Guiding Light - NEWS ROOM

Tina Sloan (Lillian Raines) is celebrating her 25th anniversary with Guiding Light this month. She joined the show in May of 1983 after appearing on the soaps Somerset, Search for Tomorrow and Another World over the span of nearly a decade. When she arrived in Springfield, Lillian was having a turbulent time raising her daughter, Beth, and dealing with the brutality of her husband, Bradley. When that marriage collapsed in chaos, she sought comfort with Detective Jeff Saunders, the first of several affairs over the years which would include Hawk Shayne, Ed Bauer and Buzz Cooper. Although she has always been pulled into scandals around town and had a near fatal battle with cancer, she has served as a cornerstone of love and support for both her daughter and granddaughter in their troubled lives.

In addition to her history in daytime, Sloan has appeared in several Woody Allen films (Celebrity and The Curse of the Jade Scorpion) as well as Hollywood films like Changing Lanes and The Guru. In her time away from acting, she has performed such impressive feats as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and the Annapurna Refuge in Nepal. These adventures and other episodes in her life have provided her with inspiration for the short stories which she likes to share on her website.

In light of Tina's history with the show, Beth Chamberlin, who has been portraying her daughter on air since 1989, offered these words: "To say that Tina is the best TV mom anyone could ask for, doesn't begin to touch just how much she has meant to me over the years. She has protected me, mentored me, inspired me and prodded me (I occasionally need this). By her example, she has taught me to be a better actress, friend, and co-worker. She is gracious, elegant and vivacious. I consider it one of the great good fortunes of my life to have been put into her beautiful orbit.”
