed to watch it because the "4 Musketeers" were back and "cute as ever." So, I started Tevoing GH so I too could see our wonderful Phillip again. You can only imagine my anger when I saw this icon of a show for the first time in 5 years. Gone are the days of dreaming of a life like the Bauer's 4th of July BBQ, Spaldings beautiful mansion, and the Lewis's yachts, cabins and gorgeous homes. They are now catering to the look of "Trailer Trash". And don't get me wrong, I have enough beloved Trailer Trash victims in my own family but I don't want to tune in every day to watch that. I saw Buz sit down in his kitchen and drink a beer and have a smoke with his granddaughter while a can of Pringles behind her just sat there on an old rundown shelf within every shot they took of her. And since when do the "elite" such as Alan Spalding have spiral (small) stair cases to some SMALL office? TON'S of Outside shots to homes that look like they belonged in the projects. What are the writers over at GL THINKING??? I could not stand to watch this show for an entire week. And had it not been for Grant Aleksander coming back- I wouldn't have watched it the 4 days I did mange to stand it.

People don't want to watch the lives of the same people they see every day at work or out their windows at home. They want to keep up with the lives of the Chandlers, Kain's, Cortland's, Kraimer's, Buchanon's, Quartermain's, Bradys or even the DiMera's because they have lives WORTH watching!!! Yes, we always want to see the Harley's of the world climb that latter to become one of the mighty "Spaldings" of the world...BUT.... we tune in to see how the OTHER side lives. NOT how our neighbors live or how WE live.

This was just an abomination of this show. They might as well have pulled the plug on it when they started down this path because I knew it was only a matter of time and I told my mother those same words when she asked if I had watched it again. Little did I know it would only be a few weeks after I swore I would not put myself thru the torture of watching GL again as long as they kept that format. (Even though I am still a BIG Phillip and Rick fan and would have loved to come home with them again.)

It's a pity,...because it doesn't take a genius to know what the fans of Guiding Light want and what would bring them back.

This is the worst thing ever.. If CBS does not change there minds. I may quit watching CBS altogether. How can they do such a thing to so many people. Its not like its only been on a few years.....

This is really sad news it seems as if I just received news of a close family member dying. I hope they change their m ind

It IS very sad to hear this! I've been a fan for about 30 years. Unfortunately I don't get to watch it like I used to. They have some great actors on that show. Two of my favorite Kim Zimmer & Robert Newman!!! THEY will certainly be missed and I hope they find themselves (and the others as well) on another established soap.....any of the ABC's would be good for Kim ( AMC w/Erica, OLTL w/Dorian, GH w/either Tracy or Helena if she stays on!)

Do you think if many of us protest this they will reconsider?????
