Back at the station, Bill tells Lizzie that James must be a chip off the old block. The cop comes in and says that James confessed to everything. Lizzie goes down to the cells to see her brother. She'd like to say something to put him in his place, but she can't think of anything. "That's because you don't know anything about me," he says. She lays into him but he doesn't see why he should care about hurting her, although that wasn't his intention. He just wanted out of the family. She understands, but she doesn't forgive him.
Beth goes down to the cells to see her son. He assumes that his father is out celebrating. When she goes outside, she runs into Phillip and begins ranting at him for putting their son in jail. Phillip wouldn't let his son turn into Alan.
James tells Daisy that what his father's doing for him is no big deal. After he hangs up on her, Phillip and Beth come in and tell him to get ready for his sister's party. He goes up to dress and Phillip tells Beth she doesn't understand how severe the situation is. Alan eavesdrops as Phillip explains that James seems to be trying to push him to sacrifice himself just to prove that he loves him. He's sure that something is seriously broken in their son and he doesn't know how to reach him.
As James flops on his bed, Alan walks in and asks him about Phillip's 'glorious sacrifice'. James admits that he's grateful since he can now start his new fund. He asks Alan if he's interested and grabs his cigar from him. He sits in the dining room and lights up. A business call comes in. As he talks money, Phillip stands in the doorway and eavesdrops. James tries to cover when his father catches him. "You do know that I love you, right?" Phillip asks. "Yep," James says, ducking out of the room.
Alan goes downstairs and offers to escort Beth to the party. She worries about James. Alan tells her that her son is smart and they need to stop underestimating him. After Alan leaves, Beth asks Phillip to leave with her. He's staying behind to talk to the SEC. James comes down the stairs and takes his mother to the party. Phillip makes the call.
James tells his mother that his father may be a stand up guy after all. He wanders over to Daisy and begins teasing her. Phillip comes to the front to toast to his daughter's engagement. Seeing the couple makes him feel young and hopeful. Everyone toasts and Lizzie thanks her father. Bill wants to announce that they are getting married as soon as Doris arrives. Before he can, the authorities come in and arrest him for securities fraud. Phillip stands up and tells them that the man they are looking for is actually his son, James.
At Towers, Phillip confronts his son as he talks to an investor. After sending the investor off, Phillip asks his son how he can jump into another disaster immediately after he's been bailed out. Daisy tries defending James. His father confronts them about the fake ID and tells Daisy to leave. When she's gone, he lays into his son for his lousy decisions and asks him if he'll let his mother go to jail for him next time.
Phillip takes his son outside and tells him that he doesn't want them adding to the misery of the Coopers. James just wants out of the family. His father thinks that he's going about it all wrong. Nonetheless, he will still be going to jail for him. James thinks his father owes him. Phillip says this should make them even. "Maybe," James shrugs. He promises to give up his scheme and thanks him again, although he makes it clear that this doesn't fix everything.
Rafe shows up at the mansion looking for Alan. He bumps into James who tries making small talk. James tells him that their grandfather is in the market for a new best friend. Rafe's uncomfortable. James wants him to stick around and tell him about Daisy. She calls and James tells her that he's hanging out with Rafe. The cousins discuss Rafe's mother and he tells James that his mother doesn't understand that people change and she needs to get a life. "Zoolander?" James asks.
Daisy walks home and finds James sitting on her doorstep. He needs a new ID, one without his name on it. He's starting a new life and a new fund. They sit down and he explains what his father is doing. She thinks he's being very 'Spauldingish' about this. He wants his new name to be 'Robin Hood' and asks her to be his partner. She turns him down, pointing out that she doesn't have a father who would go to jail for her. He talks her around. She makes his new ID but thinks this is a terrible idea. He gets a call and then tells her to get changed and meet him at Towers in an hour.
